Title: I'd be all for an independent doctor taking a look at the POTUS.
Post by: Pappy13 on May 20, 2025, 12:01:50 pm
Seems to me Republicans are in favor of having an independent doctor take a look at the President to ensure he's fit for office despite his recent physical. Not sure how a doctor is to be chosen though, that could be a problem.

Biden's cancer diagnosis raises fresh questions about his health in white house (https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/other/biden-s-cancer-diagnosis-raises-fresh-questions-about-his-health-in-white-house/ar-AA1F8eSz?ocid=msedgntp&pc=NMTS&cvid=50ee2af1f91a47518176429ae53bfdd7&ei=70)

Any such talk is just like the SCOTUS ruling that it is impossible to charge a president with a crime for any official act: a standard that is only ever intended to be applied to one party.

How do you ensure "independence "? How do you avoid HIPAA?

I think the HIPPA thing is easy enough to get around. The military tests you and if you fail they say you aren't medically qualified. Could be something similar for a President I would think. The only issue I see is there is rarely such thing as unbiased any longer. Money has corrupted many people who previously had no opinion.

Going back some years but I was made President and CEO of Orlando City Youth Soccer because I was the only Board Member who had no agenda but to make the club better. I didn't ask for it nor have I ever played soccer while the others had. All of the other Board Members did not trust the others and I was the only one they could agree on. My wife was shocked when I called her on the way home to tell her. Ironically she did play soccer in her youth.

I don't think it is my business if the President has cancer, MS, or is confined to a wheelchair because of polio.  But I do think it is my business to know if the president has dementia or is recovering (or active) addict.

The only caveat to that I would add is if they knowingly had terminal cancer or some other terminal disease. This would mean you are essentially voting for the vice-president which typically doesn't affect races. In the case of a terminal disease it would have a significant one.

I don't think it's an issue at all. There are mechanisms here. Either they die in office in which case the VP takes over, or if they have dementia or other incapacity issues, then the 25th amendment exists for a reason.
