I created a separate thread about Waddle cause I didn't want this particular subject in the overall Draft Thread.

I love the pick, I think the comparison is Tyreek Hill is not only accurate but the ceiling for Waddle is high and could be a gamechanger for this entire offense.

Now, my question about Waddle and I what from the talking heads the last 24 hrs is "the guy can do everything, he's explosive, great hand and you can use him in the return game"

Let me ask all the Dolphins fans, do you really want this guy (No. 6 pick overall) returning punts & KO's?  The answer is NO, right?

I mean, yes this is a physical competitive game, but you can't have a game-changer on the Offensive side of the ball returning punts & KO's???  Ask Preston Williams how that turned out.  For me personally, I do want him sniffing that role. Call it fear of something or whatever, but those return team guys are flat-out trying to do whatever it takes to take a guy out, albeit some if shady at times.

Thoughts on this?

I'm tired of hearing about how fast Waddle is.  Speed does not necessarily translate to production.

You can't play scared. Yes I want him returning kicks and punts initially. Now if he becomes a focal point of the offense then you have to shut that down a bit just to let him rest but as long as he's not getting too many snaps at WR, he should be returning kicks at least, maybe not punts as well or vice versa. Honestly fielding kickoffs is not really a big deal anymore as they only return 1 in 5 anyway.

I feel like we’ve been burned on this before with speed so I agree. I think this will be different. Maybe not I mean if anyone knows sports heartbreak it is us.

To answer the OP question, yes I want him returning kicks at least for the first year or two, builds character.

Waddle is different than Ginn, he is much more than speed and was a legitimate Top 10 pick while Ginn wasn't even seen as a 1st rounder by many people.

I would say no. Jakeem Grant does a good job on kick returns, unless they are going to let him go.

Yeah, Waddle is probably our #1 receiver right now so I guess skip the kickoffs. How much does Grant make? Because right now he is the 8th WR? 9th? If he is anywhere above $1.5 Million then he is in danger of being cut.

Ted Ginn was rated exactly the same as Waddle: 93 (http://insider.espn.com/nfl/draft/rankings/_/year/2007).  He had the third-highest rating among WRs in that draft, behind Megatron (99) and Dwayne Bowe (94).  (For comparison's sake, Chase is rated a 94 and Smith is rated a 93.)  

Furthermore, Ginn was the 16th-rated player overall, so if he had fallen out of the first round, that would have been an upset. The primary reason Waddle is ranked as a top-10 pick and Ginn wasn't is that the 2007 draft had a LOT of more-highly-rated players; the 2007 draft had 13 players rated a 95 or higher, whereas the 2021 draft had exactly one (and you know who it is).
