Title: One play. Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on May 28, 2019, 12:14:26 pm Bill Buckner’s passing got me thinking. He played for 22 seasons, but his entire carrier is remembered for one play. There are others like him.....
David Tyree - helmet catch Mark Sanchez - butt fumble Who else? Title: Re: One play. Post by: stinkfish on May 28, 2019, 01:00:21 pm Your boy Brady and the Tuck Rule
Title: Re: One play. Post by: Sunstroke on May 28, 2019, 01:01:59 pm As a 49ers fan... Dwight Clark and "The Catch" Title: Re: One play. Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on May 28, 2019, 01:26:33 pm Your boy Brady and the Tuck Rule Not even close, and not in the spirit of the other three. If you are going to pick one thing Brady is known for it would be having more rings than any other player. That would be even more egregious than listing Marino - 2 ints in SB XIX. (Who is often identified for not having a ring rather than his accomplishments, but I didn’t list him, because it is not a single identifier like with the others) Title: Re: One play. Post by: Tenshot13 on May 28, 2019, 01:27:57 pm ^If I'm picking one thing Brady is known for, it's a toss up between the tuck rule, deflating footballs and leaving his pregnant girlfriend.
Title: Re: One play. Post by: Tenshot13 on May 28, 2019, 01:30:01 pm Jim Marshall
Had the record before Favre broke it of most consecutive starts, yet is mostly remembered for the wrong way fumble return. Title: Re: One play. Post by: BuccaneerBrad on May 28, 2019, 01:36:41 pm Franco Harris- Immaculate Reception
Diego Maradona- Hand of God Goal Ron Artest- Malice at The Palace (not really a play but that is what he'll be known for) Jameis Winston- Stealing Crab Legs (see above) Title: Re: One play. Post by: Tenshot13 on May 28, 2019, 01:59:13 pm Jameis Winston- Stealing Crab Legs (see above) ...and raping women ...and eating dubyas ...and grabbing Uber drivers in the 'P' Title: Re: One play. Post by: Phishfan on May 28, 2019, 02:09:02 pm Zinedine Zidane headbutting an Italian player during the 2006 World Cup
Title: Re: One play. Post by: Pappy13 on May 28, 2019, 02:23:17 pm Leon Lett and the "blocked FG recovery" in the snow.
Lett actually had 2 plays, but his fumble had no consequence on the outcome of the SuperBowl so I tend to forget about that one. Title: Re: One play. Post by: Tenshot13 on May 28, 2019, 02:40:07 pm Yeah, I remember the blocked FG one against the Dolphins, and Don Bebe stripping the football at the goal line. Other than those two plays, he was a stellar player.

Title: Re: One play. Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on May 28, 2019, 03:40:36 pm Too early to know for certain but.....
Nickell Robey-Coleman - no flag. Dee Ford - off sides And it is entirely possible that in 30 years the only thing anyone know about Gronk is the dent in the Patriots 6th trophy. Title: Re: One play. Post by: BuccaneerBrad on May 28, 2019, 05:10:56 pm Tiger Woods- Wrapping his car around a fire hydrant after being chased by his scorned spouse
Payne Stewart- Ghost plane Randall Hill- I shot the sheriff Mike Tyson- Ear bite Title: Re: One play. Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on May 28, 2019, 05:55:38 pm Some of you are missing the spirit of this.
Jim Marshal is perfect. That play is what everyone remembers about him. But do word association for Tiger Woods and only an insignificant fraction would bring up the car crash. Title: Re: One play. Post by: stinkfish on May 28, 2019, 06:30:58 pm Ted Williams-HR final at bat
Babe Ruth- pointing to where he was going to hit an HR John Havlicek- Stole the ball Title: Re: One play. Post by: masterfins on May 29, 2019, 07:30:17 pm Bucky Dent

Post by: Tenshot13 on May 30, 2019, 01:05:46 pm Robin Ventura was a pretty good ball player, but people only remember the ass whoopin' he took from Nolan Ryan.
Title: Re: One play. Post by: Pappy13 on May 30, 2019, 02:47:08 pm Robin Ventura was a pretty good ball player, but people only remember the ass whoopin' he took from Nolan Ryan. I remember that. I'm a Chicago White Sox fan and really loved Robin Ventura. Was a great player and also a great guy. Even that play was not really his idea. There was a fued brewing between the White Sox and Rangers and apparently the White Sox got together and they all agreed that if one of them got struck with a pitch they were going to charge the mound no matter what. Well the next day sure enough Ventura was struck with a pitch and charged the mound even though it was clear that he really didn't want to. Apparently no one told Nolan Ryan that Venture really didn't want to scrap and just whooped him. Poor Robin. He didn't even want to be out there and was getting the crap beat out of him by old man Nolan Ryan. LOLTitle: Re: One play. Post by: Phishfan on May 30, 2019, 03:17:56 pm But do word association for Tiger Woods and only an insignificant fraction would bring up the car crash. Not here in Central Florida. It was a defining moment. Title: Re: One play. Post by: Phishfan on May 30, 2019, 03:22:01 pm Until just now I never knew who Ryan whipped That has been a Ryan moment every time I have discussed it with anyone
Title: Re: One play. Post by: Tenshot13 on May 30, 2019, 03:45:26 pm ^but not his defining moment. Robin Ventura's defining moment is getting his ass beat lol.
Title: Re: One play. Post by: BuccaneerBrad on May 30, 2019, 05:41:11 pm How about George Brett with the pine tar incident?
Title: Re: One play. Post by: Phishfan on May 30, 2019, 09:56:07 pm ^but not his defining moment. Robin Ventura's defining moment is getting his ass beat lol. It is one of the first things anyone brings up. It definitely defined him. How could the guy we didn't even know be defined by it? Title: Re: One play. Post by: Tenshot13 on May 31, 2019, 07:44:22 am It is one of the first things anyone brings up. It definitely defined him. How could the guy we didn't even know be defined by it? The spirit of this thread is one play, or I'd even say one incident. Nolan Ryan is regarded as the best pitcher of all time, has the most strikeouts all time and beat Robin Ventura's ass once. Robin Ventura is known for one thing, getting his ass beat by Nolan Ryan. Title: Re: One play. Post by: masterfins on May 31, 2019, 01:45:24 pm How about George Brett with the pine tar incident? Perhaps, although he is a HOFer so there is more to his career. But, when I think of Brett I think of three things: the pine tar incident, his quest for .400 batting average in 1980, and those ugly powder blue uniforms the Royals wore in those days. |
