Title: Preseason game 1 vs Bears
Post by: Dave Gray on August 10, 2025, 09:06:09 pm
I thought that our special teams looked good all around.  Punting, kicking + related coverage....also kick returns.  Looked great.

Same issues with running on 1 and 2 yards to gain.  ...we just get stopped when they know we're gonna run.

I can't remember a Dolphins team that didn't start the year jumping offsides or shifting or some bullshit.  We did that today at some crucial times.

Zach Wilson looked OK when he could deliver the ball, but he just took stupid sack after stupid sack when he needed to get rid of the ball...basically cost us points.  He was a bit bone-headed and frustrating to watch.

Ewer throws hard, but your guess is as good as mine as to where it's gonna go.

I think one of our new receivers (maybe it was Washington) looked pretty good.

Overall, mixed bag -- result doesn't matter, but I was kind of perplexed as to how to play that game out with the best chance to win.

I liked how decisive Ewers was. He didn't connect a lot, but at least he wasn't afraid to throw the ball, unlike Wilson who was responsible for all 4 sacks as he just stood there scanning the field while the pocket collapsed. He looked Ok when someone was wide open but if no one was open he just stood there and took the sack. Ewers will need some time with the players to get on the same page with them. Wilson has been in the league and has too many games under his belt to not have an internal clock then tells him to get rid of the ball or throw someone open. Those 2 fumbles by Ewers are bad, but he's still learning, so I'm not going to get too worried about that. I saw some articles about how he might not make the 53 man roster. Please. The guy has already made the team, Miami HAS to keep 3 QB's on the roster as Tua is one scramble away from being on the sidelines at any given moment.

I didn't like the way that Jaylen Wright ran the ball, he doesn't have good vision. He's terrific when it breaks open for him, but more often than not he's putting on the brakes because he doesn't see the hole developing, thought both Mattison and Gordon looked better on short yardage runs.

It's just one game and hard to tell much from a preaseason game but I thought Miami played decent enough especially in the trenches which is what I was looking for.

Our special teams looked pretty special. I can't remember them ever looking better. It was a very welcomed change.

I thought Wilson played liked his camp reports. He makes great throws and then really bad throws.

I think Ewers looked like a rookie playing with 3 and 4s.  Started out with obvious nerves but I look forward to seeing him with better players. He wasn't perfect but the receivers didn't help him at all.

I really liked what I saw from Ollie Gordon II. He seems to be the physical back we have been missing.

The oline and defensive backs are not very good but that's been reported over and over. I guess Chris Grier thinks he bought some magic beans and is waiting for them to grow. Starters are suspect but backups are downright bad.

Mattison out for season but will be ok. Terrible loss.

He could have been our 2nd best RB. He's been tearing it up. So sad to see him land on his head.

I saw someone breakdown Kenneth Grant's play and I thought he looked really good. He's much more than just a run stopper, he's able to shed blocks and get to the QB which if he can continue to do that will make him a great choice because that's where there were some concerns by some people that did analysis on the pick.

We have all the tools for an absolutely monster defensive line if they can all stay healthy.

Chop just got carted off the field,
He's not a Dolphins pass rusher until he's had a season ending injury. Just ask Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb. Damn you curse of the ugly uniforms!

Looks like he is ok but I do believe we are a cursed franchise.

From all reports we looked pretty bad in the first scrimmage with some saying the most lopsided scrimmage they have ever seen. Looks like we are hell bent on keeping up the soft image.

It's looking like a brutal season ahead. Most of the major issues from last year haven't been properly addressed, and it's already showing.

It was a lot better today. They said that about the bears and we played them to a tie.

No ... reporters were brutal yesterday. It's nice to see we bounced back. I just hope they learned something from it. I'm tired of them quitting against teams like the Bills.

I think the reporters are overreacting, we’re currently up on the Lions and looked pretty decent.

It's not just reporters, it's everyone in the media. They have latched onto this rhetorhic about how bad the Dolphins are and they are leaning into it. It's one thing to say that the Lions dominated a practice, even Tua admitted that it wasn't as good as needed to be, but it's a completely different thing to call it the most lopsided joint practice in the history of the sport.

Now that's not to say there's nothing to it, I do feel like we are looking at about a 9-8 season give or take a couple games on either side, but the way the media is talking Dolphins are looking to go 0-17. Can we try to have at least a bit of objectivity?

But I also kinda feel like this is the way the media approaches every story these days, exaggeration to the max and zero objectivity.

Yeah the coverage  has been hysterical, it will be fun to prove people wrong.

I might get burned but I see us 10-11 wins and a playoff birth.

I think you’re right though everyone just wants clicks and to promote the narrative that we are soft and McD lost the locker room.

We had a bad practice but we have some things to be happy about from the preseason games.

Don't read too much into preseason games.   A lot of the guys you see will not be on the team come opening day.  Preseason is where key guys get hurt because guys who are established are going half speed to avoid injury.   Meanwhile they are going against guys who are fighting to make the team and those guys go at 150%.   That's a recipe for disaster.

You mean I can't count the fact we tied Chicago but the Bills got smashed by them? Hahaha

I don’t but neither am I going to overreact to a bad practice no matter how breathlessly the press covered it.
