Title: Manny Ramirez to retire!
Post by: MaineDolFan on April 01, 2006, 11:00:18 am
Boston is scheduled to compete in Philly this weekend, the final spring training games.  From Philly, they'll fly to Texas for the season opener.

Missing from the flights?  Manny Ramirez.

News should start to leak out soon from the wire that Ramirez reached a boiling point with Sox brass on Thursday afternoon after learning that the Red Sox turned down a trade with the Angels.  The Angels offered Vlad and Santana for Manny and the Red Sox demanded that the Angels take all of Manny's contract.  The Angels refused and the trade was off.  Manny flipped when he learned of the news, cleaned out his locker and left.  The initial reports of David Ortiz signing an extension is not true, when learning of this information Ortiz refused to sign and is reported to be demanding a trade of his own now.

This stunning move is expected to have ripple effects through the team.  Willy Mo Pena should be slotted into the starting left field position.  In other team news, Cy Young tossed 6 innings of no hit ball in his final tune up for Spring.  Jim Rice should start the season on the DL and, oh, what day is today?

This is huge news...I'm eager to see how this all works out, but I just can't see Manny retiring from baseball.

I think they'll find a way to get him out of Boston.  Because he grew up in the Bronx, don't be surprised if the Mets or Yankees make a run at him.  Especially the Mets to re-unite him with Pedro.

I just think it's funny that no one has noted today's date as a possible motivator for Manny's sudden urge to retire. ;)
