Title: Ernine Simms (4-3) or Manny Lawson (3-4)? Post by: Dave Gray on April 10, 2006, 01:38:32 pm Most of us seem to think that the best choice for us is a corner at 16 -- possibly Jimmy Williams. However, the NFL Radio guys think that since we signed 3 corners in free agency that we'll be looking to get a weak side linebacker, namely Ernie Simms. They say that he's a Derrick Brooks-type player.
They also mentioned something that we talked about when Saban first came on: running a 3-4 defense, in which case they think that Manny Lawson would be a great pick for us. Saban and Capers are both fans of the 3-4, but we just don't have the personnel to do it right now. Zach Thomas would get plugged in the hole, and he's not that kind of player....and Taylor works from the weak-side end best. Since they're our two highest paid guys, we can't not use them to the best of their ability I wouldn't be against getting another linebacker, with the departure of Seau. Thoughts? Post by: bsfins on April 10, 2006, 01:51:29 pm I mentioned it in the prediction thread, that we could use a another playmaker.I don't have clue about either of the guy's..but I wouldn't be upset with a DB,a LB,O-lineman,D-lineman,or WR...

I think Jimmy williams is highly over-rated. In the 2 biggest games this year for virgina tech (miami, and florida state) williams did nothing. If i were miami id draft Antonio Cromartie. I've seen first hand what kind of an impact he has on a game. 2 years ago when they played miami he was the best player on the field. He recorded a 72 yard fumble recovery for a TD, and had a INT. If he didnt get injured that game miami gets blanked at home. Cromartie is 6'2 215 with 4.4 speed. Other than daniels, and will poole im not impressed with miami's secondary. Giving Will Allen that type of money was a huge mistake. Ernie Sims is a 4-3 linebacker, he can run from sideline to sideline. He's very instinctive, and can hit like a truck. But the LB position is very deep this year. I've heard possilbly 7 can go in the first round. Cromartie would be my selection at 16. He's the best corner in the draft. It's a shame he chose such a piss poor university to attend. :) |
