Title: No. 1 recruit Travis Hunter flips from FSU to Deion Sanders' Jackson State
Post by: CF DolFan on December 15, 2021, 02:18:18 pm
It's the first five-star high school football prospect to sign with an FCS team since ESPN started its rankings in 2006. The rumor is Barstool Sports is allegedly inking the young star to a massive deal for going there. College football is now officially professional football with one year contracts.

Barstool Sports and Penn National Gaming have reached a deal with the #1 high school player in the nation, Travis Hunter.

This deal is rumored to be in the millions.

It would have been bad for FSU to lose him to another Power 5 conf team like Georgia but this is a huge slam on the whole NCAA process. It's now about who can offer the most money in endorsements. This is what many warned about in paying players.

This deal might be illegal according to Mississippi Name/Image/Likeness laws.

I'm glad the players are allowed to do this now but it also feels weird and not right, but not as wrong as the colleges milking them for every openny and keeping the profits.

Why is this bad?

We all know the idea that this is about quality of education is a joke.  So why shouldn't the players go where they get paid more?  Chances are Hunter will leave before he finishes his degree regardless, but even if he does elect to stay long enough to finish, why shouldn't he take the degree from Jackson State?  A "better" FSU degree will never make up the money he'll get from that one endorsement alone.

I agree with Spider-Dan this isn't bad .. it's capitalism!! .. and the free market.. whomever can pay more gets the players. pretty simple

When Maurice Clarrett went to prison, they found out that he was reading at something like an 8th grade level. So, he obviously didnt go to OSU for the education and the school played along with the silly game as long as he ran well with the ball. Things like this just drop the mask. Not like the NCAA isn't run by the richest teams anyway.

Former FSU and current Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher (who was a thorn in the Hurricanes side) said that these Name/Image/Likeness deals have been going on all along and the only difference is that they are now legal.

Prime Time is at it again.   A five star receiver, Kevin Coleman, who Miami and Florida State were battling for has flipped to Jackson State.

Kids are no longer playing for the love of their home program.  They are going where the money is.  And Coach Prime has connections to get them money.
