Title: TDMMC FFL 2010
Post by: Pats2006 on July 13, 2010, 05:45:50 pm
Ok, whats the scoop this year? When are we starting? Have to defend my trophy. Just want to make sure I know when the draft and stuff are so I don't get shafted like I did for the fantasy baseball.

Let me know. I look forward to playing with all of you!

I want to make sure I'm in this year.

I will have the league set up this weekend...just been damned busy the last couple of weeks. I'll post the details up here as soon as I set it up.

Already claimed a spot in TDMMC FFL 2010:

Sunstroke
dolphins4life
Patsie
Tenshot

Assuming they'll be in as soon as it gets set up:

StL PhinFan
alk3hol
AZ
Brian
SportsChick
Hoodie
UK-Dolfan
Stink

Anyone else feeling froggy? Dave? Lil_B?

Yeah I will probably play again this year, if you can get my name right. ;D

My misspelling is worth more in Scrabble than the real way...

Besides, that is likely the biggest confusion issue in Dolphins Fan-land anyway...whether to use "Fins" or "Phins." Can we just get a consensus and have all of you folks use it the same way? ;)

I'll probably play since I normally play in 2 or 3 leagues every year.

I will be in as a filler only.  I would rather leave the spot for other members.  If its the day before the draft and you need one more to fill the league, count me in.

What Brian said. I'll be up at Disney doing the College Program, but can fill a void if needed

I gotta make sure I don't have any weeks where I forget to update my roster and have 3 bye week players going.

That one mistake has tormented me throughout the offseason. :D ::)

Title: Re: TDMMC FFL 2010
Post by: dolphins4life on July 16, 2010, 05:28:36 pm
Another funny story from last year.  In week 9, the day after Halloween, I set my alarm to remind myself to wake up early enough to update my roster.  I set it for 11, but woke up at 9 and went to breakfast and then the library to update my team.

I returned at about noon to find some rather scathing notes posted on the wall of my dorm room - this was the second time in the last few weeks that I had left my alarm on.  What's worse, I had just moved in the day after the MNF game versus the Jets.

One of the notes said....YOU DON'T NEED A FUCKING ALARM ON A SUNDAY, YOU FUCKING ______.  WHY DON'T YOU DO SOMETHING WITH YOUR LIFE AND STOP BOTHERING US?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

They may have had a point if I'm waking up early on Sunday to update my fantasy football team.... ::)

OK, I have the 2010 TDMMC FF league set up. I have it on ESPN again, and using the League Manager set-up this season. For an invitation, you simply need to PM me or email me (sunstrokestevens@yahoo.com) your email address and I'll send you a custom private invitation to join. I have it currently set up for 10 teams, but I have the ability to expand it if we need to go to 12.

I will sign in tonight. Why we switch to espn when we used yahoo for years? FF and FB?

Title: Re: TDMMC FFL 2010
Post by: Sunstroke on July 20, 2010, 06:09:03 pm

^^^ A few reasons, and these are in no particular order:

1) Easier to handle adjusting league size prior to the draft and any scoring set issues on the fly with ESPN than Yahoo.
2) More complete league history data using the ESPN league manager system than Yahoo (we're starting the LM system this year)
3) All of the other TDMMC sports games (Olympics, racing, golf, etc...) are all on ESPN, so wanted to bring the straggler game (FFL) over as well.
4) I flat out refuse to use Yahoo fantasy sports for anything, so a move to ESPN was the only way I could continue organizing and participating in TDMMC fantasy games.

I have to admit,This was probably high on my List of why I'm done with fantasy...I HATE Espn (ESPN, ESPNNews,ESPN2,and their Website),and if they stopped showing PTI,MLB games, and NFL games...I'd delete them completely off my channels list on DirectTV....

Sorry Tony.... :D (Sorry for thinking out loud to everyone else  :-[ )

Just a heads-up... Since I can't see the email adresses once you sign up, and since I really don't know a lot of your "real" names, if you sent me your email address and haven't gotten an invitation yet, please remind me.

Aha, a trash talker!!

Stroke, we gotta get this guy into the league.

The more the merrier...all it takes is a PM to me with your email address, and an invitation will soon be speeding your way.

Tepop...I hope you don't pull a Denver_Broncos on me and back away once you've tossed out such a nice little smack volley.

I used to talk smack, but I look at it now in much the same light as end zone celebrations. Once you've scored a couple hundred times, all you really want to do is toss the ball to the official, jog to the bench and sip gatorade while others sing your praises. ;)

I'll give you added incentive as well:  You don't even have to win the league, but if you join and finish higher in the final standings than I do, I'll give you 6 months of me not saying a single negative thing to you in response to anything you post up here. You know how often I rip some of your commentary on this board...this would be a 6-month free pass from the Sword of Sun.

I mean, it's not going to happen, but surely the possibility has to intrigue ya. ;D

Translation:  Tepop's mouth has well overstepped his abilities in the original smack post, so he'll make a little "ha-ha" and quietly slip out the back before he ends up getting embarrassed in earnest.

I'm up for a few bets with people:

How about this, Stroke?

If I beat you head to head, you have to change your avatar to a picture of Ted Ginn.

If you beat me, what's my condition?

Title: Re: TDMMC FFL 2010
Post by: Sunstroke on July 29, 2010, 02:12:54 pm
If you beat me, what's my condition?

Had to be a typo...I'm sure you meant to say "when" instead of "if" in that last sentence.

IF the fantasy equivalent of a planetary convergence occurs and you actually do beat me, you can take pride in knowing you've beaten someone with close to a quarter century in football statistics-based games, almost a decade of paid fantasy writing and one of the top-25 ranked fantasy gamers currently on ESPN.

Other than that, if you want to bet me, all you have to do is kick significant ass in TDMMC leagues and then ask me if I know of any good money leagues for you to get into. Once you're in those, then the bet is already in place. ;)

Until you win a TDMMC league though, I have to decline on the pride bet.

Fantasy Football is:

25% - Luck
25% - Draft Preparation
25% - Staying Active during the season (setting lineups, evaluating match-ups, considering trades, playing free agency)
25% - Insight/Skill

Fantasy football is pure luck.  It is not a game of skill....Well, you do have to remember to update your team I guess.

Therein lies the reason you're unlikely to beat me in FF. Luck is part of it, like any fantasy sport, but effectively being able to project individual player development trends, foreseeing playing time opportunities or fluctuations in supporting cast performance goes a long way toward winning consistently in fantasy football (or any fantasy sports).

If you'd like, I'd be glad to provide a personal example of what I consider "winning consistently in fantasy sports" to mean...all 100% verifiable, of course.

There's a reason my winning percentage goes up based on how many teams are in the league, and it really has nothing at all to do with luck. ;)

I came within one stupid garbage time run by Ray Rice of beating you last year.

Ahhh, the individual matchup win.

Ahhh, the "if it weren't for that one play..." excuse.

OK, how's this for ego salve:  At any time, any person can beat any other person in a single matchup in fantasy football, and it's usually one or two plays that separate boxscore combatants.

Feeling better now? ;)

I say it every year. Why don't we play for draft order for next year? Or a TDMMC tee shirt? Something? You guys allways say the same people don't play every year. But the most of us do.

Title: Re: TDMMC FFL 2010
Post by: Sunstroke on July 31, 2010, 12:30:53 pm

"most" equaling "some," and "some" not equaling "all" is the reason we don't do it.

Random draft order is fair to all, returning owners and new owners alike.

Anyone particularly happy or unhappy with their draft?

I could've been without the #3 pick (I had AP and CJ rated solidly above the other good backs, with nice cluster after that, so I would've been just as happy to pick a few spots lower).

Title: Re: TDMMC FFL 2010
Post by: Sunstroke on August 23, 2010, 11:52:44 am

Pretty sure 4Lifer was happy with his draft... ;)

I'm definitely happy with my squad... I got the "players I really wanted" and got a number of them at what I consider decent value.  Obviously we'll have to wait and see how closely the "players I really wanted" match up to the "players who are kicking ass on the field," but I think my squad will do fine.

Title: Re: TDMMC FFL 2010
Post by: Dolphin-UK on August 23, 2010, 12:32:21 pm
The auto pick did a decent job, but I'm slightly disappointed it waited until round 11 to look for a QB, and then took Ryan the following round. A setup snafu cause the 3rd QB selection when I think were better choices on the board.

Having said that, I think this squad is probably the strongest depth at RB/WR that I have had, and that has traditionally been my weakness, 2 or 3 viable QB starters and not much else.

I'm going to assume this is the result of a 10-team league and requiring playoffs to start in week 14. With 2 teams less, there are just fewer games and if they have to be stretched over the same period... well, that leads to byes.

Might be the result of going from 12 to 10 teams at the last minute.  This can surely be rectified.

Okay, looking over the schedule, there's something seriously wacky. Each team plays 10 games. That's just a wrong number for a 10-team league. The result is that each team plays one team twice and everyone else once.

Weird.

Stroke, is this something you can change in the settings?

Have you guys looked at the schedule?  Why are there 3-4 teams on a bye every week?

...and we have a winner on both counts.

I just reset the schedule...there are no regular season bye weeks. Regular season runs through week 13, and the two rounds of the playoffs run weeks 14-15 and week 16-17. I knew I should have reset the schedule when we dropped to ten teams, but figured the league software would automatically adjust.

I hold a one point lead in my matchup

Hightower's fumbles hurt my chances bad.

My opponent has Shone Green going for him

I have Chambers and the Ravens D.

Not looking good for me here.

I won't pretend to know what's bother anyone else, but for me, the number of menus is pretty annoying. I continually have trouble locating whatever function I want to find. I'm guessing that some designer decided that since the menus weren't really menus (but tabs), it would be fine to have many of them. The intertwined functionality is just a bonus.

ESPN is, imo, the easiest of all sites' fantasy platforms...Yahoo, CBS, etc... No idea about a Facebook fantasy football application, because the idea of Facebook fantasy football is so ridiculous it makes me laugh.

I do appreciate all the feedback though...

Actually the Facebook app is pretty impressive.  This is the 3rd year I have used it and it's gotten better each year.  I guess I just like simplicity over complexity.  It has everything you need without being over complex like the ESPN site is.

Title: Re: TDMMC FFL 2010

I'd say that one man's "over complex" is another man's "please give me more information, dammit."

It's not simply a matter of information, it's presentation.  If I can't find what I'm looking for then it really doesn't matter if it's there or not.  The problem I have with ESPN is that the simplest things like just setting up your roster and seeing what the projections are for your players and seeing who you're matched up with week to week are not straight forward.  I'm sure that once I get used to the system everything is there, but coming from other sites, I find them much easier to navigate.

Don't take it from me, listen to the others here.  I'm not the only one that thinks it's confusing.

^^^ I can't count Pats2006...he still gets confused on the whole "tying the shoelaces" thing. ;)

Just my opinion, but seeing as how we're into the season with zero chance of changing the host site, any time someone spends up here complaining about how hard it is to find info on ESPN FFL could possibly be better spent by that person in getting familiar with where the info is on ESPN FFL.

Seriously though it's no biggie, I just figured it being ESPN and all that it would be better.

I'm just one person, but this year marks my 35th year of sports statistics-based gaming, from the early strat-o-matic cards of the 70's to virtually every online fantasy sports venue of the last 20 years...except the Facebook app, of course. I've written for a couple (ESPN FFL, DraftSharks.com) as well. I've really never seen anything confusing about ESPN's gaming set-up, and feel that the way they present news, info, camp notes, rumors, etc... to be better than any of the other major fantasy gaming sites.

Just my opinion...

Title: Re: TDMMC FFL 2010
Post by: Pappy13 on October 01, 2010, 12:38:14 pm
^^ I guess a lot of it depends on your viewpoint.  You've had 35 years of doing this so obviously you've spent a good bit of time on it and you want as much information as possible and perhaps if this were a league where I paid $50 to join and was intent on winning, then I might see things differently, but for a no-pay league where all I'm trying to get out of it is have a little fun, I just want to be able to set my starting line-up, see who I'm gonna play this week and see the point totals.

For some more is better.  For others, more is just more.

Pappy, as someone with a LOT of experience with fantasy sports (having actually developed some years ago, in addition to participating in them for about as long as they've been available online), I can tell you unequivocally that ESPN's site is poorly designed. Usability is exceptionally low, it's counterintuitive and just poorly thought out. It reeks of "evolution" in the sense that the interface has evolved over the years by basically having more stuff stuck on.

It's NOT a question of too much information (although there's certainly less opportunity to f*ck up if there's less to present), it's just a poorly designed site.

That said, I'm picky with those things because I've worked a lot with design and usability -- and fantasy sports in particular.

And regardless of the quality, ease of use, "prettiness" or anything else, I refuse to participate in anything that requires Facebook (unless I'm being paid for it).

And regardless of the quality, ease of use, "prettiness" or anything else, I refuse to participate in anything that requires Facebook (unless I'm being paid for it).
I got interested in Facebook when my kids started college so I could keep up with them on a day to day basis.  After using it for a year or 2 and really enjoying it for just that, keeping up with my kids, I talked most of my family into signing up as well.  I'm Catholic and come from a fairly large family with 5 brothers and sisters.  I now have all my kids, my brothers and sisters, my mom, all my aunts and uncles, many of my neices and nephews etc hooked on Facebook.  I literally have hundreds of family members as friends.  Very few of my facebook friends are not related to me in some form or fashion.  It's absolutely wonderful just to say "Hi" to them, wish them a Happy Birthday, see some pictures of their kids, share a funny link or two on the internet or let everyone know that the recent bad weather in my area didn't cause any problems.  For that it's absolutely an invaluable tool.  I'm not a twitter person because I just think that 99% of everything that is tweeted is pure junk and Facebook status updates aren't too far behind but I think it's still a step up and I will often find amusment in many postings.

That being said, when I first saw that facebook was going to have a Fantasy Football App, I rolled my eyes and thought what a load of garbage it's going to be, but I had this great idea.  Since I had enjoyed playing fantasy football for years, I thought it would be kinda cool to introduce it to my family (we are pretty sports minded) so I started a league made up of family members only and used Facebook's app.  I was pleasantly surprised by the app.  It's interface was clean and easy to use, not cluttered with a bunch of semi-useful information.  It was fairly easy to customize the app to get what you wanted as far as rules go and yet it handled alot of the mundane work for you like setting up an automated online draft complete with player rankings that could be customized and such.  It was perfect for a what I wanted to use it for, to introduce my family to something that I had been enjoying for years.  And it worked.  The first year I had like 8 owners, this the third year I have 16 and have converted both my Mom and one of my Sisters into Fantasy Football junkies.  At a recent family reunion we had a large discussion on Fantasy Football that had everyone in the family laughing.  Every year Facebook has improved the app and yet it's still just as easy to setup and use as ever.  It's one of the cleanest, funnest, systems I have ever used and it's perfect for us because it's all just for fun and games.

One other extremely cool thing about Facebook's FFL app is that it automatically publishes fun stuff each week, like it will post the score of a really close game or it will highlight a matchup of 2 undefeated teams or just show the top 3 teams in the league.  It also allows you to simply click a button and brag about your Fantasy team for all of your Facebook friends to see.  These are things that don't mean a lot to die-hard Fantasy players, but to just some family members having a bit of fun, they are extremely important.

If you ever get the chance, check out Facebook's Fantasy Football app.  I think you'll be surprised.  I know I was.

FFL sob story of the year for me... I was facing Chris Johnson this week in seven, count-em-7, different matchups. Until 1:40 in the 4th quarter, I was thinking I was going to squeak my way out of almost all of those, but then with a 23-3 lead, the Titans left Chris Johnson in the game, and he broke off that 35 yard TD run in garbage time to add 10 points on the other side of all those boxscores. That one run flipped me to a loss in 6 of the 7 matchups.

The last matchup...I lost by one point, on the extra point by Bironas on that garbage TD.

I flipped off my TV and switched to hockey at that point...I was completely unamused.

My defeat was devastating.

Az and I probably played the most thrilling matchup in TDMMC history.  It seemed like he was going to run away with it when Desean Jackson had two quick TDs.  Then, I fought back with Gonzo's two.  I got some long FGs from Hansen to keep me close.  I thought I was dead when LT scored two, but I somehow managed to cling on due to Mason playing well.

I had Mike Thomas going, needing nine points to tie.  After Edwards got him to 88 yards, I thought I was going to win, but then Del Rio in his stupidity, began RUNNING THE BALL NONSTOP EVEN THOUGH HE WAS DOWN THREE TDS!!!!!!!

I was rooting so hard for Edwards on that last drive to complete just one more pass for TWO TWO measly yards to Mike Thomas.  That would have gotten me a tie.

If Peyton hadn't lost that fumble, I would have won.

If I miss the playoffs by one game again, that will be the week I dwell on during the offseason.

^^^ There ya go, gettin' all silly again. ;)

You have 3 players active in the Thursday nighter...I have 1. We'll "really" have a good idea who's going to win at about 11:00 PM Sunday night, when Hines Ward for you and Mike Wallace for me put the final stats in the boxscore.

Side note on this matchup: I have two key starters on bye (Aaron Rodgers, Greg Jennings), while you come in at full strength...yet ESPN's "not-very-reliable" projections have me favored by 27.

So, enjoy whatever lead you may get on Thursday night, 4Lifer... Heck, invite some friends over on Friday night for a victory celebration/karaoke-fest even. They won't check up on you afterward, so they'll never actually know that you ended up getting your butt kicked by 30-something at the end.

;D

Regardless, I'll still have a better record then you at the end of the week.

I was hoping for TDs from Mason, the Ravens D, and Gonzo last night, and I only got one.

The good news is Turner didn't get one either.

Your team looks much stronger at first glance, given Ronnie's struggles this year.

Fortunately for me, our records at the end of week 11 are pretty much meaningless. ;-)

I am a simple fantasy owner... I build teams that can make the playoffs, and then I take the playoff caliber teams and win titles. How much I score...how badly I beat certain owners, how much of a lead I have at X point of the season, etc...never comes into my play in my head.

I am definitely an alumni of JWBU (Just Win, Baby University), and the "list" of TDMMC fantasy titles I've won so far backs that up fairly solidly, methinks. ;)

And I'm on my way to 6-4.

Wow, I really had some bad luck this week.  Should have started Mike Thomas and Peyton Manning seemed determined not to throw a TD pass.

And the Buc's goal line stand killed me, too.

Playoff chances aren't looking good right now.

Should have started Hightower, too.

BTW, I hope we really don't have a consolation bracket.

If you don't make the playoffs, end of story.  Goodbye, season over.

If I don't make it, can I dump all my guys and start bench players in the consolation tournament?

The answer to any fantasy question that involves the word "dumping" is always a resounding "NO." You never do ANYTHING that can affect the competitive balance of a fantasy league.

Two thoughts here, 4Lifer... One, a fantasy brotherly pep talk, the other a fantasy commissioner's stern warning. Please consider both as sincere.

1) Even at 6-4, not only are you still over .500, but you're still in line for one of the 4 playoff spots. Are you having a manic-depressive kinda thing here? Super high before the matchup, massive depression after a loss? Chill a little bit, don't get overly freaked out about a single fantasy loss, and come back next week and get back on track with a win. If I had to drop a fantasy-savvy dollar on which 4 teams will end up in the playoffs, Team Dumass would still be on my betting slip.

2) If you (or anyone else) dump your roster in a TDMMC fantasy league where I'm the commish (which is pretty much all of them), three things will happen:

* First, I'll freeze the dropped players and place them back on your roster.
* Second, I'll lock your roster for the remainder of the season so you can't make any transactions.
* Third, with a significant amount of sadness, I'd regrettably inform you that I could no longer invite you into future TDMMC fantasy leagues

I truly enjoy having you compete in TDMMC fantasy games, so please...no more talk about unethical things like roster-dumping. I'd much rather hear the perkiness in your voice as you talk about how badly you're going to kick TonyBod's 0-9 ass next week.

Can you dig me, brother? ;)

It was just a frustrating week with:

- Marshawn Lynch being stuffed three straight times on first and goal from the one

- David Garrard Completing a Hail Mary

- The Bucs Defense stopping the Panthers on fourth and goal, keeping them from crossing the 17 point barrier.

- Peyton Manning not throwing a TD pass

I was just venting.

I'd never want to disrupt the integrity of any league, bro ;D

I got the W over AZ this week, but still need StL or 4Lifer to lose another game in the next two weeks if I'm going to be stealing someone's playoff ticket.

Nice little 3-game streak I'm on currently, averaging 120 pts per game over that span.

How do I factor into your playoff chances?  I think we are in different conferences.  I could be wrong though.

Four teams make the playoffs... The two division winners, and two wildcard teams, which are the two best records outside the division winners. In case of a tie between teams contending for a wildcard spot, the one and only tiebreaker is "points for."

With two weeks remaining in the regular season, the current division leaders are:

West: Florida Crackers, Wayne Stewart:  9-2 (likely) or 8-3
East: South Mouth Assassins, T.J. Lillo:  8-3

The teams in contention for the wildcard spots (with "right now" points for)

St. Louis Stallions:   7-4 (987)
Team Dumass:         7-4 (847)
Redzone Freakfest:  6-5 (1045)
NE Patriots:              6-5 (845)
Funk Soul Chicken:   5-6 (1032*) (*still has a player remaining tonight)

In short, 4Lifer...you do NOT want to end up tied for the wildcard, because unless you score mega-points the next two weeks, you'd likely lose the tiebreaker. Your best bet is to win the next two weeks. Get to 9 wins and you're locked in. If I lose one, you can lose one...but if you lose one and I win out...you'll be on the outside looking in.

St Louis still has a chance to catch South Mouth for the division, but needs him to lose at least one more (and outscore him by 78 over the next two weeks). If South Mouth loses both his remaining matchups, St Louis can take the division with two wins (regardless of points scored) or 1 win (and a +78 points scored margin).

If Florida Crackers wins tonight, he'll lock up the division, as he'll have a two game lead and an insurmountable 230+ points lead over all remaining playoff contenders in that division.

Hopefully that clears things up a little bit. If you have any questions, just let me know.

Now...as I put away the Commish hat and put on my Redzone Freakfest helmet, I feel obliged to tell you that we aren't losing any of our last two matchups, so you'd definitely better watch your six, because I AM the object in your mirror, and I'm definitely closer than I appear. ;)

First off, it's funny how we talk, (myself included) as if we are actually playing each other in football.  In reality, we are just rooting like a hell for a bunch of players.

Second, with no luck at all, Stroke, you should be able to overtake me for the playoffs.  I got no chance of beating Crackers this week, so you have the one loss you need.

Maybe, just maybe, Ronnie can have a big game.  I would be very thankful for that this Thanksgiving.

Also, I'm going to have go with Jason Hanson to have any hope here, as I need Ronnie Brown to get TDs, which means no FGs for Carpenter.

Finally, I'm blushing after seeing the standings you posted, as I am 7-4 even thought I have so little points.

I'm going into desperation mode in my matchup this week.

- No Thursday players.  I don't want a repeat of what happened in my matchup vs. Stroke when my team was pretty much dead after Thursday.

- Activate Vincent Jackson.  My only chance of victory this week is if he is motivated enough to light it up against the Colts, which hopefully in turn will make the Colts throw more and lead to good numbers for Manning.

- No Dan Carpenter.  In order to win, I need ALL my players to score high and if Ronnie scores high, Carpenter won't, because there will not be a lot of field goals.

- Crackers team is so LOADED it's amazing.

So when will my pending move clear so I can get Carpenter off my lineup this week?

Well I dropped him because he hadn't scored well until that point, but I thought someone like you might snap him up, when no one did I grabbed him back again and his rise in points coincided with Reggie Waynes decline :-)

The comment about dropping him was mostly because I was a little drunk and he was winning me the game  :-)

Well, Tony pulled off the upset of the year.

Anyway, I'm 7-5 and so are Stroke and Stl.

I need to beat Pats2006 and have one of Stroke or Stl lose.

If all three if us lose, I'm out of the playoffs.

Been a wild season.

Edit:  Cancel all that.  Stroke and Stl play each other.  So if I win, I'm in.

Well, I'm not feeling confident.  I'll have to check for an update on Adrian Peterson

Double edit:  BOTH one win teams won this week.

Just an absolutely wild season.  Just hope this year, the breaks go my way.

So if i win im in and your out, and if you win your in im out?

You would need quite a bit help.

First, you would need Stroke to beat StL to have any sort of hope.

You'd be 7-6 if you beat me.

One of the wildcards would go to the winner of StL-Sunstroke

The other would be 7-6 and it would go to points tiebreaker.

You have 935 points

StL has 1067

Stroke has 1162

You only have a chance of beating StL in the points tiebreaker, and to do that you'd have to outscore her by over 100 points this week.

Is anybody up for making this for money next year?

My idea would be:

1) Winning the main tournament:  $50
2) Runner up:    $25
3) Other two playoff people: $20

4) Winner of the consolation tournament: $15

total prize fund: $110

So we each pay $11 dollars, a pretty measly sum

It would give a whole lot more flavor to the consolation tournament, while maintaining everybody's desire to win the whole thing.

Is anybody up for making this for money next year?

Please feel free to start a money league somewhere.

...but TDMMC FFL is NOT a money league.

Is anybody up for making this for money next year?

My idea would be:

1) Winning the main tournament:  $50
2) Runner up:    $25
3) Other two playoff people: $20

4) Winner of the consolation tournament: $15

total prize fund: $110

So we each pay $11 dollars, a pretty measly sum

It would give a whole lot more flavor to the consolation tournament, while maintaining everybody's desire to win the whole thing.

I've been trying to set something up like this for years. Even  just a TDMMC tshirt but no one wants to do it.

^^^ Did you buy a TDMMC shirt when they were available for sale? Or are you just looking for an opportunity to score some free shit?

And...um...aren't you a Patriots fan?

I'm trying to imagine how many Dolphins fans on this site would wear a Patriots website t-shirt, and I just can't picture it.

As far as TDMMC becoming a money league? It's just not going to happen... There ARE money leagues over at CBS Sportsline, Yahoo and others that you can jump into, or get together with some of your local buddies and create a money league. It doesn't need to be TDMMC-based for you to have a great time playing it.

Problem with money leagues (and why I don't do them anymore) is often your money interest is different than your fan of the team interests.

Why is Carpenter listed as having 3 points?

He missed 1 FG

He kicked one from 50+ yards

He made one extra point.

That should be 5 points.

Correct... Carpenter scored 5 points in today's game. If ESPN doesn't fix it by Tuesday morning (99% certain they will), then I'll adjust it myself.

Looks StL and I will be glued to the tube Monday night for the last playoff spot.

I hold an 18 point lead on Pats2006 (really 20, when Carpenter is corrected).

So if Branch and Graham combine for 20 points or more, StL is in

If they don't.  I am in.

LOL, too bad we don't have  60 yard option in the scoring.

I was actually in a money league in '98 when Elam kicked his 63-yarder, and the league scoring rules gave extra points in 2 yard increments after 55 yards.  My opponent (my stepdad) had Elam active that week, and that FG was worth 9 points.

Personally, I think 5 points is more than enough for any drunk stupid kicker (thanks, Vinatieri) to make on one swing of his leg...

The dominant, 10-2 force that is me...

Got a great laugh out of that... God bless fantasy sports!

On a semi-related "force majeure" note... Here are our squads' scoring totals the second half (final 7 weeks) of the season:

Redzone Freakfest:   109 |  70 | 115 | 107 | 136 | 117 | 128  (111.7 fpg)
Florida Crackers:       117 | 112 | 108 |128 | 121 | 103 |  63   (107.4 fpg)

Call it a hunch, but if/when we run into each other in these playoffs, it will probably NOT be a low-scoring affair. ;)

Title: Re: TDMMC FFL 2010

Playoff update (just so everyone's clear):

West division winner and #1 seed: Florida Crackers (10-3)

East division winner and #2 seed:  South Mouth Assassins (9-4)

Wildcard A and #3 seed:  Redzone Freakfest (8-5)

Wildcard B and #4 seed:  If Team Dumass holds on to win tonight, he'll be in at 8-5. If NE Patriots wins tonight, Funk Soul Chicken will get the last spot by virtue of being the 7-6 team with the most "points for."

First round matchups will be:

#1 Florida Crackers vs #4 (either Team Dumass or Funk Soul Chicken)
#2 South Mouth Assassins vs #3 Redzone Freakfest

Just keep in mind I have promised a huge bonus to the Assasins this season, not for winning the championship, but for knocking off the Freakfest in the playoffs. It would seem that both teams have done their respective parts in making it to the dance now it's time for the SMA to slap you boys around a little bit. They have been playing all year for this moment and it's their time to shine!!!!  ;D

Summary of my three years in TDMMC fantasy:

1) Lost out of the playoff in the last week of the season after losing to AZ

2) Came within 1 stupid garbage time run of Ray Rice and 1 week of forgetting to change my roster so I had three bye week players going of making it

3) I lose out on the playoffs by 3 points.

Surely my luck should change next season, right? LOL

The unstoppable force that is me has been...stopped, by 2 points.

First, I'd like to thank Peyton Hillis for not being able to do a damn thing against the BILLS.

Second, I'd like to thank Stevie Johnson for not being able to do a damn thing against the BROWNS.

Third, I'd like to thank Roddie White.  ATL beat CAR down, yet White had nothing to do with it...thanks buddy.

Fourth, I'd like to thank Darren McFadden.  Homeboy had 30+ points!  Too bad he plays for the other team...ugh.

It's pretty sad when the opposing team has a QB with negative points, a defense with negative points and a TE with ZERO points and I still lose.  Fuck you Darren McFadden.

It was a great year guys.  I dominated this league from start to finish in the regular season, but shit the bed in the playoffs.  Fuck fantasy football.

I was wondering how much further down the thread someone was going to point this out, despite Darren McFadden giving me a two point advantage, I fear unless I get an awesome week next week you'll still be heading through.

I find it amusing that I could have played with no QB, D/ST or TE  and scored higher than my current score :-)

See the "week 14" and "week 15" links in your boxscore...and on the league scoreboard page? That means that even the consolation bracket matchups are two weeks as well. The winner of your matchup will play the winner of the Stallions-Patriots matchup in weeks 16-17 for the consolation bracket title.

I feel silly now...I didn't know it was a two week total to go to the championship game.  Still alive!

Title: Re: TDMMC FFL 2010
Post by: Sunstroke on December 16, 2010, 08:52:56 pm

^^^ Because playoff matchups are two weeks long. Look at the scoreboard and you'll see that it shows as two weeks, and if you look at your boxscore, you'll see in a nice tiday column, your total score, then your week 15 score, and then last week's score (the last two add up to the first one). You have one player active in tonight's game, and he hasn't score a fantasy point yet.

Hope that answers your question.

On a "slap myself" note: I committed a serious gaffe at a time when gaffes can't be had. I didn't get in to check my rosters until after kickoff, and as a result, I have Malcolm Floyd active, and he was ruled out at game time and isn't playing.

Ouch...

(lesson to be plucked from this... Even the most veteran fantasy gamers occasionally have brainfarts just like the rookies.)

Questions:

Did anybody have Feely last week and get credit for his rushing TD?

Or Stroke, has anybody in one of your leagues ever had Adam Vinatieri or Ryan Longwell and gotten credit for the TD passes they threw?

I looked in the boxscores and nobody from our league had Feely going.

I just want to say, if I had missed on the playoffs my first year because my opponent's kicker threw for or ran for a TD, I probably would have quit fantasy football forever.     :D

It is a very large hurdle, however, here are the reason I have hope:

1. MIN are starting a rookie QB, which means mistakes and a lot of T.O.P for CHI
2. The game is being played outside in the cold, MIN are a dome team, CHI....well, you know.
3. considering the above two points, CHI should take a lead and look to run some clock

On the negative side, Forte loses goal line carries to Taylor recently and also he tend to score a large chunk of points on big pass plays....

Put it this way, when I wake up tomorrow morning my phone will be stright on to check out the scores, but I think it's a little too much to overcome.

Well, tommorow will decide it all:

Who will take home the title?

It's been a great year.  I look forward to many more:

Couple of thoughts

1) The switch in format to espn was a good move.  I like that the fantasy season lasts 17 weeks, just like the real football season.

2) Every year I've been in it, a different person has won.  I'm interested to know the history of TDMMC fantasy.  How many years has it lasted?  Who has won each year?  Maybe we could add to feature to the site to mark each champion.

Thats a good idea. I still wouldnt mind playing for a tdmmc tshirt of something?? even if we all put in a few $$ to pay for the shirt?

Prior to next season starting, you should present that idea to the person who will be setting up the league. As far as history goes, the ESPN LM function allows for history-keeping for all seasons on ESPN. This is TDMMC's first season, so no history there yet. Here is what I can dig up from the Yahoo seasons:

2009: 1st: Brady Bunch  2nd: alk3hol  3rd: Return to Glory
http://archive.fantasysports.yahoo.com/nfl/2009/174666 (http://archive.fantasysports.yahoo.com/nfl/2009/174666)

2008: 1st: LasVegas  2nd: Stinkfish  3rd: Freakfest
http://archive.fantasysports.yahoo.com/nfl/2008/111782 (http://archive.fantasysports.yahoo.com/nfl/2008/111782)

2007: 1st: Freakfest  2nd: Lil_B  3rd: Lone Wolf
http://archive.fantasysports.yahoo.com/nfl/2007/392201 (http://archive.fantasysports.yahoo.com/nfl/2007/392201)

2006: 1st: Lil_B  2nd: Buc Stops Here  3rd: MUC
http://archive.fantasysports.yahoo.com/nfl/2006/99280 (http://archive.fantasysports.yahoo.com/nfl/2006/99280)

TDMMC FFL goes back to 2004, but those are the only league pages I see archived from my Yahoo player account.  On the current ESPN TDMMC FFL league page, you'll see a link that says "History." As the league grows its history on ESPN, you'll be able to click on that link and get to "all" the info from previous seasons. Unlike Yahoo, who only gives you a synopsis page for league history, ESPN saves everything...all old boxscores, draft recaps, message board posts...even past seasons' transaction logs.

I got the other two years....
2005 1st: AZ 2nd: the Force (was that Janet?) 3rd: Lil B
http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/tdmmcffl07/2005 (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/tdmmcffl07/2005)

2004  1st: CF 2nd: Lil B 3rd: Stroke
http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/tdmmcffl07/2004 (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/league/tdmmcffl07/2004)

All the years seem to bleed together, the one year I had to manually run the draft, which was fun...but only something I'd want to say I've done it....

So are you retiring from TDMMC fantasy?  Or just as commissioner?

So let's clarify this:

1) Is Stroke the commissioner next year?

2) If not, is he going to appoint somebody to replace him?

3) If not, then why not me?

4) If it is me, then there is no way this league is going to be for money

That trophy picture was good.  It's nice prize and the winner can print it out and put it in a trophy case.

^^^

1) No, I'm not.

2) No, that's for someone else to do.

3) A league commish has to actually read and understand the rules...before the season starts. Are you going to start doing that?

I had not realised how long we have been doing this. Better yet, I hadn't realised how long I have not played.  :o

Yeah, I've been setting up TDMMC football and baseball leagues (and most of the other games) for 7 years now... It will be good to have someone else doing that going forward.

Haven't decided on whether or not I'll retire from TDMMC fantasy leagues entirely, or just give up the commish duties. I have some time before the baseball season starts, so I'll give some thought to what I want to do between now and then.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  Now for my acceptance speech....

First, and foremost I'd like to thank everyone on this board for their participation.  If not for you losing, I could not win, so I thank you.

Second, I'd like to thank the free agent acquisitions I picked up after the draft.  Peyton Hillis, Brandon Lloyd, Stevie Johnson and even Matt Bryant.  I thank you all.

Third, I'd like to thank Philip Rivers for being the man.  Thanks Phil.

Well folks, there is always next year.  Until then, here is you're Fantasy Football Champion........me.

2007 - 12th of 14
2008 - 12th of 12
2009 - 12th of 14

Some very consistent performances there...

2010 - 4th of 12

'Stroke, sorry I fielded players who were "Out" for the last game, last I was able to check McCoy was playing and McFadden was "Q" I intended to check back before the games but I didn't get a chance. As it happnes my bench couldn't have changed the first week defecit :-)

If I became commish could I set the draft to a time I wouldn't have to stay up ridiculously late for? :-)

Now that I am back from my two week vacation I would like to say congrats to Tenshot on a close match. Unfortunately for me I had to set my lineup on Thursday as I was in a location with no internet for the remainder of the week. It came back to bite me pretty hard as I had some players not even suit up. It actually made me a bit ill to see that I had some zeros in a championship match that would have made the difference in the game. Either way great season and congrats to the Crakers you are more than deserving my friend!!!!!
