Title: Movie Review: The Longest Yard
Post by: jtex316 on January 16, 2006, 12:50:09 pm
So i finally got my first ever Netflix movie, and I got "The Longest Yard", starring Adam Sandler.

Rating: Good / Decent

I was thinking this movie was going to be a total shit fest, but it sold me when the multiple sports cameo appearances started happening.  There were also a few wrestling cameo appearances.  Here are some of the "name" people appearing in this movie:

Dan Patrick
Nelly
Michael Irvin
Bill Romanowski
Stone Cold Steve Austin
Kevin Nash / Diesel
Goldberg
Brock Lesnar
Adam Sandler
Chris Rock
Courtney Cox
James Cromwell
Burt Reynolds
Peter King
Chris Berman
I thought I saw Tony Siragusa in there

So overall I liked it, it was a good 2 hours.

Myself and most people I have spoken with still like the original better. I thought it was an OK movie though.

It was ok. The original was better. And there is no way Adam Sandler is a QB and a leader. It's just not him.

The original was such an amazing movie because no one had ever made that mix (sports-prison) on a big-budget level before, and the acting, for that time period, was excellent. One of my earliest movie memories is sneaking in to the Elks Theater with my buddy Dean Moore to see it because it was about football. We got about halfway through it before the manager came down to the front row and escorted us out. Between this one and Smokey and the Bandit, most of the kids my age were pretty huge Burt Reynolds fans back then. He was a grown-up that acted like a kid, and that = cool. Plus, as if that wasn't enough, he got to go home every day after work and suckle on Loni Anderson's major league yabos...the lucky dog.

"Welcome home, Burt...grab the whipped cream and come to momma!"

I didn't even know there was an "original", but I probably won't like it.  It's just like when a movie review starts out with "The book doesn't match what...".  There's a reason it's a book.

Jtex, you'll like the original.

As for the remake, it is a damn good one.

adam sandler movies suck ass. generic story line, generic outcome, junior high jokes, 0 laughs. My 2 cents.
