Title: Lions Do Not Franchise Tag Kenny Golladay Post by: EDGECRUSHER on March 09, 2021, 01:42:44 pm In local circles, he is our #1 free agent target. Could be a bidding war, all it takes is one stupid team to go 30% over market value and it screws it up for everyone. However, if we have money to spend, rather it on him than Aaron Jones. Sign him and draft a WR at #3 and our unit just became fierce.

Add a second WR (Amon-Ra, Terrace Marshall, Kadarius Toney) in the 2nd or 3rd round. There are many scenarios that I would be happy with, including trading down but at this point I would rather keep the pick unless someone gives us a Bill O'Brien offer. The war is won in the trenches... Ereck Flowers basically signed a 2 year deal as he only has $1 Million of guaranteed money after this season. Isaiah is a nice luxury to have but by no means should he be in our 2021 plans to the point we won't make other moves. Thinking of ways we can draft both Sewell and one of the Top 3 WRs but that would cost a 1st and 2nd, might be worth it. There are plenty of other O-Line options at the bottom of the first round and/or the top of the second round. This draft seems to be top heavy with OTs with Sewell being the cream of a rich crop. Look what I did in my mock draft simulator. There's a realistic chance that could very well happen. Keep in mind the D-Line needs to be shored up as well. This draft seems to be top heavy with OTs with Sewell being the cream of a rich crop. I don't see it that deep, and the gap between Sewell and the rest seems like a significant margin. At the risk of being charged with Felony Hubris, which do you want...a basic solid starter at OT, or do you want Orlando Fucking Pace manning the line for the next 10 years. This class has a clear leader at each of the OL positions. The best C is Creed Humphrey, the best OG is Wyatt Davis and the best OT is Pennei Sewell. Miami has the opportunity to add at least 1-2 extreme OL difference-makers. After hearing Dolphins fans complain about the O-line for years, here is your opportunity to address it the way it should be addressed. Title: Re: Lions Do Not Franchise Tag Kenny Golladay Post by: Sunstroke on March 10, 2021, 03:10:19 pm Where do you see Creed Humphrey being drafted? Earliest I see him mocked is mid-1 to Arizona, latest is usually first half of round 2. Since I am already guilty of hubris, imagine having Orlando Pace AND Dwight Stephenson manning your line for the next 10 years... ;) Title: Re: Lions Do Not Franchise Tag Kenny Golladay Post by: EDGECRUSHER on March 10, 2021, 03:16:37 pm Earliest I see him mocked is mid-1 to Arizona, latest is usually first half of round 2. The prices of O-Linemen are so insane it's basically a housing bubble right now. Makes sense to draft the more expensive positions and use free agency on the less expensive. If we bought a Top 10 O-Linemen at each of the 5 positions, that could be around $75 Million a year. Can't be like the Cowboys and use up 40% of your cap on just a few players. JuJu is too pricey and too much of a headache, TY would be a decent contributor but he can't be our main acquisition. Kenny has been rumored to go to Miami for awhile now, he is probably our #1 free agent target. We sign him and we can draft Penell or pretend like we will draft Penell and ransom the pick to the Bengals and then draft a WR. While I agree with your points on the classic leaders, I respectfully disagree that the gap between Sewell and the other OT's is pretty significant. You can grab a Rashawn Slater or Christian Darrisaw mid round 1 or even an Alex Leatherwood, Jalen Mayfield, or Sam Cosami at the top of round 2 and still get a solid anchor at LT/RT. And I never said the draft was deep with OTs. But when six or seven are slated to go in the first two rounds, that definitely makes it top heavy Title: Re: Lions Do Not Franchise Tag Kenny Golladay Post by: Sunstroke on March 11, 2021, 08:43:32 am While I agree with your points on the classic leaders, I respectfully disagree that the gap between Sewell and the other OT's is pretty significant. You can grab a Rashawn Slater or Christian Darrisaw mid round 1... If we pass on Sewell with the early 1st, then I will immediately begin lighting candles for Darrisaw. I consider him the #2 OT in this class. Slater is fine, but I think most of his value comes from his positional versatility. or even an Alex Leatherwood, Jalen Mayfield, or Sam Cosami at the top of round 2 and still get a solid anchor at LT/RT. Yes, there are "solid" OTs that can be had in round 2. I was just hoping for something a little higher up the scale than solid to protect Tua. They will pay since other teams want to draft a QB too and that inflates the price. Draft Sewell at 4, then grab the 6th pick from Philly in exchange for our #18 and the 2nd and 3rd we just got. Might have to throw in another 3rd rounder or so. Use that pick to draft whichever WR the Bengals didn't draft. I will email Chris Grier immediately. This is very similar to the strategy I use in my mocks occasionally, though my second trade is usually up to Denver at #9 or Dallas at 10., depending on whether there are 1 or 2 of the top receiving targets (Chase, Smith, Pitts, Waddle) still available at that point. Yes, email Grier immediately, let him know the fans have reached a quorum on round one. ;) Title: Re: Lions Do Not Franchise Tag Kenny Golladay Post by: EDGECRUSHER on March 11, 2021, 09:22:48 am I use Philly at 6 because they will draft a WR to help out Hurts, I don't think Waddle is worth trading a lot for. I will gladly take him but not at the cost of several draft picks.
Title: Re: Lions Do Not Franchise Tag Kenny Golladay Post by: Sunstroke on March 11, 2021, 10:56:01 am ^^^ Yeah, Waddle is definitely the #4 receiver in that first group, and a healthy bit removed from the first three. I see everyone putting him at 3 unless you add in Kyle Pitts. My receiver's list would be: 1) Ja'Marr Chase 2) Kyle Pitts 3) Devonta Smith 4) Jaylen Waddle 4a) Rondale Moore Title: Re: Lions Do Not Franchise Tag Kenny Golladay Post by: ArtieChokePhin on March 11, 2021, 06:46:18 pm I do put Pitts in there. I think it's likely he signs with them. So, Ju Ju might become a realistic target for us but it looks like no WR is breaking the bank this offseason so maybe a 1 year deal is signed.
Title: Re: Lions Do Not Franchise Tag Kenny Golladay Post by: EDGECRUSHER on March 18, 2021, 04:17:32 pm Kenny met with the Bears and left without a deal and the Giants allegedly have a lot of questions for him about his injury.
Sounds like there is some concerning medicals if he is struggling to find 1 year deals. Title: Re: Lions Do Not Franchise Tag Kenny Golladay Post by: EDGECRUSHER on March 19, 2021, 12:30:59 pm Reports are Gollday wants $18.5 Million a year. If that is the case, he will be sitting out the 2021 season. The salary cap has been lowered and no other WR has come close to that number, with even Fuller signing a 1 year deal. Sucks for him but it ain't happening, that is #1 WR money anyay in a normal year and he isn't one of those.
