Title: Movie Review: Scanners
Post by: GUATARICCAN on March 30, 2006, 01:55:29 am
Premise: A dangerous telepath tries to form an army of "Scanners" to rule the world and bring the "normals" to their knees. And the only one that can stop him is a reluctant Scanner with a mysterious past.

Rating: Pretty good

This is a great 80's movie. The famous scene is of this guy who's head explodes, which looks pretty freaking good for 1981! And the final showdown between the main guys is pretty sweet with all the veins bulging and squirting blood and what not. I've been watching a lot of David Cronenberg lately and think that he a great writer and director. It started with the recent viewings of The Fly and History of Violence. Next on the list is Dead Ringers.

I love this movie. It was one of my favorites growing up. I haven't seen it in along time... who knows... It might be horrible now.

I had never heard of this but it inspired me to read about David Cronenberg. Wow what a freak. Awesome.

Here's a pic of the poor guy who gets his head blown up, Enjoy!
I liked it so much I gave avatar Chewbacca a vacation.

Ahhhh, the classics! This came out the year I graduated HS, and I remember watching it on the big screen at the Elks with my buddy Mike.

Thanks, guatarican...this movie needed to be resurrected so that younger board members can view and appreciate. Cronenberg was the master of the biological / evolutional aberration theme in his work, and THOUSANDS of directors, if forced to answer honestly, would have to list him as highly influential.

Another great outcome of this movie? It launched the career of an actor who always plays a great tough guy (though I like him more as the villain) ...Michael Ironside
