So, I didn't watch the game, but I've seen highlights of him. I've also seen a couple articles saying he individually had a solid game.

So, lets say the season goes the way we all expect it to, with the exception of consistent good and solid play with occasional greatness from him all year. Do you think they stick with him?

It was good and bad. About what you expect from someone making their like 5th start in 4 years or something like that. He's dangerous if he slips out of the backfield which you saw on the TD but he doesn't yet have the instincts to do that consistently. At times he held the ball too long before looking to run and other times gave up on the throw too early when he had a solid pocket. He had a WIDE open Achane with a blocker in front of him and no Raider defender within 10 yards on the one interception he threw deep into double coverage. Very poor decision. I also saw a lot of his passes tipped or blocked at the line of scrimmage. You have to find passing lanes as a QB. So there's a lot for him to learn yet, but he definitely has the skill to play the position, it's just a matter of him getting more comfortable and the game slowing down for him and making the right reads and such and the entire offense helping him out. The offensive line didn't do him or Achane any favors. I thought they performed pretty poorly actually. I thought the Offensive line would be better. They SHOULD be better and I assume they will get better, but they weren't good in this game.

Depends entirely on who is available at the draft slot MIA winds up at.

If the perceived top QB(s) are gone and Jeremiah Smith is still on the board, I wouldn't be surprised to see MIA pick Smith and roll with Willis for another year (unless he completely implodes this season).

Honestly I feel like if we win just enough to be outside the top 3-4 QBs this year then rebuild is doomed already.

I listened to the first half, he didn’t sound great although the loss is hardly solely on him.


I just don’t think he’s gonna be the guy. I mean he’s on a talentless team but I feel like signing him was a mistake when we could have saved money and just lost with Ewers.

The only way Mia is going to not be able to draft one of the top 3-4 QBs is for Willis to play like a franchise QB. 

I think you’re right and hope so. If Willis balls out fine we got our guy but I just don’t want another 6/7/8 win season if not.

In order to have a 6/7/8 win season,  Willis will have to "ball out".

Maybe but I think we can get get there with some luck and just above average play. Didn’t Matt Moore give us enough wins to miss out on Luck?

You had other talent on the team.  It's not like you can win games with average QB play on the strength of defense and special teams. 

I wouldn’t say the team was brimming with talent, but point taken.

I waited until I saw a full game to tape to comment on this...

... now that I have, the first impression is that I am not sold on him being our QB at the end of this season.

He goes through his progressions too slow (Tua before his concussions was the opposite, which sold a few like me early on). He makes poor decisions. He has happy feet.

This may go back to lack of confidence in his protection, or coaching. Almost all of his run plays seem unplanned. His throwing under pressure is really erratic. The run to the edge and take a sack in negative territory instead of throwing the ball away against San Francisco was the most obvious example, but there were more than that.

If he is going to play this way, then our coaches should plan around it. John Fox did that for Tebow at Denver - he hated it - but it got the best out of him before they traded for Manning.

Unfortunately, I think our coaches have to deliberately dumb the game down to suit our QB (and a whole bunch of rookies and other lowly paid players) until they get their confidence up. Give Willis a one read or go license, or just straight up design more pure runs for him to open things up.

Early days, but is he continues to struggle this should be on the cards.
