Wedding Crashers (2005)

Premise: Two buddies masquerade as family members to strangers' weddings in order to sleep with women, and end up getting in over their heads.

Rating: Barely okay.

While this movie was watchable, and even had me laughing at some points, I'm more disappointed than anything, as everyone seems to hold it in such high regard.  It's another formula movie.  All of the characters are a cliche, and nobody has any real depth.  While this is a braindead comedy, the best ones (Office Space, Tommy Boy, even 40-year-old Virgin) work because their characters are real -- and the inevitably "sweet" parts of the movie work due to the relationships of the characters actually meaning something.

I think that Vince Vaugn is funny, and most of his (what I assume is) ad-libbing worked for me.

Aside from characters, the plot was even more formulaic.  I knew the ending within the first five minutes, and I also knew how they'd get there.

It seems that there was an awful lot of stuff thrown in that didn't even get resolved ....or go anywhere -- like the Horny Mom...who would go after Owen Wilson....what was that about?  It didn't provide funny scenes.  ...and it didn't have to do anything with the plot, so why was it there?  I assumed it was going to have a big pay off, but they never revisited it again.

Again, this was an unrated version (which just means longer) and it showed.  There was a wedding montage scene that went on forever and ever.  And lots of stuff really drug on.

If you're looking to kill a night (and you liked the movie Big Daddy), you might want to watch this.

I went for a 4/5 rating for it, simply because there were parts of the film that absolutely killed me with the laughter (the "massage" at the dinner table for example).

I agree with the holes in the story, and characters not going anywhere. I get the impression that the Horny Mother was just there to bring the film up to the required length.

Believe me they did a good Job with the Editing, i've got the "Uncorked" version on DVD, and its full of even more bullshit involving the granny, and how the Mother trys to get it on with every new man in their house. Total shit!

Bad layout etc, yes definitely.

On the positives it did give me a good laugh, Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are a good combination, along with what i felt was a good performance by the Legendary Chrisopher Walken.

Maybe a bit bold going for 4/5, but it's worth it cos i laughed so much.

I have no interest in this movie, even though our company does all the online marketing for them and their movie production company.

Everyone here "loved it", but i'm pretty sure they kinda say that because they're our client and not too much because they liked it.

It has funny parts, but they're strung together so poorly.  I had several big laughs, but I also had a lot of "get on with it" moments.

I felt the same way! It was way too cliche, you knew he would get the girl at the end. But it was funny at times.

man i thought that movie was hilarious.  i saw it in the theaters, and everyonee was rolling in the aisles.

I know people who said this was the best movie they had seen in a while. I thought it was just OK.

I thought it was very funny, but it was very cliche.  But what movies aren't cliche?  Mainstream comedies are all the same.  Its the funny parts in the middle that make it good or bad.

I don't get the Big Daddy reference, though.  Just a random shot at Adam Sandler?

No, I don't have a beef with Adam Sandler (I actually find him funny), but I use the "Big Daddy" example, because it is the epitomy of a bad formula movie that people eat up.  Now, of course, it's long forgotten, but it was a big hit at the time.  The movie plot can't carry the jokes, and it's set up around a hot comedic talent (Adam Sandler) and a few big laughs, that are set up.

I thought that the beginnning of Wedding Crashers was very good, and there was a joke in the first 30 seconds that had me laughing pretty good.  The guy is arguing with his wife, and she says "shut your mouth when you're talking to me."  Vince Vaugn and Owen Wilson make a great face in their reaction, but it wasn't a slap-you-in-the-face joke.  That's more my style.  Wedding Crashers had some of that, but then ended up jumping right into the formula.

It got especially bad when they ended up at the house, where you had the horny mom, the freaky gay son, the grumpy grandmother, the sex-crazed daughter, the asshole boyfriend, and the uptight dad.  ....every character was one-dimensional.

I don't hate movies like this...I understand that they exist for a reason and they're a good way to blow an evening.  I'm just surprised at how well received they are, like people have never seen anything like it before.

Good point Dave, but i hafta say that whatever makes me laugh my ass off is a good way of passing 2 hours, and thats what this film did for me.
