Title: Patriots cut McGinest in cap move
Post by: Pats2006 on March 09, 2006, 02:20:36 pm
Do you think the McGinest will sign with the Pats or move on? He has been with the Pats his entire career.

Besides McGinest, kicker Adam Vinatieri, wide receivers David Givens and Troy Brown, tackle Tom Ashworth, receiver and punt returner Tim Dwight, tight end Christian Fauria, linebackers Don Davis and Matt Chatham and running back Heath Evans are free agents.

I think McGinest, Vinatieri, and Givens will definitely get signed by the Pats.

I say we dump Olindo Mare and pick up Vinatieri.  He can be had for less money and is more accurate on field goals.

I think we should cut Frerotte and sign Peyton Manning too.  And while we're at it, maybe we can go sign Chad Johnson....

There is no way we can get Vinatieri for less than Mare.  Vinatieri turned down $2M/yr. offer from NE to test FA market.  We don't pay Mare that much - last time I looked Mare is getting $1.4M.

What makes you think he can he be had for less money?  His 2005 salary was over 2.5 million.  Mare makes around 1 million.   You really think he takes less than a million bucks?  That's a pretty big drop for a guy that could help a team win some close games.  I don't know if Dallas solved their kicking problems last year, but Parcell might be willing to pay his salary out of his own pocket (maybe Jones can figure out a way to do that and keep it from hitting the cap).

Since I think Venatieri will end up costing the Dolphins more than Mare, let's spend the money on a part of the team that needs an upgrade.  Our kicking game seems okay to me.

OK, I didn't look at Vinatieri's 2005 salary.  I'm one of the mindset that kickers should not be paid more than $1 million in base salary.

...and I agree,  Mare isn't even worth that.

Vinateri will be a cowboy, should be our first free agent signing. The pats are fools for letting this guy get away.

If I were the Patriots and try to keep the guy as long as I can.  The day his leg falls off, is the day I would cut him.  The Patriots owe two of their Super Bowl wins to this man's leg.  Plus the Patsies wouldn't have been in their first Super Bowl if he wasn't there in Foxboro Stadium to hit that 45 yarder in fuckin blizzard.  I just don't understand how you let one of the most clutch kickers in the game, maybe in the history of the league, just walk off?

I think the Cowboys are going to offer Vinateri a shit load of cash. I just hope he stays with the Pats. Just have to wait. If the Pats let him go, BAD MOVE on there part. How could you get rid of Mr. Clutch?

I personally think Vinatieri is overrated.  Big time.

The best kicker in the history of the league?

Come on...

I think Vinatieri is tied with a whole lot of other guys for one of the best kickers ever.  Heh.

As for McGinest, I'm thinking he's going to be a Brown.  Crennel makes Cleveland a popular destination.

Yeah it looks like green bay is the frontrunner. I cant believe dallas hasnt signed him already. Furthermore i cant believe the pats are going to let him just walk. I still think the pats have a good shot at retaining him.
