Title: NHL ref fired Post by: ArtieChokePhin on March 24, 2021, 09:42:32 am Saw on Twitter that NHL official Tim Peel was fired for discussing on a radio show a type of penalty he wanted to call. He was scheduled to retire at the end of the regular season. This is huge.

"Make up penalties" are a thing in every sport. Teams complaining about not getting calls can be effective too, or the ref can penalize you for complaining.
This was the right call though because you can't outright admit it. Title: Re: NHL ref fired Post by: ArtieChokePhin on March 24, 2021, 09:51:32 am I agree it was the right call. But this is a game changer for him now. A month before retirement, he loses his pension and any post-retirement NHL benefits he's entitled to.

A month before retirement, he loses his pension and any post-retirement NHL benefits he's entitled to. That is going to be fought in court and the NFL Referee's Union will fight with him. It would be best if the league just lets him keep everything but his job. You never know what instructions the league has given over the years to the refs about calling penalties or protecting certain star players like Sidney Crosby or Sidney Crosby and maybe even Sidney Crosby. That was a good nostril-snort there...thanks. |
