Title: Miami Hurricanes earn a shot at the National Title
Post by: Downunder Dolphan on January 09, 2026, 01:55:32 am
What a strange 24 hours...

The Dolphins sack McDaniel, and the Canes win the Fiesta Bowl for a shot at the National Title!

I reckon Joe Rose is going to be very happy today.

The Canes kept them in the game. I swear I was trying to figure out if it was OC Shannon Dawson abandoning the run at the end of the second half or the DBs who kept dropping INTs that were on the take. I'm not a huge run, run, run guy but when you are dominating time on a team with a high potent offense you keep doing it.

It all depends on who wins tonight.   If Oregon wins, Miami will win the natty easily.   If Indiana wins, Miami is in trouble.  Indiana is well coached and doesn't make the mistakes that Ole Miss, Ohio State and aTm made.   Not to mention Fernando Mendoza being a Columbus graduate and having a family that originated from Cuba, they will rig it for him to win it in his hometown.

I thought you were talking about the College Football Playoffs, not the QAnon convention...

Not sure where political hack groups fit into this.   You and I both know that big games like the CFP and the Super Bowl can easily be rigged.

Think about it.  You have a local kid with a background that pretty much represents a broad percentage of Miami's population going off and winning the Heisman, then coming home to play his last college game against the team he grew up rooting for and all the marbles are at stake.   The headlines and TV ratings would be nuclear if he won it.

No, the rest of us don't "know" that major sporting championships "can easily be rigged."

That's a fevered conspiracy theory from pathetic losers who don't know how to accept a loss.

If you really believe some of these games aren't rigged, I've got some mountainside property here in Florida to sell you

Your ridiculous conspiracies, like your facetious/fictitious real estate, are nothing until you show me proof.

Until that happens, I think the conspiracy (that's gaining traction) that you are actually a transgender leprechaun flat-earther planted on this website to incite chaos and sow disorder is a far more reasonable theory...

But hey, Faith and Begorrah, brother!  You just keep on being you...

Look no further than yesterday's Broncos-Bills game

I think the Bills got screwed but I also don't think it was a conspiracy. Refs have been screwing things up forever and do it at every level.

Agree every game the losing team makes about 20 significant mistakes, the winning team about ten and the refs 3 or 4.  Nobody on the field is perfect.

There are NO conspiracies here...come back when you have something provable.

Yeah, I definitely think that Buffalo made more mistakes than the refs did, I'm not sure the refs made any in that game actually. The intereception was a tough call, but not sure it was the wrong one. They were both fighting for the ball when they hit the ground and the defensive back came away with it. Is that clearly a catch? If he had clear control of the ball when he hit the ground and it was pulled out after, it's a catch, but did he? Was about 50/50. Could have been called either way and the losing team would have been upset if it didn't go their way.

Control and knee down as far as I can see.

Are the DB's hands on that ball? Are both of the receiver's hands on the ball? Tough to overturn the call on the field even with these pictures in my humble opinion.

You have to possess the ball through contact with the ground, not just the moment you land.  Ask Calvin Johnson.

That Buffalo/Denver INT isn't even a close call.  He obviously didn't catch and maintain possession.

Had the ball not been intercepted and instead was stripped out, nobody would try to say that was a catch.

Last night's game is proof positive the fix is in. The Cuban connection is just too much to ignore  ::)

Great point, Dave.

I went back and watched the replays in slow motion from both vantage points and it's clear that the receiver didn't have control of the ball even before he hit the ground. In fact when you watch the replay in slow motion the receiver doesn't even catch the ball at all initially, it goes through his hands and hits his shoulder pad first and bounces off of it and then he grabs the ball in the air on the points with both hands, but even before he gets to the ground you can see that he's losing control of the ball with his left hand and really is only holding the ball with his right hand. During that time the defensive back is also grabbing onto the ball and when he hits the ground the receiver completely loses the ball and the defensive back ends up with the ball. It's very clear watching it in slow motion that the receiver never came close to catching the ball cleanly, it was moving around the entire time and the defensive back has his hands on the ball as well and ends up with the ball once they hit the ground.

The call on the field was correct and replay confirmed it.
