Title: Cellular Phones
Post by: Dave Gray on February 08, 2006, 12:48:42 pm
I just got a Treo 650.  I had the 600 and it crapped out, so they gave me a 650 for free.  So far, I like it a lot, but have questions.  Does anyone else have this?

If not, what kind of phone do you have and do you like it?

i have "america's cellphone"...the good 'ol LGVX6000 that EVERYONE and their mother has.  2 years, no problemos (except the few drunken times it ended up getting reallly wet somehow)

Motorola i265...the kind of phone you give a 5th grader.  It's paid for by work, though, so no complaints.  Nextel service, on the other hand... >:(

ha!

you have the i265?

Realistically, do you hate it?  I like to hear what people think of my designs...

No, I don't hate it.  It's actually a solid little phone.  It obviously doesn't have many bells and whistles (hence the 5th grader crack - it's not hot like the "Razr" or "blackberry"), but that's fine by me, since I wanted a phone, not a gadget that also places calls.  My complaint lately is with Nextel's "swiss cheese network"

Nextel's network sucks.  Agreed.  I drop calls several times a day.

The phone is an entry-level bare bones phone.  The i275 is the same phone with a camera.

Glad you like it, its one of our top sellers.  Did you ever notice that the keys squeak when you push them?

I have some crap Audiovox from a couple of years ago.  It was free, so I don't care.

I forget to carry my cell phone on most days.

If I had the money, I would get either the pink RAZR or that new little Motorola I saw on tv the other day.  I'm sure Verizon will get that one when hell freezes over.

(I like Verizon's service, but I hate their choice of phones. It seems they're always the last ones to get stuff.)

See?  Scar Man's phone is what I call a gadget that also happens to makes calls.  Don't get me wrong; it's awesome, I wouldn't mind having one, but really, I'd never use 90% of its functions.

We put so much time and effort in engineering resources to eliminate that squeak.  Eventually some high-up manager told Nextel "if you don't like it, buy a more expensive phone"

I have a cheesy little Samsung A670. I have had it for a little over a year and in reality it has been a good little phone. It's small has a color screen, camera, and great battery life for the way I use it anyways. My biggest beef is that the cheesy speaker on this thing sucks and in order to get the ringtones to sound decent you have to crank the volume down but then you can not even hear the damn thing when it rings. If you have it up it distorts the shit out of it. My g/f has a Motorola phone, not sure which model, but with the volume blasted her ring tones come through nice and clear and I can hear this phone 2 blocks away. I wish mine were more like that but oh well it really isn't a bad phone!!!!!

That barely audible sound was really that much of an issue?

Yes, you'd be surprised.  Nextel whines about EVERYTHING.

Maybe my hearing isn't what it used to be, but that phone has to be pretty close to your ears to even hear that most of the time. (Unless you're calling from a "quiet room")

I'm about to get that one.  It is a beauty.  Because it has Windows XP with all the built in programs, it's very easy to understand the layouts.    Alltel sells the exact same model.  As an Alltel sales rep, I get to play with this as well as a bunch of other cool PDA's and phones.

I currently have a Blackberry

The reason I say I'm getting the PPC 6700 is because Blackberrys are about to get shut down.  Reasearch In Motion (RIM), the company that makes Blackberrys is having patenting issues with a Canadien company over the software.  A federal district judge is about to issue an injunction to stop them from operating until this issue is resolved.    This will cripple a lot of businesses as well as the government.  Alltel, I think, will offer a Palm Treo 650 or a PPC 6700 to Blackberry owners if this does happen.

I also have the following phones:

Business-  Motorola V710 with Bluetooth Headset

Personal-  Nokia 6255I (takes AMAZING pictures, some of which I've posted here)

I use almost all the features. I guess it depends what you use it for.

I'm a salesman, so I use it alot for contact management and reminders.

I also use it to play phatty ass games like Arvale II: Ocean of Time

I have a Motorola V710 (Verizon).  I use it as an MP3 player, and I use the Bluetooth DUN to browse the internet on my laptop at work.

I've had it since summer 2003.  I'm thinking about switching to a GSM phone/network next.

Unless you travel a lot overseas or spend most of your time in a big city, I would not recommend a GSM phone.  CDMA phones like Verizon and Alltel get much better signals.

The beauty of the PPC 6700 is that it has built-in Wi Fi capability (at least Alltel's version does).  That means whenever you're within a 200 foot radius of a Wi Fi hot spot, you can turn off your browsing feature, turn on the Wi Fi, and your internet will work even faster.
