Title: Just curious... Post by: Frimp on February 23, 2006, 01:54:38 pm There are a few members here who don't like football. My questions are...
Who doesn't like football, and why don't you like it? Just curious. Title: Re: Just curious... Post by: jtex316 on February 23, 2006, 02:15:53 pm I know 3 people - two are women, one is a big oaf.

Title: Re: Just curious... Post by: Denver_Bronco on February 23, 2006, 02:27:19 pm I enjoy Professional football so i can't watch Dolphin games.

So, it wasnt a pro team that stomped Denver's sorry ass on week one this past season? Title: Re: Just curious... Post by: Denver_Bronco on February 23, 2006, 02:31:14 pm So, it wasnt a pro team that stomped Denver's sorry ass on week one this past season? Denver used Week 1 as an extension of their preseason. ;DTitle: Re: Just curious... Post by: Frimp on February 23, 2006, 02:35:15 pm Denver used Week 1 as an extension of their preseason. ;D Oh. I see. That means their coaching staff is dumber than we all thought. First stringers playing a whole preseason game? Their starters were in when this happened. ::) (http://67.18.37.14/55/133/upload/photo-75.jpg) Title: Re: Just curious... Post by: Denver_Bronco on February 23, 2006, 02:48:09 pm Oh. I see. Obviously, it wasnt enough since the #6 seed knocked you guys off in your own house. ;D Title: Re: Just curious... Title: Re: Just curious... Post by: Buddhagirl on February 23, 2006, 06:39:55 pm I just find the sport incredibly boring. In general I don't like to watch any sports. I find it rather lame.Â
I don't understand how people get all wrapped up in teams and stuff like that. I don't understand why people care if the Dolphins win a game. What does it do for you? ETA: I could maybe understand the obsession if you played the sport, but since most don't, that makes it even harder for me to understand. Title: Re: Just curious... I would make the comparison to going to see your favorite band, but unless you're a Deadhead or Phish fan, you dont see your favorite band more than once a year. And, I don't see my favorite bands anymore. I could really care less if I get to see them again. If I can go to a show, and its close, I'll go. But, the obsession begins early in childhood, and continues to grow with each passing year. ;D Title: Re: Just curious... Post by: Thundergod on February 23, 2006, 07:57:18 pm The stereotype of chicks who don't dig sports (football) lives on, it is the way of life. I hope to God one day I find a woman who loves sports or football. But I don't think those creatures really exist, anyone have any sightings?

You've met all of my sisters, Carlos. They all bleed the old aqua and orange. You know they exist. 'Course, they're all married, but they do exists... I love movies, but I don't act. I love to read, but I'm not a novelist. I love music, but neither play any instruments nor sing all that well. It's entertainment. It's great times with your buddies before the game, throwing footballs around. We get to be kids for a few hours. That's the obsession, in my opinion. I love your pet name for me. ;) Title: Re: Just curious... Post by: GUATARICCAN on February 23, 2006, 08:25:22 pm I like football, sort of. I'll start watching when my Bears have a great year. DA BEARS!

WORD! I don't think this is a fair statement. I LOVE running. Not just watching. I run 20 - 30 miles per week so please don't say that I don't like sports or I fit any sort of stereotype. As a matter of fact, I'm running on Monday afternoon with THE #1 ultramarathoner in the world.  That's about as hardcore sports freak as you can get. I'm doing a 2 hour run with the man that just completed a 300 mile run and has run Badwater 10 times. I would say I like sports. Or perhaps, more appropriately, I'm atheletic. Some of us would rather do than watch. Title: Re: Just curious... Post by: Dave Gray on February 24, 2006, 12:34:33 am Running is not a sport.
It's athletic, sure...but it's not a sport. ...and it's definitely not a spectator sport. Nobody watches running. To be fair, though -- I ask this: Why DO we watch football? I have my answers, but really ask yourself "why we put stock in other men's accomplishments?" Title: Re: Just curious... Post by: Buddhagirl on February 24, 2006, 03:46:34 am Running is not a sport. What makes running not a sport in your book? I guess since it doesn't interest you, then it's not a sport. If no one watches it, then why are there 1000s of people (not runners) lining the streets to cheer on people in races on any given weekend? I am not going to have someone lump me in as "not being into sports" when I'm out every morning by 6:30 am putting in miles. To you it's not a sport, to runners it's the only sport. Title: Re: Just curious... Post by: Frimp on February 24, 2006, 03:56:10 am Its a physical activity. A sport implies teams, enduring physical hardship to accomplish a common goal.
I'm not saying that running isnt a major physical feat. It is. But, would you consider jumping jacks a sport? Or even swimming for that matter? No insult intended. Please don't take it that way. Title: Re: Just curious... Post by: Buddhagirl on February 24, 2006, 06:44:45 am According to dictionary.com:
1. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. 2. A particular form of this activity. 3. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively. 4. An active pastime; recreation. I think runnng falls into that. For true road races, trail races, and track & field events, there is a governing body that sets rules, etc. It is extremely competitive. Along with swimming. I don't see anywhere that it has to be a team. Are relay races a sport and the marathon is not? There is a team involved. Title: Re: Just curious... People love watching track at it's highest levels. Also why wouldn't swimming be a sport? I know a lot of you people don;t care for the Olympics, but those are some of the hardest trained athletes there are. Title: Re: Just curious... I guess since it doesn't interest you, then it's not a sport. It's not a sport because there is no defense, and the simultaneous play of your opponents do not directly affect your play. Swimming isn't a sport either....or Nascar....or diving....or ice dancing.....or snowboarding. My liking or not liking something has nothing to do with it. Title: Re: Just curious... Swimming isn't a sport either....or Nascar....or diving....or ice dancing.....or snowboarding. My liking or not liking something has nothing to do with it. Who made up these rules on rather something is a sport or not? That makes absolutely no sense. That would mean that you would consider ping pong a sport before you would running or swimming. Good thing the Olympics think they're sports. I have to agree with Phishfan on the Olympic track. Also when you get into the national marathons and stuff. People love to watch elite runners. It's an amazing thing to see someone that's made their body into a running machine. I'll try to post pics of my run with this guy: www.ultramarathonman.com I get to do an 1-2 hours with him Monday. I'll be sure to mention that people don't think running is a sport. Nice to see what a prop has to say about it. |
