Title: TDMMC: VGB - Round 1 (Tie Fighter vs. 007: Goldeneye) Post by: Dave Gray on April 20, 2006, 01:51:58 pm Konami Bracket
Tie Fighter (1994, PC) Totally Games (http://www.ibiblio.org/GameBytes/issue20/greviews/tie2.gif) “Tie Fighter is the follow-up to the successful Star Wars based space sim, “X-Wingâ€. Putting the player in the seat of the empire this time around, it boasted notable improvements to the flight engine, graphics, and the HUD display. While the 3rd installment in the series “X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter†was technically more advanced, it was met with mixed fanfare due to its lack of a story, making “Tie Fighter†one of the best Star Wars games ever released, and a heck of a space flight sim. VS. 007: GoldenEye (1997, N64) Rare (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/0/00/GE007Control1.jpg) “Goldeneye 007†is one of the most popular games to be released on the N64, and is well known for having both an interesting single player mission, as well as a multiplayer deathmatch that was ahead of its time. The single player stood out for its use of stealth and the ability to play a mission in more than one way – in the shadows or guns a’ blazin’. It also did a wonderful job of capturing the atmosphere of the Bond universe, with music, gadgets, girls, and everything else you’d expect from the cool-under-pressure hero. The game is seen as an innovator and a building block to FPS games that came after it. Title: Re: TDMMC: VGB - Round 1 (Tie Fighter vs. 007: Goldeneye) Post by: Dave Gray on April 20, 2006, 03:40:50 pm I beat the game and got all of the secrets for being levels in certain times. Lots of unlockables. The JTex erased it all, and I had to do it again.
My favorite board was the 2nd Bunker. After I had all the game beaten, I could adjust the difficultly to where one shot would kill me, but my damage to them was the same. Then I'd play the second bunker level in stealth on 00Agent and try not to get shot. Challenging, but possible. Also, it was fun to try to play where all the enemies had rockets. Almost impossible in some parts, because they'd blow themselves up in other rooms and kill you on the other side of concrete walls and stuff. ...still...good times. If you're so good at GoldenEye, you should have had no problem unlocking every secret again. Title: Re: TDMMC: VGB - Round 1 (Tie Fighter vs. 007: Goldeneye) Post by: Dave Gray on April 20, 2006, 04:41:56 pm There was one secret in Goldeneye that was head and shoulders harder than everything else in the game. You had to beat a board (I think it was the Facility) in something like 2:12 on the hardest setting. 1st off, it was hard to beat on the hardest setting period, and rushing through it still put me at 6 minutes or something.
There are some tricks to getting into doors that are locked by making noise and having someone open it from the other side. ...stuff like that. Even when you knew everything you had to do, you still had to do it (which was damn near impossible) and you had to be lucky that all of the guys would be where you needed them to be in order to do it in a timely manner. Especially when it was released in the SVGA version.

Saves us a lot of voting time. :)

Unlike Excite Bike, which whooped the crap out of Ken Griffey's Baseball No fucking way! Excitebike rules, god is it awesome, but 007 goldeneye was.......I can't even think of a word. Not only was the single player campaign awesome, but the multi player was like nothing I'd ever played at the time. And just for the record I was "THE" Goldeneye master! Unbeatable in my hood. I'm a dork, I know. |
