Title: Top Sheets Post by: Dave Gray on January 14, 2021, 09:37:18 am So, I didn't even know this was a thing, but I saw a post somewhere about this movement away from top sheets (in bedding). Either people want less laundry, find the sheet smothering and oppressive -- I've never even heard of this, but apparently lots of millennials don't like a top sheet.
This is savagery. Top sheets keep things feeling clean, smooth, and cool. It's the sign of a comfortably made bed. Do you prefer a top sheet? Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Fau Teixeira on January 14, 2021, 09:48:43 am i think people that don't like top sheets are barbarians
Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Sunstroke on January 14, 2021, 09:51:38 am Fitted sheet, top sheet, no blanket, 4 pillows of different shapes/sizes/uses. That's my bed... Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Dolphster on January 14, 2021, 09:56:57 am No top sheet should be referred to as "camping"
Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Tenshot13 on January 14, 2021, 10:00:20 am We don't have a top sheet. Fitted sheet, comforter, two throw blankets for each of us.
Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on January 14, 2021, 11:17:31 am I prefer duvets.
Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Dave Gray on January 14, 2021, 11:27:34 am I prefer duvets. Yeah, but a duvet is an "and". Not an "or". Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on January 14, 2021, 11:33:01 am Yeah, but a duvet is an "and". Not an "or". They serve the same purpose. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: pondwater on January 14, 2021, 11:34:40 am Kind of like the washcloth vs no washcloth argument
Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on January 14, 2021, 11:38:12 am Kind of like the washcloth vs no washcloth argument I think Dave is trying to insert something a bit more lighthearted than a raging pandemic or an attempted putche into the discussion. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Dave Gray on January 14, 2021, 11:51:56 am Kind of like the washcloth vs no washcloth argument Yeah -- that's like a cultural thing. The top sheet thing might be generational. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Spider-Dan on January 14, 2021, 12:33:30 pm I rarely, if ever, wash my blankets and comforters. But if you don't have a top sheet, then I suppose that every time you change your (fitted) sheet, you also wash your blankets?
Madness. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: pondwater on January 14, 2021, 01:19:32 pm Yeah -- that's like a cultural thing. The top sheet thing might be generational. Cultural? Personally, I've never seen the need for a washcloth. Plus they irritate my skin. I guess most people use them though. However, I do need a top sheet. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on January 14, 2021, 01:45:49 pm Yeah -- that's like a cultural thing. The top sheet thing might be generational. FYI the idea that Europeans don’t use wash clothes is a myth. This myth stems from a misunderstanding of why you don’t find washcloths in European Hotels. Most Europeans view wash cloths as a personal item that you would bring from home and are just as repulsed at using a shared version as we would be of using a toothbrush that the last guest use and then washed before our visit. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: stinkfish on January 14, 2021, 01:54:19 pm There's one on the bed, but wifey and I don't use it. We're both under a blanket instead. It usual just ends up in a ball between us.
Not to derail the topic, but must one be an evil genius to fold a fitted sheet? Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Dave Gray on January 14, 2021, 02:18:47 pm Cultural? Personally, I've never seen the need for a washcloth. Plus they irritate my skin. I guess most people use them though. Yeah, it seems that black people and the deep South are where this wash cloth use is coming from. My black friends and my family (but only those raised in the deep South, skewing older) used wash cloths. I never use a wash cloth, and for some reason, they kinda gross me out. But I hear the same for the other side that accuses me of using a raw bar on soap directly on my asshole and then on someone else's face. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Sunstroke on January 14, 2021, 02:37:48 pm ^^^ Everyone knows that you don't use bar soap on your butthole...that's what brillo pads and pressure washers are for... I don't use a washcloth either...haven't actually owned a single washcloth since I left for the military in 1982. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Tenshot13 on January 14, 2021, 02:45:50 pm I used washcloths when I was younger, or occasionally when one is available. I use a luffa most of the time though.
Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Sunstroke on January 14, 2021, 02:49:13 pm I used washcloths when I was younger, or occasionally when one is available. I use a luffa most of the time though. "The Luffa...it exfoliates" (bonus points if you can name the incredible sports movie that line is from) Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: pondwater on January 14, 2021, 03:22:02 pm Yeah, it seems that black people and the deep South are where this wash cloth use is coming from. My black friends and my family (but only those raised in the deep South, skewing older) used wash cloths. I knew that most black people used washcloths. Wasn't aware of the deep south part though. The concerning thing is that some people reuse the same washcloth. That's fucking nasty. I never use a wash cloth, and for some reason, they kinda gross me out. But I hear the same for the other side that accuses me of using a raw bar on soap directly on my asshole and then on someone else's face. I usually just soap my hands up and proceed to wash my body with the lather and then wash the ahole last. Then wash my hands off good. But then again, I don't use bar soap, I use body wash. So once I squirt it in my hand, I don't really touch anything else in the shower that would be shared. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Spider-Dan on January 14, 2021, 03:45:38 pm I was taught to use a washcloth growing up, but I stopped as an adult. I have a loofah, but I don't use it all the time.
I don't understand why people get so worked up about a bar of soap being tainted (ahem). Soap is self-cleaning. Not to derail the topic, but must one be an evil genius to fold a fitted sheet? This is the method I use:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckTCocBCUN4 Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Dolphster on January 14, 2021, 04:30:43 pm Not judging, but I'm a little bit troubled by the number of dudes in here who use a loofah. Good old fashioned washcloth. Preferably a rough one to clean out those pores. Wash the junk next to last and the undercarriage last. A new washcloth for each shower.
Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Fau Teixeira on January 14, 2021, 04:47:17 pm I use a loofah, nothing wrong with that .. proper skin care is important.
Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Pappy13 on January 14, 2021, 05:04:25 pm I rarely, if ever, wash my blankets and comforters. But if you don't have a top sheet, then I suppose that every time you change your (fitted) sheet, you also wash your blankets? Comforter, yes. We don't use blankets on the bed and even if we did it would be on top of the comforter so it's not getting soiled. For the record we use a top sheet as well but my wife still washes the comforter every time she washes the sheets.Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Dolphster on January 14, 2021, 05:11:47 pm I use a loofah, nothing wrong with that .. proper skin care is important. No offense intended. I was just busting y'all's chops. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Spider-Dan on January 14, 2021, 05:27:54 pm Not judging, but I'm a little bit troubled by the number of dudes in here who use a loofah. Loofahs are both more effective (better suds faster) and lower maintenance (just rinse it out) than a washcloth.Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: masterfins on January 14, 2021, 06:46:02 pm Yes, you have to use a Top Sheet, otherwise you would need to wash the blankets/Comforters/Duvets all the time.
Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Dolphster on January 15, 2021, 07:58:40 am Loofahs are both more effective (better suds faster) and lower maintenance (just rinse it out) than a washcloth. You are probably right, but I'm just old and stuck in my ways and averse to change. lol "Get off my lawn!" Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: ArtieChokePhin on January 15, 2021, 09:08:01 am My wife and I have a top sheet and a comforter but we rarely use the comforter because most nights in South Florida are hot.
Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Dave Gray on January 15, 2021, 09:57:32 am Good old fashioned washcloth. Are you or your family from the deep South? Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Dolphster on January 15, 2021, 10:17:56 am Are you or your family from the deep South? No, I was actually born in Ohio and we moved to the Ft. Lauderdale area when I was 7. Although Ft. Lauderdale is geographically in the extreme south, it isn't very southern as most of us would probably agree. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Dave Gray on January 15, 2021, 10:43:02 am No, I was actually born in Ohio and we moved to the Ft. Lauderdale area when I was 7. Although Ft. Lauderdale is geographically in the extreme south, it isn't very southern as most of us would probably agree. Interesting. I agree -- Florida, unless you're maybe talking about the panhandle or tip-top of the state, isn't Deep South. That's Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, etc. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Spider-Dan on January 15, 2021, 11:02:39 am Interesting. That's Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, etc. I know you've said that before, but I'm wondering if you live in a South Florida bubble. Talking to my friends near Tampa or Orlando, it doesn't seem that different from Jacksonville to me.Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Dave Gray on January 15, 2021, 11:22:14 am I know you've said that before, but I'm wondering if you live in a South Florida bubble. Talking to my friends near Tampa or Orlando, it doesn't seem that different from Jacksonville to me. I don't think I'm in a bubble. I feel pretty confident about this topic. I have family and friends both in and around Central Florida and know those areas fairly well. The North of FL is the Deep South. So is the panhandle. The Central part, in particular Tampa/Orlando areas, but also the West Coast -- that plays out kinda like the midwest. They're older, they're more conservative for sure, but they're not quite as Deep South rednecky as when you get up near the border and out through Tallahassee. And the South is liberal/hispanic/jewish or "money conservatives". Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: ArtieChokePhin on January 15, 2021, 12:26:13 pm I don't think I'm in a bubble. South Florida is definitely not the "Deep South". Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: CF DolFan on January 15, 2021, 01:20:29 pm Interesting. I agree -- Florida, unless you're maybe talking about the panhandle or tip-top of the state, isn't Deep South. That's Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, etc. I disagree. I absolutely think you are seeing things from the bubble. Outside of the Miami to West Palm area I'd say most of the state has it's fair share of southern hospitality. Most of the center of the state all the way up is very southern not to mention parts of Fort Myers, Tampa, Bradenton, and Orlando areas as well as Kissimmee (high school is the Cowboys), Kenansville, Yeehaw Junction, Sebring, Arcadia etc. People think Orlando is Disney and International Blvd. but Bithlo, Ocoee, Winter Garden surround Orlando and are mainly southern people not too mention Even down south by you some of the biggest Rednecks I know come from all sides of Okeechobee, Loxahatchee, and Belle Glade. In fact some of the biggest rodeos in the state are down there. BTW ... I'm all for a top sheet as well as blanket. We set our ac to 69 at night just so we can snuggle up at night. Does that mean I'm a redneck? Hahaha

You from that area Artie? Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: CF DolFan on January 15, 2021, 10:06:34 pm Lots of horse farms around there. You from that area We live between Orlando and Daytona and ride through Ocala several times a year on our motorcycles. There are some beautiful properties up there. Some of the greatest race horses ever have trained there and their most famous resident is John Travolta. If you like small towns you will enjoy Ocala. Artie? Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: Phishfan on January 16, 2021, 07:00:18 am Top sheet? I still sleep like I'm in college. I sleep under nothing or have a loose blanket i pull over me if chilled.
Wash cloth? Not in my own home. I don't touch my junk or butthole with the bar though. I lather up my hands. When I visit my parents I fall back to old routine and use a cloth. Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: pondwater on January 16, 2021, 08:25:18 am We live between Orlando and Daytona and ride through Ocala several times a year on our motorcycles. I don't know the numbers, but coming from Jackson. Ocala doesn't seem like a small town. But then again, I really have only dealt with SR200. I guess it's the main strip and that's why it's so crowed and busy.Title: Re: Top Sheets Post by: ArtieChokePhin on January 16, 2021, 03:09:16 pm Lots of horse farms around there. It's more of a midsize town than a small town but nowhere near the size of Miami, Tampa, or Orlando. Hell, I shouldn't be able to live in the house since the community is age restricted to 55 years old. The only reason I can live there is because I inherited it when my Dad died a few months ago. I think there's some kind of law about inheriting houses or something. You think the Marshall half stack and Les Paul drunk at 1am gonna get me kicked out the old folks community? LMFAO... |
