Premise: A US Army Captain is hired by the Japanese to train their army to fight the Samurai, due to his experience dealing with "savages", in Native Americans.  He is captured in battle and held captive, where he learns that they are quite different than he imagined.

Rating: Very Good

This movie was pretty cool.  JTex is pretty right on.  Ninjas kick ass.  They wear all black and do cool flips and shoot poison darts.  That scene actually made me say "Yes! Ninjas!"  ...you're sitting there, watching the beauty of the Japanese countryside, and all of a sudden -- BAM! -- ninjas creepin' on rooftops.

This was kind of a classic story of crude weapons + heart vs. technology.

But, it was well done, and it had ninjas.

This movie is just another example of anything you can do, the white man can do better.  How long did Tom Cruise train before he started kicking actual samurais' asses? 

I enjoyed this movie as well and thought it was pretty sweet when those Japanese guys jump T. Cruise in the streets after his return. And yeah after a few weeks or months? he gets just as good as the hard core Samurai dick who of course in the end accepts the round eye as one of their own. And yes Ninjas fucking rule!!! Love the NES Ninja Gaiden screen shot grizzle!

Cruise was already a bad-ass when he came to the Samurai.  Hence, why he was brought there in the first place for his ability to deal with savages in battle.

...and even then, he still wasn't better.  He got his ass kicked.  Bad.  Lots.  He eventually was able to spar to a draw...but never to where he was their daddy.  Compared to the other gun-weilding soldiers, though, he was the man.

Ninja Gaiden 1 was awesome.  Ninja Gaiden 2 was OK, and Ninja Gaiden 3 was great.
