Title: Game - Media Mash Up
Post by: Dave Gray on November 14, 2010, 09:59:57 pm
Here's how the game works: think of  two (or more) items of media (a game, book, TV show, movie, etc.) that have a matching beginning and end, and then describe them for us to figure out.

Here's an example:
Q: A professor by day searches for a religious relic in Gotham's mental hospital.

So, the first part of it is: Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The second part is: Arkham Asylum

Therefore, the answer is:
A: Raiders of the Lost Arkham Asylum

The matching parts do not have to be spelled the same, but only be the same phonetically.

Got it?  Good.

Here's the first one:

The third chapter of Froto's epic journey,  where he climbs the Empire State Building amidst attacking airplanes.

Stroke's got me stuck.  I think the first one might be "The Miracle Worker", a movie about Helen Keller.  (Can't think of any more stories about deaf, dumb and blind kids.)  The second would seemingly be "The Wizard of Oz", but perhaps that's too easy.  Anyone have any ideas?

He used a different form of media- the rock opera!

Brian, if you solve it, you're supposed to ask your own -- that's kinda how the game works.

What about things like "A" and "The" can those be skipped? As a first word?

I dunno...sometimes they hit you, sometimes they don't.   I personally don't try to write ones that will be super stumpers.  I thought "Tool man has to do it for real" was clever.

edit to add: Often the case is if you get one you then just run thru all the possible answers for the second.  As intended, I am guessing you quickly figured out a nude weapon was naked gun and then ran thru all the songs that started with the word gun...once you remembered (or internet searched) that AC/DC was an austrailan band you knew you had the answer.  Pretty much what happened with me.  I got Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy...and then there aren't really that many songs/movies etc that start with the word galaxy.  I try to have one easier and one more clever clue.

Brian - post one to even things up.

^^^ I with Dave on this one.  Using the main title and what people call it and not including the subtitle is different than just using a character's name.  I would not have a problem if the answer is "Star Wars" (without "A new hope") but would if the answer was "Luke Skywalker".

Although I would not even have a problem with it if the clue writer clear indicated he/she was varying from the original rules.  E.g. A clue such as "the name of a main character in...."  But I thought the one with Queen Guinevere was too far out there absent such.

Please note:  I might have ignored “the” or “a” or “an”, might have dropped an “s” and might have ignored a subtitle.

Now for the clue:

Mel shows what happened at the last supper, French revolution, and the roman empire; meanwhile we see a documentary about the most significant historical event of the 20th century; in which a kid impresses his girlfriend by changing her grades and almost causes Armageddon; we Branch to a little bit of this and a little bit of that; come aboard they’re expecting you, everything is exciting and new; he doesn’t have a lot but he is fine with that, whatever he’s got he knows is his and he doesn’t go around with the local crowd; but when you do the prior clue do it gently after all life is but a dream.

Actually having that many should make it easier.  All of them are pretty well known.  The clues are pretty straightforward so if you can get a couple of clues you should be able to work forwards or backwards from them.

Yours wasn't bad once you added the extra stuff.  But springing an episode on us without any warning or clue as to the what series on initial clue meant it was never going to be solved as written.

This is frustrating. I'm completely stumped on a friggin tv show? The final song (part 4) just has too many options given only part 5, so the tv show is the key to this for me. I had 1,2 and 5 before all the extra hints and they've only just confirmed the accuracy of those...

It was posted on a Saturday evening and its only Monday. I think a lot of folks who have been "playing" the game may not have even seen this yet because of a little thing called life, so I wouldn't give out any of your results yet.

Kurt Russell plays a Kansas City lawman who tries to bring peace to a notoriously dangerous cowtown, with the assistance of a former Oklahoma football player-turned actor, whose position as an undercover agent in a notorious biker gang provides valuable intelligence.  Meanwhile, the lead singer of a famous British alt band tries to dissuade two friends, both aging Los Angeles-based boxers (played by "Woody Boyd" and "Puss in Boots") from accepting a contract to fight in a Mike Tyson undercard bout set to take place in Las Vegas.  During the road trip to Vegas, E. 1999 Eternal serves as the sound track.

This is a pretty cool thread. I just now stumbled upon it. I'm not reading through the last 17 pages though.

Here's one for ya:

A story of how men are unable to communicate their feelings towards the single women that they encounter meets a movie about a fictitious 1960's band from Erie, PA.

That is as correct as you could possibly be, given the room-clearing brainfart mistake that I made on the question.  I botched the movie title in my head, thinking it was "Fire in the Hole" instead of "Fire Down Below," which would have made the answer "I'm on fire in the hole in one."

You're way off. The movie with the rock band was released in 1978, starring the actual band, which is still together today. The robot clones and the mastermind were part of that movie. Protecting the queen and the child prodigy are from the other.

Get the first movie, and the other one will be obvious.
