Title: Something that needs to stop on TDMMC Post by: jtex316 on March 20, 2006, 05:31:41 pm I think we have something that needs to be stopped on this message board. It isn't a one-word thing, like cursing, and it's gonna need just a little bit of explaining, so here goes.
First off, this is a Message Board. We vent, we discuss, we set-up meetings, we ultra-analyze, and we bitch & moan. That's what a message board is all about. This message board isn't supposed to be used for "real-life" comparisons. Here's what I mean. Let's say I post "I hate Bruce Willis, he's a shitty actor", or "Dan Marino was a terrible football player". What's the point of continuing to reply with "Well, how good of an actor are YOU?", or "I bet Dan Marino could run CIRCLES around you on the football field". The latest post involved me and Denver_Bronco analyzing in fine detail a woman who dunked in a college basketball game. We analyzed the fact that she really didn't "dunk" like how NBA players dunk, she more of got her hand to the rim without grabbing on to it, or whatever. A reply was something along the lines of "this is coming from a group of guys who have never dunked on anything before in their lives.". BINGO! My question to all of you "realism" posters is - so F'n what? So you have the ability to continually remind us that we're not actors / NFL players / NBA players / Comics / General Managers of sports teams / Head Coaches, and that those professionals would be 1,000,000 times better at X then we are, because they are there and we are not. Do you think any current movie review critic on TV or the Internet could act themselves out of a paper bag? Do you think any commentator could really hang with the best players (now that they're retired)? Do you think that a GOOD PLAYER MAKES A GOOD COACH, or vice-versa?? So enough of the "Well I bet if you tried to direct Star Wars over George Lucas, the movie would suck 1,000 times more then it does now" stuff. You don't need qualifications to have an opinion on an area where you are currently providing an opinon. If we did, this entire board would be shut down, because that's what message boards are all about. If you don't agree with the opinion, oh well. I farted Title: Re: Something that needs to stop on TDMMC Post by: jtex316 on March 21, 2006, 10:16:33 am You can post "You Farted", but you probably shouldn't post "Well I bet if you went up against that guy on Howard Stern that can fart on command, that you wouldn't stand a chance in hell".
Title: Re: Something that needs to stop on TDMMC Post by: JVides on March 21, 2006, 10:32:20 am JTex, my response was aimed at Edgecrusher's statement that women's basketball was poorly played and whateer the hell else he wrote. I felt like the thread was heading into "women can't play sports" territory and I overreacted. I'm sorry I lumped you in with him in my response. I'll attempt to be more concise next time.

If you want to share your opinions here...then you better get ready for all kinds of answers, good ones, silly ones, stupid ones, nasty ones.... if you dont agree with my opinion, oh well. Title: Re: Something that needs to stop on TDMMC Post by: jtex316 on March 21, 2006, 05:51:41 pm Hey JVides
Yes, i did realize that. I just used your response as an example. There have been other posts, especially very recently, that this has been going on in. Yours just happened to be the one I remembered right off the top. Title: Re: Something that needs to stop on TDMMC Post by: Sunstroke on March 21, 2006, 07:48:51 pm I think creating an entire thread to address this issue is silly...and the fact that Joe Tex, Champion of the contrarian viewpoint, crown-prince of pessimism and royal ranter of the TDMMC Kingdom, was the person who started this is nothing short of hilarious. Careful Joe...your true sensitivity threshold is showing. ;) |
