Before I get into this, I want to point out, that while I may not agree with some of your political views, I repect them.  I think that some of your views are nuts, quite fankly, but I will never let our differences affect how I treat you as people.  I expect (and demand) that same respect in return.  I encourage good political debate on this site, and do not want any of you to feel that you have to censor your beliefs.

That said...

I am on a mailing list of Dolphins webmasters that keep in touch to discuss promotions, linking, site issues, etc. and I was warned a month or so back about a member named "runtheball".  I was told that he had signed up to another website's forum, where he primarily argued politics.  When asked to cool it, he got very nasty, including calling one of the webmasters a "cunt".  I was warned to ban his IP before he got a change to post.

...but I didn't.

I do not want to censor people, and I think that I've done a pretty good job at welcoming those who don't share my viewpoints, be them sports-wise or political.  We'd had a few other "loose cannons" come on here and become contributors, and I didn't want to cut people off before they had a chance.

So, true to form, runtheball jumped right into the political forum, and to his credit, he never crossed the line.

However, last night he reported this thread to the moderators:

In it, bsmooth calls him a puppet....but I thought it was fairly mild.  This thread was reviewed by both me and UK_Dolfan and neither of us found anything that was against forum policy or even remotely offensive.  We took no action, but I saw that, having been warned, this could become a problem.  I returned this reply:

"Dude, chill out.
 
He called you a puppet.  Maybe you should avoid political threads.

I work too hard on this site in my personal time to have personal attacks sent to me.

So, there you have it.  I hope that nobody feels disenfranchised about their political views, as I assure you it had nothing to do with the decision.  Keep it civil, guys.

The moral of this story is not to tell the owner of this site to suck your dick.  Even if he's into that, it's a great way to get you banned from his site.  ;D

I totally get it, and it all stemmed from arguing in the first place and people calling other people names and people getting insulted, then more insulted when someone tells someone to "chill out".

Sorry to read that someone was banned.  Like Dave said, most people that have been around usually get the jist of things around here.

I also hate when people like this go nuts, because it gives the moderate right wingers like me a bad rep.

You know aside from Tommy's temporary ban, this is the first user I have seen (to the best of my recollection anyways) in the 1 1/2 years that I have been here get banned. Compared to any other board I have ever been on that is phenomenal. It just goes to show what a great site you have here Dave and what a great community we truly are. It's one of the things that keeps me coming back, and one of the things I really value about my experiences here. It's too bad not everyone can realize the value of this place!!!!! Keep up the good work guys!!!!!

Yeah, runtheball was the guy who had a "some other site sucks" thread as his first post here. I smelled trouble from the start due to that post.

I think we should ban all republicans and restrict this site to liberals, free thinkers, hippies, and pot-smokers who happen to like the Miami Dolphins.

I know you kid around, but as an Independent, I can tell you liberals are just as guilty of not being "free thinkers" as are conservatives.

I feel runtheball was upset that Lee is slacking on round 2 of the hot chick competition. For his tardiness he should be repremanded! ;D

The whole thing is too bad.  If runtheball can be taken at his word, he's serving over seas.  Kudos.  That said, nothing irks me more than someone in the military looking down on others as though people who aren't serving are doing something wrong.  I also detest the "I'm serving my country, my voice counts more than yours does" attitude.  A huge portion of people on this site have their time in and some of us (myself included) are decorated veterans of mulitple conflicts.

So if runtowin reads this - and you are in harm's way - God speed to you.  Keep in mind that we fought, and you're fighting, for people's ability to be free.  "Free" doesn't mean what is paramount to coming into someone's house and pissing on their floor.  Have some respect.

By Independent is that your party or do you mean you have no party affiliation. I am not affiliated with any party, but have mainly liberal views.

Having met the guy when he was here in Seattle to give a speech at some hi-tech conference at the University of Washington, I found him to be soft-spoken, mild mannered and respectful.  He just doesn't take a lot of crap from message board punks.... and might have a bit of a problem with authority.

Yes, an extremely knowledgable one.  He doesn't work in Washington D.C. for nothing. 

He'll discuss anything with anyone, but once he's insulted he comes out with all guns blazing.  It's discussing or fighting... there's not much middle ground.

I am registered as independent. Since I don't think it's logical to always vote along party lines (though I vote mostly Republican), I don't belong to one party.

It was certainly ambiguous in content; so much so that I was hesitant to reply to it or even mention it in this thread.  I was just curious as to whether I was the only one that understood his post the way I did.

Any man says that to me and they might find a cleverly placed finger on the side of their neck - just long enough to remind them that I know a few dozen ways to limit their ability to breathe without leaving any marks.  We'll see how the guy stones up after that.  I'm a level headed guy that has trained my whole life so I don't have to become physical, but there are certain levels of respect I won't live without.  I detest people that are one way behind the comfort of a computer screen (ten feet tall and bullet proof) and completely different in real life.

RTB is definitely passionate about the politics.  Politics and religion....two topics that are destined to get heated if you disagree.

If that's the case, then it doesn't take much to piss off RTB.  That said, I agree that you can't compare the two.

Okay - allow me to clarify at this point:  if RTW is going to include himself in a heated discussion in which he is called a puppet, and his level of respect is bruised to the same extent of a person who is told to "suck my dick" - RTW's skin is way too thin.

You implied that I thought one insult was comparable to the other - right?  All I meant is that RTB might have felt disrespected.  

For some reason I'm having significantly more trouble than usual getting my INTENDED points across in this forum.   It wasn't unexpected when the resident penis-heads did it, but a couple non penis-head members have done it too.  If I had this level of difficulty communicating in all forums across the internet then I would need a run_to_win to English dictionary.

Crayons are always a good way to drive your point home and should be used whenever possible.  Plus, it gives you the chance to show off your artistic skills as well as placate the little boy that lives within all of us.

A bit but nothing that was too big a deal though.  Nothing worth getting upset about.  Their reactions to my fighting back did take over an entire thread or two though.
