It sucks when a long-time sportscaster dies, regardless of team.  He started in 1944.

Curt was so much more than a Red Sox announcer, he did it all.  Olympics, Super Bowls, World Series.  The high light of my professional career was being in the booth last season with Jerrry and Don and Curt - and they asked Curt to call the 7th inning.  It was nothing short of amazing.

God speed, Curt.  You'll be missed.

The only broadcaster to be inducted into all three of the major (NFL, NBA and Baseball) Hall of Fames...and despite reaching the pinnacle in my three favorite sports, I'll remember Curt Gowdy most for hosting American Sportsman, which was a regular on our TV on Saturday mornings as a kid. My dad watched it every week, and I was usually sitting there next to him. Nobody made watching other people hunt and fish more entertaining.

RIP, Curt...

Maine, was this the guy who would sign off at the end of the last Red Sox game of the seaon with that "It breaks your heart, it is designed to break your heart" commentary?  If it is, could you post that one more time?

I'm met Curt Gowdy 10 years ago when he came to the West Palm Beach fishing club.  He fished with some of the club guys and then spent the evening with the fly fishing group.  He spoke for about an hour, recounting his favorite memories from American Sportsman.  He was a very entertaining and a real class act.

So long, Curt, you'll be missed.

No, actually that was my idol Ken Coleman:

"It breaks your heart. It is designed to break your heart. The game begins in the spring, when everything else begins, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings. And then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops to leave you to face the fall alone. You count on it, rely on it, to buffer the passage of time. To keep the memory of sunshine and high skies alive. And just when the days are all twilight, when you need it most, it stops.
And summer is gone."
