Title: Did Ron DeSantis hurt the GOP? Post by: dolphins4life on December 02, 2023, 09:21:56 pm Let’s do some political math
Lots of Republicans moved from other states to Florida during the pandemic = Lots more GOP voters in FLA, but lots fewer GOP voters in other states = landslide victory for Ron DeSantis in Florida, but a decisive triumph for the Democrats in the midterms and it might equal = Trump wins Florida in 2024, but Biden wins a second term Is this math sound? There could be flaws in it. For example, it’s possible that not every migrant to Florida would have been eligible to vote for that state in 2024 Title: Re: Did Ron DeSantis hurt the GOP? Post by: Dave Gray on December 03, 2023, 11:48:35 am I think that you're making more of this political migration than matters or is reality.
I don't think people are moving to Florida for politics in any meaningful numbers. People will come and go from states for issues that might be related to politics, like cost of living and things like that, but I don't think there are many people specifically moving here to be more Republican. It's probably just that their money stretches farther or the weather or whatever. Also, COVID was such a shakeup of norms and a lot more people are working from home, so being in the city where you work is less of a deal. In short, no. Desantis didn't hurt the GOP in any way other than his strengths or weaknesses as a politician. |
