Title: I just MOVED my fishtank.
Post by: Frimp on February 22, 2006, 02:47:37 am
Talk about a pain in the ass. I moved it 20 feet so that it is in my living room. It only took 4 hours.

I didnt just move it. I cleaned everything spotless too. It didnt need to be done, but I figured what the hell.

Brian, I meant it when I said (for a big tank) to make sure that you set it up exactly where you want it.  ;D

Well, been there done that...I remember when I was nervous that my original stand, was becoming weak.I made a new stand,it took me around 8-10 hours easy.I drained the tank, took the aquarium down, removed the old stand, replaced it with the new stand, moved it 6 inches farther away from the wall, placed tank on newstand, and refill.....It also took my 2 nephews to help pick the damn tank up.(the Tank alone wieghs around 225#'s+30 #'s of gravel.)

I saved as much water as possible,so I didn't have to blow like $60 for salt.

Did I mention I tore the hell out of the entire house doing this little project?

I don't see Frimp moving it again,unless he's getting a bigger tank....

That one will stay put. It fits perfectly where it is now. We have a small livingroom, and we had the tank set up outside of it. I figured out a way that it could be in the livingroom. So, I did it. I saved all but about 8 gallons of the water.

Now, when the bigger tank (150 gallon) comes later on this year, I will set it up elsewhere. The 55 will either become a saltwater tank or a chiclid tank.

But, Lil B is right. The 55 aint going anywhere.  ;D

I'll post pics tomorrow.

I had a friend who use to keep like a 55 gallon salt water tank. He use to rent apartments and move about every year. He use to empty the water into a large garbage can he saved specifically for the move. I luckily missed the worst move as they had to get that can down three flights of stairs.

That's what I did,I used 2- 55 gallon food gradeplastic barrels saving roughly a hundred gallons of water, and keep the fish in there while I did the operation.

When I moved mine from Newberry to HHI, I got 8 5 gallon buckets, and I took all the fish to the local fish store where the owner individually bagged all the fish, and I transported them in a styrofoam container.
