Title: My orchids (and a few other plants) Post by: Dave Gray on February 12, 2006, 05:49:35 pm My Dad has been into orchids pretty much my whole life, and since I've moved into my own place, I've gotten into it myself a little bit. I have been given several plants by different people, and have been working to keep them alive. Since it's getting down to 38 tonight, I had to bring them all inside. ...so I figured I'd grab some photos.
(http://www.thedolphinsmakemecry.com/images/dave/orchids/whitecactus.jpg) This is a white cactus, given to me by Sugarbush when I first moved in. She gave me a different cactus before, but I killed it, because although I didn't water it, it was outside and got a bunch of rain from the hurricanes. ...I put it in a pot, because it kept blowing over, but it didn't have a drain hole...so it rotted.  This one has fared much better. (http://www.thedolphinsmakemecry.com/images/dave/orchids/sickphalaenopsis.jpg) This is a phalaenopsis that my girlfriend had sent to my work a while back. My dad looked after it for a while, but it got some kind of bugs eating its leaves. When I took it back, after getting settled, it was getting too much sun and the leaves withered. Since then, I've installed some hooks out of direct sun, and it's getting better. You can see that it's just about to bloom. (http://www.thedolphinsmakemecry.com/images/dave/orchids/seedlings.jpg) These are little seedlings that I got today from a show. They should be pretty much full size in a year, if I don't kill them. (http://www.thedolphinsmakemecry.com/images/dave/orchids/phalaenopsis.jpg) My Dad gave this plant to me when I first moved in. It also got too much sun and withered a bit, but I've been able to bring it back, and it's getting ready to bloom in two spots. (http://www.thedolphinsmakemecry.com/images/dave/orchids/bigphalaenopsis.jpg) My Dad just brought this one over as a gift for helping him out. He has had it for a while. It is probably my best plant, but I can't take credit for it. (http://www.thedolphinsmakemecry.com/images/dave/orchids/chrissyorange.jpg) My Mom got this one today for Ms. Dave, because she thought it was pretty. (http://www.thedolphinsmakemecry.com/images/dave/orchids/goldenfantasy.jpg) This one was purchased today at the show, to make up for the spot in full sun where the other plants were. (http://www.thedolphinsmakemecry.com/images/dave/orchids/antplant.jpg) Here's another gift from Sugarbush. It's called an ant plant, because they crawl into those bulb things and live. I think it may be getting too much wind and drying out. (http://www.thedolphinsmakemecry.com/images/dave/orchids/alexdendrobium.jpg) This is a dendrobrium given to me by my nephew for Christmas. The sun has been a little much for it, but it's done okay, and I'm making sure to move it around as much as I can. I hope you help me get a plant or two when my house is done... ...I can't say I'd take pictures and post them on the web, but its a pre-requisite of having a home. You'll know. It will be next year, and I'll be spending MUCH less time here. ;D Title: Re: My orchids (and a few other plants) Post by: sugarbush on February 14, 2006, 10:41:45 am Brian:
