Title: Super Bowl 60
Post by: Sibster on January 27, 2026, 08:03:18 am
Looks like we have a rematch of Super Bowl 49.  If the Patriots win, Vrabel will  make history as he will be the first guy to win a Super Bowl as a player and head coach with the same franchise.

And if they win Maye will be the youngest QB to win a superbowl.

Prediction:

Seahawks 28

Patriots 17

That Seahawk defense will dominate.

This could be a blowout in my opinion. Seattle has a great offense and a dominating defense. Congrats to the Pats for the huge turnaround but their road to the Super Bowl was relatively easy compared to typical teams. If I was a betting man, I would bet the farm on Seattle giving up the points.

This might be a first.

Allen Brown played for Greenbay in the first two super bowls.  His grandson Ben Brown will be playing in the superbowl for NEP.

Another Aussie is playing for a Championship ring. Bring it on!

I'm not surprised it's turned into a defensive slugfest going into halftime, despite the conditions for the game being perfect.

It's looking of having all the hallmarks of one huge play or big mistake being the difference. Seattle's offense has come close a couple of times - two plays could have hit paydirt, if not for an overthrow by Darnold, and a brilliant defensive play by Gonzalez (who is having a great game).

I would not be shocked if the first td by either team is scored by a defense or special teams.

Was anyone else half expecting a contingent of ICE agents to rush the stage during the halftime show and make multiple arrests for deportation?

I can honestly not remember the last time I watched a SB halftime show...   ::)

ICE deporting people to PR would be on brand.

The first turnover, and finally a TD - and one from an offense at that.

Barner had a couple of big catches this half.

The Pats have no excuses now, it's time to get creative on offense to get something. Anything.

Go for a deep shot, try a flea-flicker or reverse. They aren't going to win going with the status quo.

Maye's second turnover makes it tough for the Pats now.

Still a two score game, but time's getting tight.

There's the defensive TD, and that's the game now.

The Seahawks "Dark Side" has looked as awesome as their old "Legion of Boom" through all the playoffs, and delivered again today.

Congrats to Michael Dickson for being the second Aussie to start in a winning Superbowl team.

He had a damn good game punting too, and can rightly feel like he was a major part of the win.

Dickerson is NOT considered one of the 22 players who started for the Seahawks.

Technicalities... ;D :D

At least like Jordan Mailata he played a key part on the field, unlike Jesse Williams who won a ring as part of the Seahawks in 2013, despite being on injured reserve all season.

The Dark Side was even better than the Legion of Boom.   The Pats offense was pretty prolific this year but they ran into a buzzsaw against Seattle.   Seattle's defense is that good.  They get a stud QB who can take over the game and they will win multiple Super Bowls in the next few years.

Seahawks are one of the sneakiest great teams I've seen in a while.  They were quietly excellent, especially down the stretch.  Even their victory in the Super Bowl was competent, mistake-free QB play without flash, decent running, good special teams and tight defense.  It's just unsexy.

Sounds kinda like a certain Big Ten college football team that won it all.

Normally it is sexy. Their defense has been top notch all year and their offense boasts the Offensive MVP in Jaxon Smith-Njigba who didn't do much in the Super Bowl. I watched the Rams 2 games and another game and knew the Pats were in trouble. I've been telling everyone to take Seattle plus the points ... as most betters' have been doing as well. The only thing I didn't expect was that the Patriot defense was going to play so well. They looked pretty darned good as well and kept the Seahawks from blowing them out early.

I absolutely loved this game. I'm old school, I much prefer the game when the defense is just as important as the offense which is how both of these teams played. There was enough offense in the 2nd half to know that these weren't bad offenses, just really good defenses. That's what I want Miami to become. As fans we keep waiting for the QB that will take us to the promised land but honestly what we need is a balanced team. One where either the offense or the defense or perhaps even the special teams can win you a game. That's a fun team to watch because you are invested the entire time, not just when the offense is on the field.

I remember those times in the 80s and early 90s where Dan the Man would lead the Dolphins to 38 points and the defense would give up 41.   A good defense will create opportunities for your offense.   Seattle's offense was moving the ball in the first half, just not enough to get a big amount of points on the board.   But New England's offense generated only 52 yards in the first half.   That's an example of the defense dominating.   Not to mention, Seattle played disciplined, mistake free ball and New England did not.

You need a balanced team to win the super bowl. I would say the one weakness NEP had that the Seahawks were able to expose was the offensive line.  That needs to improve for NE to get back to the SB and win.  I don't know if that can accomplished by simply giving the two rookies on the OL more coaching and time to improve or if it requires some new personal.  If MV decides it is the latter than the Patriots have the cap space to attract a FA.

In recent years, a strong defense has beaten KC twice, Tom Brady twice, and now this NE team in the Super Bowl. There is no doubt a very strong pass rush can overwhelm the best QBs.

Even as much as a homer as I am I am not putting Maye in the same class as Brady and Mahomes.  But I don't think Maye was the issue, I think it was the oline.  A balanced team won the super bowl.

Counterpoint:

In 2022, KC (#12 defense) beat PHI (#3 defense).
In 2019, KC (#17 defense) beat SF (#2 defense).

There was a certain young QB in Miami who made the Super Bowl in his second year... only to never sniff it again.   For your sake, I hope that doesn't happen to Maye.  He's got Marino's arm and Montana's legs.

No, I mean defense: a team with a mediocre defense nevertheless used their superior offense to overpower a team with an elite defense.
So maybe it's not just about which defense is more suffocating.

Lets pump the brakes on Maye having Marino's arm.
