Title: WrestleMania 22 - Preview / Predictions
Post by: jtex316 on March 29, 2006, 02:29:49 pm
WrestleMania 22 will be live from Chicago this coming Sunday.

WrestleMania is now a week-long event, with shows, signings, appearances, and something that the WWE started 3 or so years ago, a "Hall of Fame", which has it's induction ceremonies the night before WrestleMania and is televised (in part).

This year's HOF class is:

William "Refrigerator" Perry - being inducted by John Cena to the special "celebrities" wing of the HOF
Tony Atlas - being inducted by "Special Delivery" Jones
Verne Gagne - being inducted by Greg Gagne
The BlackJacks - being inducted by Bobby "The Brain" Heenan
"Sensational" Sherri - being inducted by "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase
Eddie Guererro - being inducted by Chris Benoit, Rey Mysterio Jr., and Chavo Guererro
"Mean" Gene Okerlund - being inducted by Hulk Hogan
Bret "The Hitman" Hart - being inducted by "Stone Cold" Steve Austin

Yes that's a shit load of people, and yes I agree they should only have like 3 or 4 people per year, and mid-carders shouldn't get in because they OD on drugs (Eddie Guererro)

Now some of the matches:

WWE Championship - John Cena (Champ) vs. HHH
WWE Heavyweight Championship - Kurt Angle (Champ) vs. Rey Mysterio, Jr. (I think)
Intercontinental Title - Ric Flair vs. Shelton Benjamin (Champ) vs. Rob Van Dam (i think)
WWE Tag-Team Champioship - Kane & Big Show (Champs) vs. Carlito & The Masterpiece
WWE Women's Title - Mickey James vs. Trish Stratus (Champ).
Vince McMahon vs. Shawn Michaels
Edge vs. Mick Foley in a HardCore match
Randy Orton vs. The Undertaker in a casket match (I think)
A six-man "Money In The Bank" match (winner gets to have 1 title shot, valid for 1 ful year, at anytime he chooses)
Some panties & bras bore-a-thon match

The Rock, Hogan, Steve Austin, and anyone who was anyone are all scheduled to make some kind of appearances.  Jim Ross was supposed to be scheduled to make his 2nd return to announcing, after announcing Saturday Night's Main Event on NBC a few weeks ago, but that is unclear.

Trish Stratus' rack is a weapon of mass destruction.

I don't see any predictions.

However, I predict that I won't be watching.

I won't be watching either but I'll go ahead and chime in.  Jtex, like it or not Guerrero is a Hall of Famer.  Eddie had a brilliant career in ECW, WCW, and WWE.  Eddie was a one of a kind talent who could have a five star match with just about anyone.  I think this is a classy way to say good-bye to Guerrero.  Also I think the Guerrero family deserves this after the way Eddie was used in the recent Mysterio, Orton, and Taker angle.

  Now, onto the event itself.

1.  John Cena vs. Triple H-  I like the "Game" in this one.  I think Triple H will have his eleventh World Championship.  John Cena as champion has not worked out as WWE officials have hoped.  Triple H's next run will probably be brief, because his wife will have a baby very soon.  Trips, will probably drop the title to Edge.

2.  Kurt Angle vs. Randy Orton vs. Rey Mysterio- I'll take Orton in this match.  It's been a long time since Orton's first run as World Champion.  Rumors are swirling that Angle could be retiring in the near future.  Orton is the future, WWE feels he's ready this time, let him run with it.

3.  Interpromotional "Money in the Bank" Match-  This match features three superstars from Smackdown and three from RAW.  I can see Rob Van Dam winning this one.  WWE failed to take advantage of Rob's monstrous popularity in 2001.  Mr. Monday Night, takes the win and the guranteed title shot.

4.  Kane and Big Show vs. Carlito and Masters- Masters and Carlito win this one.  Kane and Big Show have been tag champs for way too long.  Fans want something new.

5.  Trish Stratus vs. Mickie James- Ahh yes, the women's title match.  Mickie James wants Trish to take part in a little hot lesbian action, but Trish wants none of it (damn you Trish).  Trish held her title through her injury, so it's time for a change.  Mickie wins it and hopefully gives us a little after match HLA.

6.  Undertaker vs. Mark Henry- This is a casket match, Taker's specialty.  His undefeated streak continues at Mania continues.

7.  Vince McMahon vs. Shawn Michaels- Shawn will win this one, don't be surprised if Marty Jannetty makes an appearance.

8. Candice Michelle vs. Torrie Wilson- "Playboy Pillow Fight" match.  Candice will "win", she's the current cover girl.

I predict the matches will be fake and the outcomes predetermined.

I don't see any predictions.

However, I predict that I won't be watching.

I second that prediction.

I disagree about Eddie Guererro.

Sure, it's tragic and sad he died, and I liked him, but a "stellar" career in ECW and WCW?  That's a little too much, IMO.  A good, solid career, and OK career...but I wouldn't go out on that far of a limb.  His career took off the last 2 years in the WWE, and really starting in last year's WrestleMania where he won the title.

But it's probably the right thing to do to induct him now, this year, into the HoF, which actually works out - maybe we'll stop hearing "eddie...eddie...eddie".  (Attend a WWE PPV and you'll see how fast that gets annoying)

I don't think it's fair to put guys in to the Hall of Fame because of how many titles they have -- the whole thing is fixed.  The title isn't their accomplishment.  Their commitment to their job and their organization is, and Eddie G seems to have been as into it as anyone else.  He was a journeyman, but everyone knew who he was and he stood the test of time.

The fact that he died young just makes it easier to put him in.

The title is like their reward for working hard and being exemplary, or something like that.

Pats 2006 (and everyone else):

PLEASE PLEASE stop pointing that out, as if none of this knows it.

EVERY SINGLE TIME there is a wrestling thread, SOMEONE has to always say, "it's fake", like you've just solved a rubix cube in 3 seconds.

I was waiting for the comment here, and didn't think i was gonna get it...and then WHAM!

Maybe I should go into everyone of Dave's movie reviews and say "You know, movies are fake, why are you even reviewing them?"

So I'm asking nicely to everyone, not just Pats 2006.  PLEASE stop pointing out the ridiculously obvious in wrestling posts.  Thanks.

Also, i didn't have time for a review, so i think WrestleMania 22 was "OK".  Some dull matches, some good matches (like the HBK vs. McMahon match).
