Title: Live blog Dolphins vs Bills
Post by: Sibster on November 09, 2025, 02:56:41 pm
Am I seeing this correctly?   Fins are up 16-0 midway through the third quarter and just picked off Josh Allen in the end zone

Tua throws his second interception of the game

It seems that more of the Dolphin wins are in spite of Tau's performance than are because of Tau.

Either the Dolphins are better than I thought or the Bills aren't nearly as good as I thought.  Tend to think it is the latter.

It's a bit of both. Buffalo had a bad game. They were coming off an emotional win vs KC and thought the Dolphins would be a pushover and they were wrong. The Bills are still a solid team, but the Dolphins haven't quit and played them tough and they weren't ready for it.

Miami has looked fine at home this year losing a close game the Patriots, beating the Jets, losing another close game to the Chargers and now beating the Bills. The only game they really weren't competitive in was against the Ravens when they got an emotional lift from Jackson coming back to the team. It's been on the road at the Colts and at the Browns where they have fallen apart. Miami still has home games against the Saints and Bengals and they have the Commanders in Spain which is still technically a home game, they could win those games if they play like they have at home.

The typical formula in games like these is a complacent superior team against an inferior team with a motive that makes it play above its typical level.

If the two teams played on a neutral field tomorrow Buffalo would be favored by about a touchdown.  Yesterday's game would be meaningless in determining the expected winner.

Here's the problem with sports analysis these days. Click on the below link.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl/there-s-reason-for-concern-after-buffalo-s-loss-to-miami/vi-AA1QaHV1?ocid=hpmsn&cvid=691281c1f2524b4bb83a6667c3b05e6a&ei=74

These guys are trying to talk themselves into Miami having a shot at the playoffs now. Here's where we are with sports reporting. After the Cleveland game everyone thought Miami was the worst team in the league. 3 games later people are trying to talk themselves into Miami having a shot at the playoffs. Neither take is responsible. Miami had a bad game against Cleveland, but they weren't the worst team in the league then. Miami had a good game against Buffalo, but they are not challenging for a playoff spot now. The reality is that Miami is not a playoff team, but they are not that far from a playoff team either. They are about a .500 team who's had a bad year where they have lost 3 games they had a shot at winning. Win just 2 of those 3 games and you are sitting at 5-5. That's the reality for the Dolphins. The margin for error for most teams is very small. A couple mistakes can ruin your chances for victory. A couple lucky breaks like the Dolphins got yesterday can serve up a win where you would otherwise lose. Take everything you read and hear with a grain of salt. It's never as bad as they say and it's also never as good as they say because everyone just looks at the most recent result and bases everything off that. Real analysis has to go deeper than last weekend's games. Last week I heard talk about Buffalo's win over KC as being huge. It was one game. The next week they lose to the Dolphins and people think they are in trouble. Whatever.

Upsets like these happen all the time in the NFL and they very rarely signify an inferior team's suddenly becoming a juggernaut.

Four out of the Dolphins next five games are against teams with a losing record.  Win a few of those and you will really see folks exhibiting unrealistic optimism.

If nothing else, I'd think this season is teaching people to take things one game at a time. In a year ike this I'll take each win as a celebration but not sure I would bet on similar results for the following weekend.

It is an odd year, some of the recently really good teams are not doing well (Bills, Ravens, Chiefs, Lions, etc); while some dark horse teams like the Patriots & Colts are doing really well.  Only the Eagles & Rams, maybe the Bronco's, are teams that were expected to lead their division.

Two things subsequent to this game that show this team is going nowhere, despite the win:

1) The ridiculous, clownish locker room celebration following the game.  Totally inconsistent with experiencing the game as a mere stepping stone toward turning the season around, as any team would if it had truly established the goal of righting its season and that goal was in turn determining its culture.  Instead this was the Dolphins' "Super Bowl win" -- it's good enough in itself to cause such a mass celebration because there is no larger, overarching goal the team is striving for.

2) McDaniel's engaging with Bills' fans on the street following the game.  Totally inconsistent with his position as a leader of men and the stature and demeanor of an NFL head coach.  That kind of character on his part is why he is woefully inept as a leader of men in his position, and it's why we see the kind of clown-like behavior we saw in the locker room after the game.  The team is being led by a clown, and so it behaves like clowns.

"everything counts except the final score, which is a fluke and can be ignored"

NFL history is littered with single games whose outcomes are meaningless with regard to the overall quality and trajectory of the teams involved.

...while in contrast, locker room celebrations and postgame coach appearances have a near 1:1 ratio to championships.

Strawman as usual.
