VF4 beat out Donkey Kong Country (probably the biggest first round upset) and now it's just absolutely spanked by the turtles.

They were essentially pallette swaps of each other. The weapons weren't really any different (although people claimed that Donatello could hit further, I think that he was the same) and the special moves and sprites were all identical.

Donatello - Long Reaching Weapon Leonardo - Medium reaching weapon, but his slashes with his kitana blade seem to be the most accurate Rafael - Has the worst weapon, and the worst position in a 4-person scroller game (the far right), but he could do that roll instead of the "kill" move. If you got good at it, you could be effective with Rafael Michaelangelo - Pretty much sucked all the way around, because the nunchucks blow ass, but someone had to be him when you play with 4 players. Donatello, followed by Leonardo, are the two most played characters in TMNT. And they were only different in that some were better, not that there was a balance.
