Title: Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
Post by: Dave Gray on March 10, 2006, 12:34:01 am
Premise: Three schools of magic each send a young wizard to face off in a series of dangerous trials, and Harry is unwillingly selected to compete.

Rating: Good

I think Harry Potter is okay.  I neither read the books, nor care for much story outside of the movies.  As a movie, this was the best of the four.  I think this is due to the fact that the kids have aged a bit, and there were some good scenes about the awkwardness of dealing with the opposite sex.  The special effects were very good, as well, and the story kept me pretty entertained.  If I were a kid, or a huge nerd, like my girlfriend, I'd be all over it.

My only beef was that some things seemed to be "just because"...like they didn't really have a place in the story.  My girlfriend was happy to point out the significance of everything, and how it didn't translate over from the books.  I'm okay with that, for the most part, but in some cases, it left me wondering what was going on.

I'm a big fan of the books and even though I wouldn't rate the series as superior, so far I have respect for the movies. Too many book to movie ventures suck ass.

I have this on my neflix Queue... but since i return movies fast I'm on their shit list and it's just gonna sit at the top of my list with the designation "long wait" for like 2 weeks.
