Ok guys, one of the things that originally attracted me to this board was the fact that some of the discussions taking place here really caused me to use the ol' grey matter. My question today (as should be evident from the thread name) is who do you think is the smartest TDMMCer?

It's true that we're all at different points in our lives and education, but if you had to pick one, just one, person who would represent this board's opinion against another person, who would it be? I'll be very interested to hear your responses.

Honestly, that is a very broad question.  There are a bunch of us who finished college, and a bunch of us who didn't.  I'm sure we have an even mix of book smarts and street smarts around.  I'd honestly be interested in who's got an even balance of both.  Like Donald Trump said, "In business, you have to be just plain smart." 

I'm clearly the smartest one here, by far... ;)

I think Fau, Stroke, JVides, BeefStewart, and maybe a few others can give me a run for my money, though...

I don't know if he is the smartest, but I think Maine contributes a lot of value in all forums.

Yeah, I'd say Maine and Sunstroke seem to be knowledgeable in a wide range of subjects, so while I can't say who's smartest (other than me, of course  ::) ), I'd nominate them.

I checked with my legal counsel, and if I accept a nomination to be considered a smart fella, I lose my village idiot discount at Walmart. Thus, I must decline...

That leaves Maine! Heart like a lion, head like an egg. I say we stamp "mentat" on his forehead and make him answer tough trivia questions for our amusement.  ;D


...modified to add: On a serious note, I've met quite a few of this board's members over the past couple of years, and I am convinced that the majority of the regulars on this board are of above average intelligence. This makes sense, because intelligent people often prefer the company of other intelligent people. If I had to grab 6 people from this board to start a think tank designed to study a diverse range of subjects, I'd probably grab (in no specific order):

Fausto, Maine, Brian, Lee, Phish and UK

...and roughly a dozen that just missed the cut that I would employ as consultants.  ;D

Not only am I the tallest, but I must say that I consider myself to be pretty smart. At least in my book.

I think it is, without a doubt, Drew and Richard (although I couldn't tell you the last time either of them posted) followed by Rocky and RaptorsFan29.

Why? Because they are the youngest members, and haven't had their brains polluted as much as the rest of us.

The wisdom in that statement means that Philly's smarter than most...  ;)

(Sometimes people are tearing eachother's post line by line,missing the point of the post....IE Seeing each tree in the forest,but not the forest)
Generally stays on topic.
Brings a good knowledge to each thread
Sometimes the Smartest Poster,doesn't comment in a thread

I also think that everyone brings something to TDMMC,good or bad..regardless of intelligence...it's all in how you look at it.

My votes are for Dave Gray and Stroke. Very intelligent people, I love conversations w/ these two guys.  Honorable mention for Sugarbush, just cause her TDMMC name is from a porno we saw at the Adult Video Warehouse. Mad love baby! ;D

Here are my nominees, and why:

Fau - I hate to say it, but he's a Linux / OS10 nerd who scored 1560 on his SAT
Lee - This guy has 3 majors, and now is going to take the bar exam, which I'm sure he'll pass in flying colors.  Yes, 3 majors.
Brian - Engineering wizard that works 100 hours a day at Motorola designing cell phones that play mp3's and suck you off, but the reception is still horrid.

and, my surprise pick....

...pintofguiness14 - He's a secret agent for the United States Government, and is very well worldly traveled at this point.

Such a hard thing to qualify, isn't it?  I have seen everyone post something here that made me rethink my position.  run_to_win seems to be very smart.  I think Dave is right up there.  Jtex, although a ranting king, is very well spoken.  I think Sunstroke and Buddha are very sharp.

But it's easy to look at someone that formulates words well and state - "those people are smart."  I am amazed, time and time again, by Lil B's posts.  Sometimes hard to read?  Yes?  ALWAYS connects the dots? 

YES.

That man has some stuff going on upstairs.  We've got lawyers on this board, computer programmers, writers, nurses (ahem), former teachers (ahem) - is any one person really smarter than the other?  If I'm getting sued, I'm calling Househead.  If my pc is moaning at me, I'm calling Brian or Dave.  If I need the most amazing logo developed, using all that appeals to people on a subconscience level that non of us understand, ring up Sunstroke.  If any of you were having a full blown cardiac arrest in front of me, I like my chances of you coming out alive.

I don't think one person on this forum is smarter than another.  One of the reasons I love TDMMC and come back over and over - the community brings a little of each of us to the table to create one hell of a monster.

Um - and restoring a house and flipping it at how high a rate of profit?  I have more respect for people that are handy with their hands than anyone.  You need strong knowledge of so much to do that - along with a keen talent to just get it right.

It would take me 3 weeks to do what you could do in 3 hours.  My end result - it would look like crap.  If you did it?  It would be perfect.

3 majors all at the same time?  I have three degrees...but jesus...not at the same time.

The nuclear sub thing is cool. My ex-girlfriend's ex-boyfriend got the Navy to pay for college in exchange for his getting trained as a nuclear engineer and working aboard a sub. He's now stationed in the engine room on a boomer in the Atlantic Fleet. Pretty awesome.

For being around nuclear subs, I nominate Philly as smartest.

I'm with B on this one.  

Intelligence is overrated and sadly only acknowledged by one's ability to BS.   Most intelligent people are shackled by what is written and what is,  keeping them inside the bubble without exploring any other alternatives.  I don't rate someone's intellligence based off of what they know,  but rather how they apply their knowledge.  I can truly say I know some really dumb smart people, and that,  is sad.  

I feel honored that I saw my name a couple times mentioned. I was afraid I had disagreed with so many people at different levels that I would automaitically be discounted.

I cannot commit to a singular smartest person as everyone here seems to have their own personal skills. I like reading Main's Objective, I think B has the best original posts of anyone, even though JTEX thinks I don't like him he has great rants, Stroke always has great points, the list is endless.

I can't believe no one supports my nomination of Crass.

It is too difficult to just nominate someone for the smartest person on this board. Everyone brings their own little area of expertise and value here. Certain people excel in areas that others don't and vice versa. I have noticed that a lot of questions get posted here looking for advice or how to do such and such maybe and there never seems to be a shortage of informative responses. I try to keep an open mind while reading some of the posts even though I don't always agree because I do know that not everyone should not have the same opinion as I do...that would make life rather boring. I enjoy reading J-Tex's rants and D_Bronco's bullshit (although he can get carried away) but it makes it fun. I find Dave's reviews and B's posts and Photoshop clippings very entertaining as well. I also enjoy almost anything posted by Maine, Stroke (who never fails to have me laughing my ass off), Philly and Brian as well. Although I don't always agree with them I do find Run, and Spiders posts often get me thinking about the other side of the story. I know there are individuals that I did not list but I think everyone is smart in their own way and you just can pin it down to one person above another.
 
I guess I just love you all like I am some sort of big ass hippie or something. Stroke said it best when he stated that this very well could be one big as reach around thread!!!!!

Ummm, think about it. I lived in an encapsulated tube, always within at least  150 feet of a nuclear reactor for 3 years of my life. (The reactor is in the middle, and my sub was 300 feet long, so I couldn't go more than 150 feet away from the reactor in either direction)

Does the reaction that causes nuclear energy also cause your cells to go crazy when they split? How exactly does it mess with mitosis?

Agreed...Spider's a sharp fella, though I find his extreme hatred of my Niners a little distasteful.  ;)

I was actually just thinking about Spider this past weekend...so I went outside, found a spider, pinned him to the ground with a twig, took a magnifying glass and lased through his midsection. My therapist calls this a healthy misdirection of negative energy.

I just think I hate spiders...

You might want to ask a person with knowledge of a nuclear reactor. I was a Sonar Technician.
