Title: Dolphins sign S Deke Cooper Post by: DolFan619 on April 05, 2006, 12:27:29 pm Dolphins to sign safety Deke Cooper
By Greg A. Bedard Palm Beach Post Staff Writer Wednesday, April 05, 2006 The Dolphins will add depth to their secondary this morning when former Jaguars safety Deke Cooper arrives in town to sign a contract. Cooper, 28, chose Miami over the Carolina Panthers and Oakland Raiders. He joins Will Allen, Renaldo Hill and Andre Goodman as free agents that have joined the Dolphins, who lost three of their four secondary starters, this off-season. Terms of the deal were not disclosed and Cooper's agent, Joe Flanagan, did not return a call seeking comment. Cooper, at 6-feet-2 and 210 pounds, is known as a strong tackler. He will likely compete with Yeremiah Bell for the starting free safety position but can also play the strong side. Cooper started 10 games at free safety in 2003 and 12 last season at strong safety after starter Donovan Darius was injured. Cooper, the NFL Europe defensive player of the in 2002, had 58 tackles last year and had an interception for the third straight year.
