Title: WWE resumes live shows as ‘essential business’ in Florida
Post by: CF DolFan on April 14, 2020, 12:23:53 pm
Just curious how you guys feel about this? Personally ... I don't really care but then again I'm working with and around dozens of people a day so I don't think I have the same mentality as people who are staying home every day.

How is education, libraries and dentists considered non-essential, but WWE is considered essential?

I don't really care, because it's such a minor number or people.

It's definitely not essential, so that part of it is dumb.

Of the essential business that are not really essential (gun stores, florists, etc).   ..the only one that has really bothered me is churches.  That seems specifically not necessary to meet in person.  It's also large gatherings.  Just have it online.

Barber shops need to be deemed essential soon...

Anything where you can limit the interactions between people, I'm OK with.  So, barbershops would be OK for me.  ...because you could just let one person at a time.  But gathering-stuff I'm more concerned about: church, bars, festivals, casinos, etc.

I do kind of wish that all of the world's televangelists ("send me money, God will love ya for it!")would gather together in a church somewhere and hold a prayer vigil and continuous group hug until the virus has passed...

If your dumb enough by all means, less traffic for me down the road.

Sending thoughts and prayers.

At a barbershop you can’t stay 6 feet away.  The barber is literally inches away and breathing on the customer.

OTOH, churches, restaurants, and bars in which you lower the maximum occupancies to 40% would involve less close interactions.

I pass a barbershop every night that has the open sign lit. No social distancing at all. Keep them closed.

Yes, I understand.  I'm not suggesting it's 100% safe, but that's a 1:1 interaction, where you can clean afterwards, wear gloves, masks, etc.  Like a doctor or dentist or whatever else.

When you go to the barber, you potentially expose yourself to one person and you can minimize the risk -- have an open, well-ventilated area.  But a shop full of people greatly increases that risk.  A church is 100s of people sharing a space.  Or a restaurant or whatever.

I was taught that if anyone, preacher or otherwise, tells you to give them money and God will bless you for it that they should skip the middleman and give you the money so God will bless them.

I said something very similar to my wife last night when the news was talking about all the churches in our area that are still congregating every Sunday.  Darwin doing what Darwin do.   The skimmer in the gene pool needs a helping hand now and then.

It's not really Darwin at work, though.  If this killed indiscriminately to everyone who made poor choices, I'd be all for it.  But these idiots go to church, get the virus, survive, and then pass it to the general public, where it ends up killing my Dad.

A lot of churches don't have the capability to have services online.

Inaccurate.  My parents church is as tiny as it gets.  The pastor had his wife film him with her phone and streamed it live on Facebook.

I can put a church service up right now on youtube from my cellphone for free with a tithing link on a gofundme or patreon or paypal link.  That's the easiest of easy industries to move to a digital format.

Valid point.
