I completely gutted and redid my bathroom a few weeks back. The after pics aren't that great, but just figured I'd share. It took me two weeks to do. It took so long because I had to wait for a buddy of mine to spackle it. (I hate doing that and suck at it). Otherwise, I would've been done in about a week. Total cost- $under $1500.
new shower/tub- $300
new Sink base- $200

Thanks. Brian and Tony saw my old house, which I had remodeled. I take pride in what I do.

I'll post more pics of some of the other rooms I have completed. I am working on the powder room right now, but have already done the Dining room and Family room (which is freakign sweet).

How well does the shaving mirror work? I shave blind in the shower, and some visual assistance would be nice.

My wife got that for me for Christmas from Bed, Bath and Beyond. It cost around $40. It works pretty good, but I do find myself cleaning it quite often. It came with a "special" cleaning towel, but it doesn't work so well. I end using a trick I learned from my Navy diving days, and using saliva to keep it fogless.

That's cool, Philly.  I'm working on the exact same project right now.  In fact, I just finished putting on a second coat of mud on the drywall before sitting down at the computer.  So far, I've gutted the room down to the studs.  Everything went except the bottom linoleum layer since I was worried about asbestos (1967 house).  I've already put in the jetted tub and shower, rewired the room, moved the vanity light, installed a combo ceiling light/fan, and hung ceiling and wall drywall. 

After I'm done finishing the drywall comes painting, installing the vanity, and tile floor.

I love starting a project, hate the middle part, but get off on the result.

By the way, getting the old tub out was a bitch.  It was cast iron and must have weighed well over 500lbs.  I had to take a sledge to it and carry it out in pieces.  Even then it took me more than a day to get it out.

I had that room down to bare studs as well. We didn't put in a jacuzzi tub, opting to save that for the master bathroom we are adding on in about a year when we add an addition. I had the same problem getting the old tub out, but the plumber who installed the new tub was a friend of mine, and me, him and another guy got it out.

By the way- no major need to worry about asbestos from that floor. (remember, i'm in the flooring industry). If the floor chips off easily, its ok to remove it. If its solidly down, don't mess with it. Most of the asbestos back in those days was used in manufacturing VAT, or Vinyl Asbestos Tile, which closely resembles modern day VCT (vinyl compostion tile) or the commercial tile you find in grocery stores and stuff. There might be a slim chance that  your lino was made with asbestos, but only if you were to grind it or sand it down would it pose a danger to you.

Unfortunately it is pretty solidly down.  Even then, I'm not convinced that it has asbestos.  In fact I'm pretty sure it doesn't.  But I'm too cheap to have it tested and don't mind covering it with backerboard and tile.

I have recently started using a shaving mirror.  The one I have is just on suctions and sticks to the tile.  I find it very helpful.

Interesting you went with a small sink area in the remodel.  I'm a fan of the large sink countertops.  Any reason?

A couple of reasons.
1. We found that base that we really liked, and it was not available in a bigger size

2. We had a pedestal sink in our old house, so we actually are working with more room now.

3. The bathroom isn't that big at all, so we felt a large sink base would take up too much room (the old one was monstrous)

4. We eventually (summer '07?) are putting an addition onto the house, and will be adding a master bathroom, so this bathroom will primarily be for Josh and any future kids we may have.
