Title: What Might Have Been
Post by: Dolphster on December 17, 2019, 07:29:29 am
As I watched the amazing Drew Brees break Manning's TD record last night, I thought back to 2006.  Thanks Nick Saban for  Daunte freaking Culpepper instead of the NFL's leading TD passer of all time.   Of course the argument could be made that Drew Brees might not have been the legend that he is if he had not been paired up with Sean Payton.  But he still would have been a hell of a lot better than anything we have had since 2006.

Drew Brees is the greatest QB of all time

Total TD passes thrown.  (because the playoffs matter)

1   Tom Brady   611
2   Peyton Manning   579
3   Drew Brees   574
4   Brett Favre   552
5   Dan Marino   452

No one cares about  that stat, Brees is the all time leader.  Also, he isn't a dirty cheater.

Nope.

I would say that the stat with playoffs included matters more.

I would say putting an asterisk next to it negates the accomplishment.  Is Barry Bonds the best baseball player of all time?

Brees didn't start off too well in San Diego and is why they drafted Phillip Rivers. Just like Tannehill ... no guarantees he would have played well in Miami with all of our issues. The best thing to happen to Brees was us passing on him and him to land in New Orleans.

You beat me to it.

However, for Marino remember he played in the pre 2004 NFL, where passing was much more difficult.

Also, for Brees, he has been the polar opposite of Brady in terms of breaks in the playoffs

1) 2011, the heartbreak against SF
2) 2013, Colston making one of the stupidest decisions by a receiver in NFL history
3) 2017, the Miracle
4) 2018, the bad call.
