Title: Devonta Smith and Najee Harris just accepted invite to Senior Bowl (edited) Post by: CF DolFan on January 18, 2021, 09:12:28 am Dolphins are coaching the National team but it hasn't yet been announced who he will play for. I'm not sure why he is doing this unless he is wanting to work with the Miami coaches.

Title: Re: Devonta Smith just accepted invite to Senior Bowl and Dolphins are coaching Post by: CF DolFan on January 18, 2021, 12:35:22 pm Although the East West Shrine has been canceled the Senior Bowl is full go with Miami coaching the National team and Carolina coaching the American team. Based on rosters so far it looks like Carolina will have the advantage but adding Smith to the Dolphins team will be big if not for anything else but to be able to work with him in practice.

According to Jim Nagy ... He will not be cleared to participate in any on-field activities due to thumb injury but he will go thru team meetings with Coach Flo’s Dolphin staff and interview with decision-makers from all 32 clubs. Seems like he could do the same at the combine but who knows. Maybe the extra time with Flo will net him millions instead of hundreds of thousands.
Title: Re: Devonta Smith and Najee Harris just accepted invite to Senior Bowl (edited) Post by: CF DolFan on January 20, 2021, 09:42:09 pm The Miami Dolphins may be in the market for a running back this year and if the draft is where they hope to find one, Najee Harris might just be their guy.
Harris will be a full participant at this year’s Senior Bowl and will spend his week working with the Miami Dolphins coaching staff. If he is hoping for a reunion with Tua Tagovailoa, he will need to impress the coaching staff, of course, his college tape has been pretty darn impressive as it is. Having Harris at the practices will likely be the only chance for the staff to get one on one time with Harris ahead of the draft. The NFL is changing the format for the NFL Combine and as such, the workouts will be virtual events. Apparently the goofy format of the combine this year is bringing out some big guns to the Senior bowl Title: Re: Devonta Smith and Najee Harris just accepted invite to Senior Bowl (edited) Post by: EDGECRUSHER on January 20, 2021, 10:03:11 pm Harris is a great RB and I think I would be okay with taking him in the 2nd round if we get our guys in the 1st round.

Normally I'd agree but I think if we don't grab him with our second we won't see him again. I had to look for it but this is one of the best reviews I've seen of him. "Najee Harris is a first-round talent playing a Day 2 position. He’s a three-down back who can do it all — grind it out on the inside, get around the corner and catch the ball out of the backfield." I have no idea if we go receiver, edge, or LT but if we hit at 3 ...which should be a given, then the luxury of having a second pick in the first round allows us to take a player sooner than we normally would IMO. Of course if we can get a stud LT and great receiver then I think we look for the best RB in round 2. that's the crazy thing about preparing for a draft ... everything has to be fluid because not too much goes as planned after the first few picks of the draft. Title: Re: Devonta Smith and Najee Harris just accepted invite to Senior Bowl (edited) Post by: EDGECRUSHER on January 21, 2021, 10:02:41 am If we trade down from the 3 pick and get more picks, it's possible we can get our choice of WR and Harris with one of the extra picks. That #3 pick is a Godsend and can do almost anything.

It may be possible to trade down twice then and pick up a slew of picks in the process. Because Atlanta at 4 may want to bring in Matt Ryan's eventual replacement or even move on from him completely. Cincy at 5 will want to move up to grab Sewell. That will net us at least two second rounders giving us a total of 4 in this draft. Plus other picks Title: Re: Devonta Smith and Najee Harris just accepted invite to Senior Bowl (edited) Post by: Spider-Dan on January 21, 2021, 02:27:39 pm Picking a RB in the first round is a sucker's bet.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of taking an RB in the first round either. Too much wear and tear and too short of a shelf life at that position to be expending a 1st rounder on it. Especially this year where there aren't any "generational talents" coming out at the position. Harris is solid but not spectacular. Eitenne from Clemson is more explosive but can't hold onto the ball. And those are probably the top 2 prospects coming out this year. If we are going to trade out of #3 and give up chance to draft a generational talent in Sewell, we need to snag a home run receiver like Smith or Chase. Then maybe grab Leatherwood in the bottom of the first round. |
