Title: WBC: USA defeats Mexico 2-0 Post by: Sunstroke on March 07, 2006, 06:43:48 pm In the USA's first game of the tournament, Derrek Lee and Chipper Jones hit solo dingers to lead USA to a 2-0 victory over Mexico. My boy Jake Peavy pitched three innings of 1-hit shutout ball before giving way to Mike Timlin who got the W. Brad Lidge got the save. Most impressive pitcher outside of Peavy looked like Joe Nathan, who allowed a dink hit, but struck out the other three hitters he faced that inning with some nasty stuff. In the other marquee game, the Dominican Republic (Pujols, David Ortiz, Tejada, etc...) beat down Venezuela (Abreu, Miguel Cabrera, Johan Santana, etc...) 11-5. Big Papi and Adrian Beltre went big fly twice each for the Dominicans, while Cabrera (2 for 3, 3 RBIs) and Edgardo Alfonso (3 for 5, 2 RBIs) did most of Venezuela's damage. We haven't forgotten how you cost us a chance to defend our gold medal in the 2004 Olympics. Payback's a bitch aint it?
