Title: Damon & Prior injured Post by: MaineDolFan on March 15, 2006, 02:35:40 pm Last season while diving for a fly ball, Johnny Damon injured his left shoulder when he landed on it badly. The injury forced Damon to miss roughly 10 games off and on, and required pain killing injections. Damon complained during the offseason that the shoulder was still bothering him slightly. An MRI on the shoulder did not show any significant damage, however did show a potential need for it to be "cleaned out."
After going 1-7 in his last 8 bats in the WBC, and wincing after striking out in his last at bat, Damon has been benched as a favor to Joe Torre. That same shoulder is said to be bothering Damon. The course of action right now is rest, however this could be something to watch over the course of the season. Did the Yankees sign damaged goods? In other shoulder injury news, Mark Prior left training camp today to have his shoulder looked at. Prior had to shut down a bullpen session before he ever threw a pitch because of "sharp" pain in his rotator cuff. This is not good news for Cubs fans. Cubs first baseman Derek Lee is also out of the WBC with a shoulder injury. More to come. Damon passed a physical, so the Yankees had to know about his shoulder problems and were confident it wouldn't be that big of a deal.
They weren't happy about him being in the WBC, but everyone knew that. Especially Steinbrenner.
