Title: Movie Review: Lucky Number Slevin (2006)

Lucky Number Slevin (2006)

Premise:  A case of mistaken identity puts an out-of-towner in the pockets of two opposing mob bosses.

Rating:  One of the best films I've ever seen...top 5 all time.

This movie was incredible from the first frame.  It had great opening credits, which always leads me to believe that a movie is going to be good.  After watching a movie this week (Wedding Crashers) that had such a predictable plot, this movie was the other end.  You're 45 minutes into the movie before you even ascentain what the plot is, much less how it will play out.

The direction is flawless and super-stylish.  The camera angles and settings are remiscent of Guy Ritchie's "Snatch", and do a great job of capturing atmosphere.  The story is solid, with the movie playing out as a cross between "The Professional" and "The Usual Suspects".

The writing, and use of foreshadowing is also fantastic, allowing the audience to catch in the dialogue when something means more than it seems -- but you're never sure what.

Every actor fits their role, and there is no shining star that takes away from the ensemble.

Until the credits rolled, I wasn't sure how I was going to rate this movie, which made it that much better.  I can't say enough good things.  I can only assume that it will be my best film of the year, and likely lands in the top 5 (possibly 3) movies I've ever seen.

Go see it.

On that kind of recommendation, how could I NOT check out this one?

I was going to wait for it to hit HBO so I could enjoy it in the comfort of my own home (read: can smoke bongs while watching), but I might just have to splurge and see it in the theater now.

It was more like Pulp Fiction with the flashbacks. Also the ending was a let down.

I went to a matinee today on your referral.  It was a great movie, although I wouldn't say top 5.

I'm glad you liked it.  I will have to see how it stands to my test of time on multiple viewings.
