Title: Movie Review: Planet of the Apes (1968)
Post by: GUATARICCAN on January 16, 2006, 08:05:13 am
Premise: 3 astronauts doing space/ time research crash land on a planet dominated by apes. Charleston Heston stars as Terry, I believe that's his name, the man who will change the ape society's forever!

Rating: Awesome! This is old school Sci-Fi at it's greatest! I was shocked at how entertaining and generally cool it was.

Highlights: Chuck Heston is so funny in his dramatic scenes, cause he was a stage actor and he goes waaaaayyy over the top sometimes. And Cornelius, the main ape after Dr. Zeas, is the vampire hunter from Fright Night, Roddy McDowell!

Word.  This movie kicks ass, and still holds up today.  You're also right that Heston is the biggest overactor ever.  They say it's because he's a stage actor, who never adjusted for film.

My dad used to watch these all the time when I was younger.  To this day, I still find the apes extremely disturbing. They gave me nightmares as a kid.

Personally, that's the sort of thing that makes a movie, or a book, or a terrifying life experience even more cherished to me. Give me nightmares? Bring 'em on! Make me glance an extra time into a dark corner, or turn the light on so nothing can hide? Oh hell yes...

Hi, my name is Sunstroke, and I am a Fearoholic. (HI SUNSTROKE)

I flat-out love being scared, a junkie to my core...but like most intoxicants, I've gone there so many times that I've built up a good bit of immunity to it. I've watched a dude get cut open in front of me. I've stepped off a helicopter right on to a drowned-bloated corpse. I've had the pointer of a ouija board fly out from under my fingers with so much force that it broke a window across the room. I've read or watched "most" of the horror to hit the page or the screen over the past 30 years. If something wants to scare me these days...it better be deeply and creatively horrifying, or fukk it...I'm not jumping.  :)

I was a huge fan of these lovies as a kid. My older brother and I used to watch them on Saturday afternoons on local stations. We also had the Mego figures of the characters.

A few years ago, they released a box set on DVD. It was released about a week before my bday. Laura got it for me as a gift. I watch these all the time!
