Title: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 07:53:01 pm May our prayers be answered and tonight's draft lead us back to the Superbowl. Week 1 against the Ravens was a lifetime ago, this is why we sucked and cut everyone with talent or who even knew how to spell "football".
Fins Up! Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: CF DolFan on April 23, 2020, 08:01:29 pm Let's get it on!!

Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 09:32:44 pm Here comes the run of OT off the board. We are definitely going to get the second tier of OL but they can still be quality players that improve the team. Don't know if we grab one at 18 or McKinney if he is available.
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: Spider-Dan on April 23, 2020, 09:36:44 pm If Wirfs or Becton (just one, not both) are still on the board at 13, MIA should try to trade up with SF. SF has no 2nd or 3rd round pick and has been trying to trade down.
edit: Becton just went to NYJ. Unless LV takes Wirfs, MIA should call SF and get it done. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 09:37:58 pm If Wirfs or Becton (just one, not both) are still on the board at 13, MIA should try to trade up with SF. SF has no 2nd or 3rd round pick and has been trying to trade down. I would imagine we will be active and trade up or down if the right opportunity and price comes along. Using a 2nd to move up for a great Tackle is worth it, just not multiple picks. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 09:39:12 pm If Wirfs or Becton (just one, not both) are still on the board at 13, MIA should try to trade up with SF. SF has no 2nd or 3rd round pick and has been trying to trade down. Becton is now gone to the Jets. 3 gone in the first 11 picks. 2nd priciest position on the field. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: masterfins on April 23, 2020, 09:49:58 pm With the Top 3 picks at tackle drafted looks like filling another position at #18 would make sense. There are some starters out there at LB, DT, DE, & S, and WR if they aren't snatched up before Miami, that could be major improvements.
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: Spider-Dan on April 23, 2020, 09:50:36 pm TB traded up one spot. It's either for a tackle or a WR, whichever Tommy wants.
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 09:54:06 pm TB traded up one spot. It's either for a tackle or a WR, whichever Tommy wants. Wirfs, the Tackle. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: bsmooth on April 23, 2020, 10:11:47 pm Ruiz at 18?
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 10:19:03 pm Ruiz at 18? We just got the guy from the Pats. It's funny, our O-Line failed for years because we ignored the interior part of it and just had tackles. Now, we got the interior locked up and need tackles. We got Tua, we really should go tackle if McKinney is unavailable. Lamb is tempting but that's a luxury position at this point. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 10:22:41 pm McKinney is available. Take him or a tackle, but don't waste a 1st rounder on a running back. Literally a dime a dozen.
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 10:36:46 pm Dolphins selected USC OT Austin Jackson with the No. 18 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
This was the pick the Dolphins got from the Steelers in the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade. A two-year starter at left tackle in OC Graham Harrell's up-tempo Air Raid scheme, 20-year-old Jackson (6’5/322) earned first-team All-Pac 12 honors in his final year at USC. His 2019 tape showcases lackluster footwork and traits of a mid-round prospect, but note that Jackson donated bone marrow to his sister only two months prior to the Trojans' season opener, losing 25 pounds while recovering his hip flexibility. That could also explain why he was dominated by Iowa EDGE A.J. Epenesa in the 2019 Holiday Bowl. Fortunately, Jackson's 89th-percentile Adjusted SPARQ athleticism, as well as his formidable length and quickness, are reasons to be optimistic that he can develop into a quality starter in due time. Jackson may struggle in his first year out the gates but has the ceiling of a multi-year Pro-Bowler with proper development backing him. In Miami, he will have to play immediately, likely sliding in at left tackle ahead of cellar-dweller option Julie'n Davenport and next to free-agent pickup LG Ereck Flowers. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: hordman on April 23, 2020, 10:45:09 pm Not gonna lie, I thought they should have taken McKinney here and got Jackson at 26.
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: bsmooth on April 23, 2020, 10:55:46 pm McKinney may still be available
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: masterfins on April 23, 2020, 11:03:16 pm Not gonna lie, I thought they should have taken McKinney here and got Jackson at 26. +1 Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 11:05:23 pm Not gonna lie, I thought they should have taken McKinney here and got Jackson at 26. Same here, but they had to get at least 1 Tackle in the first round and you never know how drafts play out. Maybe a run on them would've happened again and they would be left with a guy in the 3rd round. Better to take one now and then the best player available at 26. That may still be McKinney. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: CF DolFan on April 23, 2020, 11:05:44 pm McKinney may still be available That would be niceTitle: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: CF DolFan on April 23, 2020, 11:06:58 pm D'Andre Swift anyone?
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 11:11:09 pm D'Andre Swift anyone? No. It's tempting but they are just too easy to replace. Unless you have one that is super elite, it's not worth it. We can get a good one in the 2nd or 3rd round. If a RB was the last piece of the puzzle then so be it but we still need more. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 11:13:15 pm One pick to go and then it is us again. If the Vikings select an OT like Ezra Cleveland, then McKinney can be ours. I mean, that would make it practically everyone's mock draft just with a reverse order.
We all wanted Tua then McKinney and then Josh Jones at OT, but here we got our OT at 18 and could get McKinney at 26. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 11:16:10 pm Damnit, the fucking 49ers just traded with Minnesota and they're definitely taking McKinney. Alright, who's the next best fit?
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 11:20:00 pm Oh shit, they went WR.
Let's go McKinney! Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: CF DolFan on April 23, 2020, 11:22:23 pm I'd actually be happy if they took Cam Akers later on
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: CF DolFan on April 23, 2020, 11:26:20 pm CRAP!!!! We traded out of the pick
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 11:26:42 pm We just moved back 4 spots for a 5th rounder. Eh, don't really like that.
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 11:27:52 pm Green Bay picked Jordan Love, the heir apparent to Rogers. While Rogers is great, he is pretty much a total asshole and I can't imagine will volunteer to mentor the rookie.
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: CF DolFan on April 23, 2020, 11:31:48 pm Neither did Favre but that worked out fine. I swear I have no idea why we made that trade unless it was a favor for something else. We already have more picks than we can use on our team
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 11:36:37 pm It's their 4th rounder but like the very last pick of the round. We can certainly use depth everywhere so an extra 4th rounder can't hurt but I want McKinney as the Minkah replacement. Our secondary could be one of the best in the league with that guy.
Or, draft Jones and have the whole O-Line solved within one offseason. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: Spider-Dan on April 23, 2020, 11:37:55 pm I'm thinking MIA doesn't want McKinney because they already have enough money wrapped in DBs.
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: Downunder Dolphan on April 23, 2020, 11:40:00 pm It's their 4th rounder but like the very last pick of the round. Or, draft Jones and have the whole O-Line solved within one offseason. The way things are playing out, McKinney will still be there at 30, or Jones or Cleveland if they want to double down on OL picks. Diggs would be a juicy prospect too, but we are already loaded at CB. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: Downunder Dolphan on April 23, 2020, 11:42:01 pm I'd actually be happy if they took Cam Akers later on Just saw his bio, I'd be very happy if we snag him too. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 23, 2020, 11:51:12 pm How is Ezra Cleveland still on the board? His combine work was phenomenal, he is a Day 1 starter. Might not make 14 straight Pro Bowls but there is huge value to a LT or RT you can plug right in immediately.
Shit, maybe I want him over McKinney now. Either of those two, can't go wrong. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: Spider-Dan on April 24, 2020, 12:00:30 am ????????
If you wanted a DB, why wouldn't you take McKinney to replace Reshad? You already have the most expensive CB duo in the league. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: masterfins on April 24, 2020, 12:03:50 am Let's gooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That made absolutely no sense. We are clearly loaded at CB right now and had other positions of need that we could've filled with that pick.
That was a legitimately awful pick. Doesn't ruin the draft for me but definitely leaves it on a sour note for the evening. Seriously, what the fuck was that? Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: CF DolFan on April 24, 2020, 12:08:23 am Just saw his bio, I'd be very happy if we snag him too. he played behind some crappy offensive lines at FSU but he’s a good RB. We are clearly loaded at CB right now and had other positions of need that we could've filled with that pick. That was a legitimately awful pick. Doesn't ruin the draft for me but definitely leaves it on a sour note for the evening. Seriously, what the fuck was that? Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. I was happy with the first 2 picks. They needed to replace Jones at Safety and McKinney was there at 26 so I was all happy because McKinne is essentially Minkah 2.0. So I was pissed because instead of taking him they traded back. Luckily McKinney was still there at 30. Yes! And what happens, they take a CB after they already have the 2 most expensive CBs in the NFL. WTF!! All the holes on this team. Even if for some reason they don't like McKinney which clearly they don't, there are so many other places that need talent on this team. A true WTF pick. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 24, 2020, 12:23:30 am Was this kid even mocked to go in the first 2 rounds?
Whatever, we still might get McKinney or Jones tomorrow when we pick 5th, but it looks like we actually don't like McKinney for some reason. So, hopefully we just go Tackle and put that to rest. Give the line a whole year to gel together before Tua takes over in 2021. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: Dolphster on April 24, 2020, 12:35:39 am Was this kid even mocked to go in the first 2 rounds? Give the line a whole year to gel together before Tua takes over in 2021. Most had him a 2nd to 3rd rounder. I just don't get it. I know that McKinney didn't exactly blow everyone away at the combine, but I thought he was the best Safety in the draft. I really wanted Ruiz and the Saints got him a couple picks before Miami. Even though the Fins have a Center (at least for this year), Ruiz was the best interior lineman in the draft and was adaptable and quick enough to easily transition to Guard. But at least the Saints are my 2nd fave team LOL I still can't for the life of me figure out the Auburn CB with the 30th pick though. I just don't get it at all. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: Downunder Dolphan on April 24, 2020, 01:23:30 am The way things are playing out, McKinney will still be there at 30, or Jones or Cleveland if they want to double down on OL picks. Diggs would be a juicy prospect too, but we are already loaded at CB. Haha, right gut instinct about the position, wrong player! ;D ;D ;D I am not so upset about the pick, according to CBS he was projected as 38th best player in the draft & next best CB on the list available (after Diggs) so it's not a huge reach. The following pick went CB too so perhaps the timing was just right... I suppose the question is (even without Brady in the division) can you ever have too many cover corners? Also, it has to bring up the prospect that Xavier Howard's time in a Dolphins jersey may be coming to an end sooner than some think... maybe not in 2020, but after that? As it turns out, all of McKinney, Jones & Cleveland are still on the board at the end of day 1, there's a decent chance at least one of them could be there at the Fins first pick at 39 (7 picks in tomorrow). That said, will Cam Akers (ranked at 49) last until the Dolphins next pick at 56? Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: Tenshot13 on April 24, 2020, 07:51:53 am I'm very excited we took Tua, dynasty starts now!
I'm good with Jackson, the big 4 OT were gone, and there were talks he would be a top 10 pick next year. He might struggle this season, but next season he should be ready to be a franchise tackle. He's only 20 years old and has plenty of time to get stronger and learn the speed of the pros. He's a high character guy, donated bone marrow to his sister which effected his play last season. Noah Igbinoghene has a grade at A+ by CBS and as low as a D by other sites. Some say he's the 3rd best CB, others say he's a reach. I like that he's a press coverage guy, and I trust Grier and Flores to pick the right players for our system. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: hordman on April 24, 2020, 08:15:10 am Yes, this was a headscratcher, thought for sure when they went back to 30th (which I thought was good, got an extra pick in the 4th) rthey gonna get McKinney
Not sure why, but maybe they get him in the 2nd? Dunno. CBS listed Igbinoghene strengths/weaknesses below. I did go back and watch his game vs LSU and from what I saw, he was pretty good considering the talent he was going against. He does mirror the WR very well. Strengths Comes from a track background Extremely physical throughout route Solid mirroring skills, rarely out of position Weaknesses Relatively new to the position; only played CB last two seasons Can get handsy when he doesn't locate ball early Instincts aren't there yet One thing also he does is returns Kicks, so maybe that's another reason to snag him? We'll see Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: Sunstroke on April 24, 2020, 09:26:20 am Well, the first two picks went according to plan...They stood pat at #5 and took Tua, and I said one of the top-5 OTs would be available at #18, and Austin Jackson was my #5 OT. The Igbinoghene pick was a little surprising, as there were at least 3-4 corners available on my list ahead of him, and I thought they'd either go with a safety like McKinney, a DL like Davidson or Blacklock, or even a second OT in Ezra Cleveland instead. Miami has 3 picks tonight...I'd drop a buck and say that Miami will get the DL and S before round 3 is done. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 24, 2020, 10:21:57 am While the 3rd pick was shocking at first, it shouldn't take away from the player. Almost everyone has very positive things to say about him and I'm sure the staff did a lot of research to pick him. One hing to look at is Howard's injury history and salary. If he misses another 8 games or so this year due to injury, maybe Noah is his much cheaper replacement. The way his contract works, he can basically be cut after 2022. Team might be thinking ahead.
I'm still not in favor of the move but the kid looks to be a quality player, not like we drafted a punter. Of course, this probably rules out McKinney even if he is available. If we do take him, it's literally the league's best secondary if Howard is healthy. We can have Stephen Hawking at Defensive End and still the QB will have a rough day. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: CF DolFan on April 24, 2020, 11:41:20 am He's not taking Howard's spot. I read he's going to be the nickel back. Most teams are playing 3-4 wide so he should be on the field most plays.
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: CF DolFan on April 24, 2020, 11:55:03 am Don't know if you guys remember former GM Randy Mueller (I like him) but he had this to say.
Randy Mueller @RandyMueller_ · 1h Tua gives @MiamiDolphins hope at most important position- I like the pick. But what should make fins fans happy is the other additions they have made, in free agency and @NFLDraft . GM Grier and HC Flores have done great job rebuilding this team. They WON day 1 imo. Most efficient QB in college football history. Has the best QBR in college football history. Has a quicker release than Aaron Rodgers, who has a quicker release than Dan Marino. LEEEESSSSSSGOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Unless Fitzpatrick gets injured midseason, Tua basically has a whole year to not only get 100% healthy but put on some mass and train in a way to avoid future injuries. Plus, learn how to throw the damn ball away so he won't get hit. That was an issue for him like it was for Tannehill. QBs don't get hit as much in the NFL because it's practically illegal, so as long as he throw sit away more, he should be fine. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: CF DolFan on April 24, 2020, 01:55:40 pm I was already thinking about this and I bet Tua gets special treatment before he even earns it. The NFL needs elite QBs these days and can't afford to loose them over stupid stuff.
Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: DenverFinFan on April 24, 2020, 05:06:11 pm Whatever happens I’m so glad they took the risk on Tua. Give him a year, get him a line and have him bulk up a little and I think the team has a bright future.

Plus, learn how to throw the damn ball away so he won't get hit. That was an issue for him like it was for Tannehill. Unfortunately I don't think that's gonna happen. Unless Tua is injured, the pressure is gonna be on Flores to play him. I think Flores will have Fitzpatrick start the year, but every passing week the pressure is gonna build to put him on the field and see what he can do. If he sits an entire year it will shock me. This actually was another reason that I thought Herbert was a better choice, I thought there would be far less pressure to start Herbert and give him more time to become the starter then there will be with Tua. All the fans that wanted him are going to want to see him play sooner rather than later. They've already been waiting a year for this, I don't see them having much patience and honestly I don't think the owner and perhaps even Flores and Grier will have that kind of patience.QBs don't get hit as much in the NFL because it's practically illegal, so as long as he throw sit away more, he should be fine. Title: Re: Good Luck, Gentlemen Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 24, 2020, 08:39:21 pm Thoughts on Hunt? I said this in the other thread but he is rated as one of the top Guards even though he plays RT, so we have options. Like our new LT, he has some work to do. Which is why it's best for Tua to sit the whole year and let these guys learn on the job without getting him killed. |
