Title: Movie Review: The Beach (2000)
Post by: Dave Gray on April 28, 2006, 06:34:44 pm
Premise: An off-the-beaten-path traveler comes across a map to a hidden utopia.  Once he arrives, he finds out that there is a price to be paid for paradise.

Rating: Good...almost very good.

I liked this movie.  I think it has an interesting underlying message and there is more to the story than just how the plot unfolds.  It is directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Millions) and he does a fairly good job at giving the movie its own style, but sometimes goes over the top with his cleverness, and it doesn't fit.  Those moments are few and far between, however, and what's left is a movie that has me thinking about it a lot.

Plus, the girl in it is supa-dupa fine and has a sexy accent.

the video game scene is ridiculous...aside from that, it's one of those movies that makes you realize that leonardo dicaprio is actually a great actor, not just a pretty boy.

I don't remember the video game scene. What happened there?

That's exactly the scene I was talking about with Boyle going over the top.  Basically, Leo talks about how his life in the jungle has become a game....they kind of mix this with scenes of him playing a game boy.  ...and then they actually show him IN a game.  ...it just doesn't fit the tone of the movie.

Ok, I remember that now. That was pretty cheesy. But, the movie as a whole was pretty good. Good story too.

I liked the movie. It was entertaining. And you are right, the chick in that flick is super-sexy. Stunning.
