Title: (Renamed) Official new logo and uniforms
Post by: Spider-Dan on March 27, 2013, 01:10:35 pm
I thought this deserved its own thread now that NFL.com has confirmed it.

Evidence? (http://news.sportslogos.net/2013/03/27/new-dolphins-logo-appears-on-nfl-com/)  The NFL.com Predict the Pick page (http://predictpick.nfl.com/?icampaign=Predict_Fantasy_Draft-Nav_signup&cvsorc=fantasy.predict.draft_nav) (it has since been changed to the previous logo):

Discuss.

I think it's more or less been discussed already as a bad logo with some saying the changes are all right or acceptable. I don't mind the abstract look to it, I kind of wanted the original shape or even the earlier logo with the red eyes or whatever that was.

I reserve judgment until I see the uniform makeover.

I also would reserve saying that anything is "official" until the TEAM announces it.

I will not polish this turd.  This logo sucks.

Steven Ross and our marketing team is full of idiots.  You can't talk about how "we've listened to the fans" and revert from the orange carpet, the forced Fins-Up fight song, and the club in the stadium to show that you finally get us, and then give us this turd of a logo that everyone hates.

Did they focus test it at all?  Or did they just ask Bob Griese?

^^ they can't have focus groups without it leaking.  Of course, as close they tried to play it, it still got out months too early.

I guess the real question is - why does it need to be such a secret?

So NFL.com can have at least 24 hours in which they can sell the authentic jersey's before the cheap knockoffs hit the street.

Sure they can.  Get people in a room and show it to them.  Or better yet, show them 20 different versions and let them comment on each of them.

Dave is correct. That's exactly how it works or is supposed to work.  I think Dave's comment hits home. Everytime I see it I'll think of a turd. The only thing worse is how bad they kept it a secret.

I think everyone should wear their gear inside out at the first game in protest

^^^ or you can leak 5 of them.... then check the various fan websites and go with the one with the most positive/least negative comments and call that your focus group.

Leaking is a good way to get additional press coverage as well.

1) You get a news story about the leak.

2) Then a story about the denial.

3) Then a half dozen about the speculation.

4) and then final a story about the formal announcement.

If you don't leak it you only get the formal announcement.

I would bet money that the team did actually pass it through focus groups, and since they would want to keep it a secret, I'd bet the "show them a group of different logos and get feedback on all of them" was likely the method used.

I think your reaction is natural... When an artistic change is made to something you have an emotional investment in (like an NFL team), and you don't approve of that change, the disapproval you show will be magnified, due to the emotional base involved.

I think everyone should wear their gear inside out at the first game in protest

Yes, so when they show any crowd shots, TV viewers from around the country can think that people in South Florida don't know how to dress themselves. ;)

Mike Dee (who could be a complete liar, who knows) told ME personally that they had only shown the logo to some old players, like Griese.

I want to be clear -- I think that a fan group voting on a logo or name is a bad idea.  Fans want what they already know.  They aren't designers and they don't understand branding.  And certain logos might piss people off temporarily, but they serve a greater function (like the Miami Marlins logo) -- new stadium, new style, new target, new branding.  That logo change made sense, even if you didn't like it.

This logo does not.  It is boring and generic.  It doesn't pay tribute to the past or look to the future.  It looks amateurish.  It says nothing about your team identity.  It is not accompanied by a change in thinking either.  And of all teams, the Dolphins have such distrust from their fanbase over the last 2 years with all of gimmicky shit that backfired on them, I'm baffled that they would be so stupid as to make a decision like this.

I am not a traditionalist either, that always wants the old thing.  I think that a change was fine -- but if you're going to do something everyone hates, at least re-brand.  I am hoping that 3 things happen -- 1) I get used to it, 2) I trick myself into liking it because of my love for the team, and 3) it looks better in practice with the greater uniform change than on its own.

PS - I really hate the new sun portion of the logo.

Suggestion:  Buy up any old logo merchandise when your local stores put them on clearance.  When the pats changed logos I bought one hat for dirt cheap.  I should have bought more and saved them to sell later.

I saw this on the Dolphins Facebook page as well.

As much as I hate it, it looks like we are stuck with this......turd!!!!!  :'(

Let me be clear:

I think the new logo is better than any other iteration of the official logo.  (By a not-insubstantial margin.)  I think this logo is an upgrade, plainly put.

That being said, there is still room for disaster in the new uniforms.  The fact that they apparently didn't switch back to the '70s aqua (as evidenced by the small piece of fabric we've seen) is encouraging, but the jury is out.

A good uniform design will make this a good move.

I think this logo is an upgrade, plainly put.

I couldn't disagree more.  I think that the only logo that we've seen that is an upgrade is the one that is similar to what we have now, with more blue incorporated, the offset sun, and the helmet removed.  It also had some "fire in the belly".  It is great.

Title: Re: This is the official new logo of the Miami Dolphins. Deal with it.
Post by: Spider-Dan on March 27, 2013, 04:56:39 pm
That particular logo was an upgrade over everything, true... but as that turned out to be a fake, I wasn't including it in the comparison.  I was only comparing the previous Dolphins logos to the 2013 logo, and in that comparison I prefer the new one.

As I've said before, if the 2013 logo had been around and someone had proposed changing to the 1997 logo (or any earlier one), I would say that it's a horrible move and the "proposed" logo looks cartoonish and stupid.

I think there are some underappreciated classical elements to the 2013 logo.  I definitely think it will age better than any other logo I've seen (and that includes the really good fake logo).

I greatly prefer the logo in the OP to the one in that video.  That new logo is bland and uninspiring.

I agreed with that statement.  It sounds like you're changing your tune a bit.

Also, Mike Dee/Steven Ross are full of crap.  We had the logo leak on here as of December -- linked from our local FOX affiliate, not some scrub, so there's no way the club didn't know it was out there for 3 months.  They are claiming that it was leaked March 19th.  What a bunch of manipulative liars.  I'm pissed about how this was handled.  There is no good will with the ownership and the fanbase.  Stop lying and manipulating us.

That wasn't quite the same logo.

It had no eyes, which makes a big difference.  The color scheme was also significantly worse, IMO.

What I said about the real logo (or something much closer to it) was:

I guess it's the second-best idea for a new logo I've seen?  It's MUCH worse than the one at the top of page 7, but it's better than the others, I guess.  Compared to the current logo (which I'm not really in love with anyway), I'd say it's a sidegrade.  To put it another way:  if the 2013 logo was the "longtime current logo", and they were talking about switching to the 2012 logo, I would be outraged.

However, since that post, the newer logo has grown on me.  I am warming up to the idea of not having a furious mascot like every other team.

To add to things that suck about this logo, it doesn't even make sense.  The logo is supposed to be the Dolphins jumping up in front of the sun.  So you kept the sun, but now the dolphin is swimming.  Is it swimming to the sun?

The color-scheme on this one is better than the leak in Dec.  But to say the logo wasn't leaked because it didn't have an eye on it and there was a slight color differentiation is pretty weak.

Also, the official sun is better than the previously leaked one.

I will say that the official logo, overall, is better than the previously leaked logo -- but they're both similar and worse than what we had, and especially worse than the other fan mock-up.

I'm not saying it "wasn't leaked;" in fact, I called BS when Brian mentioned Mike Dee's claim that the official logo was not leaked anywhere on the internet.

I'm just saying that the Dec. picture was a lot worse than what we ended up with, and that my disapproval of that Dec. picture doesn't really reflect my feelings about the real 2013 logo.

Get ready for the "Throwback" Jake Long jerseys...  :P

The new logo isn't terrible it's not great either.

The facemasks originally were grey so changing them to white isn't really that big a deal.

I still think they should have gone retro (1966-73) but what the hell.

Sorry,I was working on another project...I haven't made this logo before,I don't have it on hand....So I had to draw it (and take some liberties),as the only pics of it,are low resolution. Most of them are all on White backgrounds also.....So it's not perfect...I was on the last layer (the white)..and Illustrator crashed, and I didn't save it..I Started over... :-[

That's very close, but can you make the sun and the background the same shade of orange?  I wanted to see what the logo looked like "inverted," as it were.

If you actually drew that, that's... incredibly impressive.  The dolphin is practically a perfect copy.

I just want to know. What the ideas that didn't make it out of the boardroom. Seriously, how does this one stand out among all the rest? It doesn't scream, "Buy Me!" At least not to me. If these "reporters" with sources really wanted to do their job, how are they not breaking that story? I don't need to know reasons. I just want to know what didn't pass.

I think Dave said it best:

I bet the people at Coke felt the same way while they were preparing to unleash New Coke. Fans may not be able to build a consensus on what they want. But they can on what they won't. This is one of them. Floating a "leak" helps to establish a feel for the people's acceptance level would be. If the goal is to sell merchandise, why brand a logo the majority can't stand? Personnel descions shouldn't be fan based. That's the owner's investment. But this logo would be the fan's investment. As far as investing their hard earned money into merchandise acquisition.

I kind of like it.

First, I hated anything blue in our colors.  It was like bringing part of Dallas to this team.  I never understood bringing blue into the colors of this team.  They didn't belong.

Second, I love the new logo is the original colors of the logo without going Marlins loopy.

Third, the original logo was like a Dolphin jumping through a hoop.  I love the team...I was never sure how I felt about the logo of an animal doing tricks for people.

Let's face it.  "Dolphins" isn't the most fierce name for a team to begin with, we're just used to it.  This captures a true spirit of a Dolphin more than the previous cartoon-like logo.

Just because it looks similar does not mean it is the logo Dave. Companies are very protective of logos. That is marketing 101. They are technically correct that the real logo was not leaked as far as I know. There was a look alike but not the logo. I know it is ticky tack but that is the way organizations feel about their brand.

I bet the people at Coke felt the same way while they were preparing to unleash New Coke.

I heard an interesting story on this from someone. They told me the Coke change happened as companies were changing their sweeteners. The switch to New Coke was a ploy where they understood people would recognize the change so they make a switch, tell people about it, say they are bringing back Coke Classic but in reality it is also a different formula with the new sweetener.

end hijack

To be fair, that was Dave's statement.  I questioned it.

I actually like the new sun - its going in the right direction.  I think they can save the logo by releasing hot-looking uniforms.  And the facemask change to white clearly suggests to me that the helmet may be going away from white.  I would be happy if they went to a orange helmet and put the partial logo on it.  I'm going to try to mock it up, but I suck a photoshop.

I don't think there's any hope they go away from the white helmet, but it was worth the 10 minutes of painting.  It would probably look better if someone with at least 1 ounce of Photoshop skills did it.

I'm trying not to be pissed off just to be pissed off and say that I'm never going to buy anything.  I'm sure I'll warm to it eventually.  On the mock helmet, it looks better, but I think it's because I like the single aqua stripe.

And the facemask change to white clearly suggests to me that the helmet may be going away from white.  I would be happy if they went to a orange helmet and put the partial logo on it.  I'm going to try to mock it up, but I suck a photoshop.
That was the reason I asked Lil B to do that inverted logo.

Orange helmets won't work.  The dolphin looks like it's bursting through the page.

I kinda like it:

I don't think there's any hope they go away from the white helmet, but it was worth the 10 minutes of painting.  It would probably look better if someone with at least 1 ounce of Photoshop skills did it.

I like that OK. I think a grey helmet with white outer flames, white facemask, and orange sun center would look good also. Kind of like this, only a couple shades darker grey on the helmet. I have no skill at this kind of thing, but someone should do a better mockup.

Thanks, I didn't spend much time on it. I think the grey should be a bit darker so that the white in the face mask and sun ring contrast more.

I couldn't disagree more.  I think that the only logo that we've seen that is an upgrade is the one that is similar to what we have now, with more blue incorporated, the offset sun, and the helmet removed.  It also had some "fire in the belly".  It is great.

Then how can you say that fans are idiots and don't know anything about branding or logos , when this was CLEARLY the fan favorite??  You say fans want what they already know and the logo your talking about is pretty close to that.  Your contradicting yourself.

PS-  Don't get me wrong.  I agree with you 100% and think we should have gone with that logo too.  It's way cooler!

I don't think I'm being contradictory at all.  First off, let's stick with the facts.  This is not CLEARLY the fan favorite as the logo you're referring to came in 2nd in the fan voting.  The winner was this: https://99designs.com/designs/20274529~2f35aef635b60498901578ace5f02b53a82cf1a4-original

But even if they picked the one I like, it's still a bad process to have the masses vote on this kind of stuff.  Logos, taglines, etc. -- are about branding and team identity.  Good ones need to be well thought out and come from within an organization.  They need to go hand in hand with a goal from the top of the organization down.  Did you know that in Enterprise rental commercials, the car is wrapped in brown paper, because they are trying to give you "the total package"?  It's unlikely that a customer knows that.  But, it's still a brand identity and those working in the organization carry that message on down.

My main gripe with this logo isn't that I don't like it.  It's more that it is bland, uninspiring, generic and I feel that it says nothing about the organization.

The other logo that I liked was fierce, modern, and had fire in the belly, yet it still paid homage to the traditions of the organization.  The one thing I'll say about this logo is that the color change has meaning.

They returned to the old aqua color that we used to be and away from the teal color that we'd adopted more recently.  I believe that reverting to the old color is their attempt to respect their roots, which I am OK with.

It honestly looks more like an airplane flying by the sun, which actually makes more sense for this this logo, especially if your gonna keep the sun behind it.

IMO the logo seems kinda bland and boring, especially with the duller colors.  "Miami" should have been involved more in any new logo, or perhaps they plan on moving the team.  I don't care too much about the logo, I'll just keep wearing the old gear (especially since I bought a couple jerseys last year).  I'm more interested in winning a playoff game!!!

One thing I would change on this new logo is the tail. Have the tail down instead of up.

More than likely the Fins are stuck with this for maybe 10+yrs.

People hated the Flying Elvis( New England)

People complained when the Giants went throwback with the "ny"

People still complain about the TITANS logo.

Also hear the BROWNS are making changes as well.

While i do dislike the new Dolphin logo,  hopefully the uniforms will look bad-ass.  Also, if the "NEW" translate to WINS then the logo will have sourght of an impact unlike the Marlins god-awful change.

A couple of hats with the new logo have been tweeted out...

Ben Volin this morning........
You can't buy the #Dolphins draft hat yet, but here's the new logo on a 59Fifty NewEra hat http://bit.ly/YAdMtC (https://twitter.com/BenVolinPBP/status/320167065849831425)

Just the Photolink in Ben's tweet (http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/483680_363301593778911_1842982354_n.jpg)

Miami Dolphins tweeted this one out same thing
White hat tweeted (https://twitter.com/MiamiDolphins/status/319193501785022464/photo/1)

Then Jesse Agler (finsjesse)
New hat. http://instagram.com/p/Xm3O1FlMvP/  (https://twitter.com/finsjesse/status/319107699646271489)

Hat link picture (http://instagram.com/p/Xm3O1FlMvP/)

I don't like the plain white hat,It does say seaworld, save the whales...The navy hat is somewhat better..For me,it still doesn't say Miami Dolphins football team... :( Maybe with time... :-\

i think that's a problem with the logo in general. The dolphin is so much bigger than the ring that it looks like a whale.

I was talking about the logo in general, not just the dolphin element within the logo. The whole thing needs to be shrunk down a bit.

I also don't see a whale at all...and I'd feel comfortable in saying that I've likely been a lot closer to whales (orca) in their natural habitat (ocean, rather than a Seaworld tank) than most folks.

I've yet to really see any sort of support come for this logo outside of a handful of posters on this board.

Teams change logos all the time.  The problem is that they made the logo worse.  They de-modernized, and de-intensified, further disconnecting themselves from the fanbase after the "orange carpet" regime that everyone hates.

So you're saying that getting used to it sucking is the same as it being good? I don't agree. I bet if I tried I could find Patriots or Bronco fans that still think the older logo was better. If it's just the term "sucks" that you object to, well that's just me. I think it sucks compared to the old logo. I'm sure in 5 years I won't think it sucks anymore, but that doesn't mean I don't think it sucks now and it's of little consolation to me now that I won't think it sucks in 5 years. It's also possible I am underestimating the suckitude of the logo and will still think it sucks in 5 years.  >:D

I might  have been oblivious but I know both Broncos fans ans New England fans and I don't remember the uproar being anything close to this.  I think it's safe to say many of those outside of the Dolphins franchise even know of the disappointing logo.

True.

However, I counter that this is simply not the vocal minority who are upset with any change.  I think it's the vocal majority that are upset with this specific change.  I was excited when the new logo was announced.  Look at these boards -- most of us thought that some of the other designs looked bad-ass and were hopeful of something cool.  Of course, there were a few traditionalist who wanted it left alone and even fewer that wanted to go to the throwback, but for the most part, people were excited at the prospect of that one logo of the helmet-less dolphin that resembled our current logo.

This is nearly unanimously hated, both of social media (which is to be expected), on this website, which is usually split about all things, and in my day to day life -- all of my friends and co-workers and family hate it.

It's not that we dislike change.  We just dislike BAD change.

Also, I liked the Patriots logo WHEN THE CHANGE WAS MADE.  I remember thinking how much better the "flying Elvis" was than the weird football dude.  I felt the same way about the Broncos, the Seahawks, the Bucs, Eagles, Bengals, Cardinals.

And to Stroke, I say it is "less modern", because modern sports logos have moved towards "hard line" definition".  Our most recent logo has dark outlines, as does almost every other modern logo.   The old logos lack that "dark line" definition -- the 70s Dolphin logo did, as well as almost every logo during that era.  It is a step backwards in terms of artistic style.  Since about the 1980s, all logos in the NFL have evolved in this direction.  ...shit....even the 49ers update did this in the late 90s.

In 1979, Patriots' brass allowed the fans to choose between the old Pat Patriot logo and this one:

You may notice that it bears more than a passing resemblance to the Flying Elvis head-attached-to-flag logo that NE currently uses.

So what was the result of the fan vote (measured by a decibel meter at halftime of a regular season Pats' home game)?  Well: (http://www.helmethut.com/Features/Prototypes/Patsproto.html)

"The vote, predictably, was not close as Patriot Patā€™s supporters 'knocked the needle right off the meter' while the new proposed logo barely registered a peep."

The lesson I take from that is that even if your logo looks amateurish and stupid, fans will angrily object to nearly any change.  I have no doubt in my mind that had the NE brass put the '94 logo to the same vote, it would have lost by similar margins.

^^And I completely agree with you Spider that change is almost never a popular thing. With many people almost any change will be initially disliked, no one is disputing that, but that DOESN'T make it true that just because it's initially disliked it, it's a good change. It could be a bad change that's initially disliked and will continue to be disliked even after the INITIAL dislike wears off. I think that's what most of us believe to be the case here. We've known for quite a while now that a change was coming. I think some of us here would have even embraced a change, I know I would have, but I do not like the new logo. It's not because it's different, it's because I don't like it. I don't like anything about it. If the logo introduced would have been the one that started the thread about the logo, I would have been on board 100% with it. I LIKED that. I LIKED that a LOT.

I like everything except that stupid stripe down the center of the helmet. Looks like a god damn mohawk.

It's tough to know which scenario is the case when people will complain loudly either way.

That logo was basically a photoshop of the old logo, so it was much more familiar.  Not many people objected to the '97 logo, either.

That logo was basically a photoshop of the old logo, so it was much more familiar.  Not many people objected to the '97 logo, either.
What can I tell you? If it ain't broke, don't fix it. You seem to be of the opinion the old logo was broken, I was not. I would have been on board with an attempt to make the old logo better. I would have even been on board for a completely new logo if it was a terrific logo. This logo isn't it. It's uninspired. They made it less iconic. They made the look less exciting. They made the colors more pastel. The only thing they got right was removing the helmet which was the only thing that was really holding the old logo back. If they wanted to change the direction of the logo then do it. Completely redo it. Put the city of Miami in the background. Put the word Miami or Dolphins in letters or something. Do something BETTER, not just sissify it. Everytime I see the logo now, I see the word SeaWorld under it just like CF Dolfans avatar and I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

New logo with some maintaining of tradition is always the way to go for logo changes.

In point of fact, of the 32 team logos, exactly four (NYJ, CLE, OAK, TB) have a reference to football (and OAK's reference is leather-style helmets, which they weren't even around for).

Obviously it was more than slightly. In the past people have complained but a lot of people REALLY dislike this logo. Off hand I can't think of any that was do uniformally disliked by the fans. I mean even Ireland had supporters last year that were defenfing him more than if we win you'll forget about it.

No its a slight change. Is it still a Dolphin jumping through a sunburst or whatever the hell you want to call it? YES. So they removed it helmet, changed the direction of its tail, and some facial features. To me that's a slight change!

What Tampa, the Patriots, Denver....they did drastic changes. What Miami did was slight!

I think the logo is bigger than a slight change.  I think the Seahawks is a slight change.  The 49ers is a slight change.  I think that this is a similar concept, but they changed the colors, some of the elements, the pose, the aspect ratios.  I even dispute that it's "jumping".  It's a swimming dolphins in front of a sun burst.  I don't think the two logos look alike at all.  Granted, it's not as much of a departure like the Patriots or Bucs, but it's still considerable.

You know what?  I give a shit about this.  I care....a lot.  I hate this logo more and more every day.  It's to the point where I'm angry when I look at it.  Football really makes no sense.  We're taking pride in the physical accomplishments of others.  It's really like a gang mentality.  You get behind it so that you can rep your clothes, be proud of your affiliation, and bond with your brethren.  And things like this logo change make me not want to do that.  I'm embarrassed that I would be asked to wear that on clothing.  It makes me ashamed of the team.

I got a piece of mail from the team yesterday and it had the new logo on it.  I gritted my teeth.

I hate it so, so much.  I just don't see myself getting over it.  I really hate it that bad.

I kind of feel the same way. Everyday that goes by and as the season gets closer, the more I hate this new logo. I kind of see this as a turning point for the team and they will not ever be the same from this point forward. Even if they win the Superbowl for the next 3 years straight it just won't be the same for me for some reason. For those of you that like the new logo, good for you, I'm happy for you. However, judging by the majority of posts on different forums and social media, the majority of people hate the new logo also.

I'll get over the logo, but that's not the point. The point is that I'm not happy with the change because I think it's a step backwards rather than a step forward. They could have left the Dolphins logo just as it was as it really didn't NEED to be changed. This is REAL simple. This was Ross taking over the team and deciding that a change to the logo needed to be made and he's the owner so that's his right, but he got the logo wrong. I'm sorry, he just did. It won't change how I feel about the Dolphins. It probably won't even change whether or not I buy their gear, it's not like I was really much of a gear person in the first place, but I don't like the logo. It's not like we don't discuss every other damn thing that's Dolphins related, why not the logo.

I just think the pics you posted are a reach and you know it. I think that's the issue that seems to run people the wrong way. You will argue something that really doesn't matter to the conversation. Can you find pictures of the opposite? Yes you did but are they really common images in the average persons mind? Probably not. I say probably because now you will counter that I have no scientific poll to prove my theory and that my experience isn't relevant to the topic or the mere fact you found the pictures is enough to prove I am wrong. I'll surrender the point. It looks just like a dolphin and in no way resembles a whale to me.

No, you're twisting my words. I never said that I wouldn't be happy. I said that it wouldn't be the same for me. Pretty soon this team will be unrecognizable and only the dolphins in name. This is just Ross trying to do everything to make a winner except actually win something. Seems I remember orange carpets, clubs, and washed up celebrity owners. Now add a crappy logo to that list. I'm a little surprised of the outrage about the new logo.  I didn't like it at first because I thought there were better options.  I don't like it now, but I don't hate it either.  It's a little generic, but also a little more modernized.  At least it's an actual dolphin now and not some cartoon that looks like its going to drop an anvil on your head.

I may sound a little petty here and it may not solve anything,  but hey dont support the LOGO by not buying anything with the aweful design on it.

I say protest, Miami Dolphin fans are the most passionate in the league and many of us are not afraid to publicly voice opinions.

How do we contact Mr. Ross or Mike Dee ?  Not like it matters, but maybe if enough disgrutle mail go to them they may listen.

Well well, look at the almighty himself declaring what's not debatable. Who died and made you lord of all that's right and wrong? Like Dave said, the Seahawks, and 49ers were a slight change. The Lions, Cardinals, Falcons and, hell, the Dolphins back in '97 were all slight changes. This wasn't. But hey, it's your world. You see at as slight, whatever.

And nice little knock there at the end. You may not give two rats asses about the logo change, cool, that's your thing. Put a Dolphin in a tutu and change the color scheme to pink, you don't care as long as the team wins, I get it. But there are some, (if you read Dave's post) that do care. Some more than others. Not to mention that it's being discussed in a thread that, wait a minute, is ABOUT the change. Yeah, we're grown/STRAIGHT men talking about this shit.

Sometimes I wonder about the time and effort SOME lonely? MEN here put into following every damn thing the Miami Dolphins do 24-7 and how weird IT is, but hey that's their thing, and this is a Dolphins message board. I keep it to myself, read what I want, and don't want.

Also, I did say it may be something petty. Like i said, if your that determined. People will organize and bring more than just a pathetic 10 - 30 person rally just because of a logo.

Or they could be like you and I , and just bitch about it on the message boards in which the point does not get across.

Oh and to mention that most Dolphin fans are in other parts of the states and country.  The Majority of people livin in So FLA are COMMUTERS.  How many of us Fin fans on these Boards alone are in another state/country.  Im living at a military base in GA. just an example, AZ Fin fan, Tenshot, etc are in different locations.  Majority of people in South FLA go to fins games because football is there.

Anyways, I would not mind wasting my time to organize something like a protest but i wont do it with just a bullshit number of people. I would really be pathetic.

I think that protesting things like this is stupid and I have better things to do.  Plus, it doesn't matter.  The best hope for the protest is for other people who don't like the changes to pick up on it and be more vocally unhappy on things like social media, where it will then spread.  But it all comes down to merchandising sales.  If the old logo outsells the new logo, we'll have the old logo back.

^^ It can be done but its gonna cost you.  Willing to pay $60-100 for a hat?  If so, you can do it.

You'd need to have that logo digitized for embroidering and then bring it to an embroiderer and have it done.  It was like 4 colors.  The hat itself is the cheapest part.  If you know an embroiderer, then you might get it cheaper.  There are sites online that will do it.  Also, if you order a LOT of them, like 100, the digitizing cost can be divided among them.

Vectors of the logo No problem...

This one,I vectored it awhile ago.

These are the "other" Dolphins logos I made so I could use them...All vectored...(I also did lot's of Cubs logos, and Avalanche logos)

I've used sportslogo.net for quite a few years, I've enkoyed seeing the old cubs logos, and how they have changed.

I agree with most of this...Accept I don't feel the anger, but sad when I look at it.Makes me feel sad,and pathetic...

^^ The tail looks wierd on that one.  Not sure why.

But, still, when I said "digitized" it has to be converted to a program that the embroidery machine can read.  Typically some software that drives the needle path and stitching and stuff.  There may be more advanced ones now that you can just load a graphic and go, but I looked into this a few years ago and decided it wasn't worth it for a one-off item.

I still feel like the new logo is a reasonable choice.  Please keep in mind that the fan logo we all liked lost to this MLS-style monstrosity:

In fact, looking at the designs submitted for that contest (http://99designs.com/logo-design/contests/designs-community-contest-help-miami-dolphins-nfl-team-191400/entries?filter=rated&sorting=rating), I can say in all honesty that nearly all of them are horrible and amateurishly cartoony.  I would really hope that some of the more dissatisfied fans would take a look at that contest and see what bad logos really look like.

The 2013 logo is MUCH closer to the '97 logo than 90% of the logos submitted.  Nearly every submission removed the helmet (because, ahem, a helmet on a dolphin looks dumb) and the ones that didn't ended up looking like this:

In my opinion, that logo looks too cartoony and would have been a downgrade from the '13 logo.

Plus, the passenger-side flipper looks deformed.

I knew you did, but there's nothing second-tier about their logo's so I don't know why it would be bad for Miami to have a similar style of logo. Obviously a lot of Americans like the style and judging by the voting, a lot of Dolphins fans as well.

Title: Re: This is the official new logo of the Miami Dolphins. Deal with it.

Oh, there's nothing wrong with their logos, per se.  But their logos (particularly, the extremely common and similar shield element) are identified with... a second-tier soccer league.

That's my point.  That would be a great logo for the Miami Aqua FC or Club Deportivo Miami.  But for the NFL's Miami Dolphins?  It's out of place.

Now that you mention it, there is a rather large contingent of americans in Florida that might be more familiar with futbol then football. :) Perhaps that explains the voting?

Title: Re: This is the official new logo of the Miami Dolphins. Deal with it.
Post by: Dave Gray on April 15, 2013, 06:01:56 pm
Yeah, there was only one good logo alteration that I've liked, the Redpin one.   (And the new one B Fein posted is OK, but looks a little scrawny).  The winner of the fan contest is too amateurish.

Title: Re: This is the official new logo of the Miami Dolphins. Deal with it.
Post by: Spider-Dan on April 15, 2013, 06:34:30 pm
So given that everyone likes the Redpin logo, thinks it's awesome, etc., if we take it as a given that Redpin's logo won't be used (because, among other reasons, it lost), which of the remaining logos would have been a better choice than the 2013 logo?

That's kind of my point.  I'm sure more people would have been happier with the Redpin logo, and it's a nice logo.  But the 2013 logo is not too bad as a silver medal, and we certainly dodged MANY bullets with what could have been.

^ What's your point?  That other logos could suck more?  Yes.  This is true.

I just see this logo we have now as a downgrade to what we already had.  That, in itself, blows ass.  I get little solace in knowing that a fan contest only created 1 better result.

I didn't know there even was a contest until you posted about it here.

Same here, I didn't even know about the contest until it was over.  I told my boy, it is what it is, I will root for the team regardless of the logo, but it would have been nice to have a logo that was exciting & instilled pride/character.  This logo isn't completely awful, but it's not the direction I thought the organization would take.

Oh well.  I do hope that the uniform & helmets pull this all together.

I came across this logo/design doing a google design and liked the use the "D" as  both representing the dolphin and incorporating the first letter of the mascot.   Still would prefer to have the whole dolphin represented in the logo, but thought this was a decent design, though they used the UM Canes font, I believe. The Islanders' logo today is, imo, one of the ugliest logos in professional sports. The logo that only lasted two years ('95-'96) was a total break-away from their traditional logo, but it was pretty ugly too, imo.

They aren't even the worst in hockey. I think the Ducks win that prize. The NBA has several terrible logos and MLB only has two teams no using the latter of the city as a logo. How unoriginal can they make an entire league?

Sure, but they all at least look like they were professionally done. That Islanders logo really looks like it was just slapped together. The lettering is cheese, the hockey stick and puck are cheese, and the island image looks like a bad rorschach test.  I understand where you're coming from when you say that other logos are bad as well, but I think the Isles logo is the blue ribbon baby of the hot graphical garbage world.

I'm not asking for black jerseys.  I'm asking for aqua pants.  I'm asking for some aqua stripes or accents.  I'm asking for a little color and creativity.

You can't honestly tell me that aqua pants make players run slower and get tired faster.  Really?

I don't have to see the pants - I know from 2012 that they will wear white pants.  They took the color off the facemask, so why not just wrap out players in bed sheets and send them out there so they don't get warm.

I hate them more than the new logo.

The Jags have the best uniforms out of that bunch.

I wouldn't put too much weight in the colors; that camera had a strange exposure, as the orange (even on the helmet logo) looks like light peach.

As I expected it is too difficult to polish a turd. Those suck......I am not really sure what else to say about it. I was hoping they would do something cool to offset the tragic logo but this is kind of what I was expecting and I hate them. I will continue to rock my old jerseys until this phase has passed.  :'(

I love random stripes.  I love the Broncos' uniforms.  They ooze team personality.  They have stripes of color and unique-looking character.

These look like someone got tired and just said "fine - aqua shirt, white shirt, white pants for both."

No imagination whatsoever.  No team identity.  Just completely awful and generic.

Funny.  I hate the Jags unis.  Too much going on.  I like our unis OK.  I think the logo looks weird on the sleeve and the side view of the helmet, the logo is too stretched.  But the simplified scheme is good.

One more thing.  I don't LOVE these....but I think I'm just glad that they aren't all screwed up.  Generic and plain -- yes.  But I'll take that, compared to whatever disaster I was expecting.

Title: Re: This is the official new logo of the Miami Dolphins. Deal with it.

I think the new uniforms are consistent with the direction of the new logo: simplified.

Also, I know I just said not to put too much weight on the colors in those pics, but that looks like the '97 aqua to me. I don't see a trace of the old aqua, which is a major win in my book.

I also like the fact that they went heavy on aqua/white and extremely light on the orange.  I also don't see an orange uniform, so those may have seen their last days.

I like the new look. Very simple. A classic look. Nothing goofy or outrageous. I mean it isn't a drastic change by any means. They really did just tweak things in the end. I especially like the white face-mask and the teal strip down the middle of the helmet the most.

I second what Brian said, boring. I'm not a huge fan of a trillion colors on jerseys, but this is seriously plain. They look like Walmart jerseys now (no striped sleeves). Ha.

^^ correct. Completely uninspired.

I like what Jacksonville did a lot more, except for the black/gold gradient on the helmet.  Not sure how that is going to work.

Title: Re: This is the official new logo of the Miami Dolphins. Deal with it.
Post by: Spider-Dan on April 23, 2013, 11:40:10 pm
I didn't notice that gradient.  Looks pretty ridiculous, IMO.

I was going to actually compliment them on going with (what looks like) a matte black helmet, which would be a first in the NFL, I believe.  But now I won't.

We owe the uniform leak to Jacksonville. That is funny to me. But hey the media waited for Jax to display their new uniforms before spoiling Miami and the vikings new uniform unveiling. Way to go Nike I wonder if they can be sued or have to pay fines for that.

I don't think Nike makes those decisions.  The team comes up with the design, and Nike just executes it.

I think the team gives Nike a general direction, Nike creates a few different uniforms, and the team chooses one and makes suggestions for tweaks.

I don't think redesigning the uniform is something that you place in the lap of the equipment manager or the art department, and it seems unlikely that they would have a fulltimer for this kind of thing, so it would make a lot more sense for the brass to give Nike a general idea of what they are looking for, and have the people in charge of manufacturing the uniforms create a look that works with existing available materials.

First impression is, just how bland? So much for there being less dark blue in the uniform, if anything there looks to be much less orange (particularly where the stripes have been replaced/overshadowed by the darker blue). Also noticed they haven't really increased the size of the sleeve logos, still look no bigger than the Nike branding - at least the shitty aqua clown collars from last year are gone. I hope our play on the field next season isn't anywhere near as vanilla/boring.

Really hard to tell at the moment - the latest leaked shots really look darker than a dark aqua, it could be just the lighting, but the surrounds of the stripes look particularly dark. It's certainly different to the Tannehill mock-up pic a couple of pages back with the bigger sleeve logos and orange surrounds of the stripes and numbers.

Title: Re: (Renamed) Official new logo and uniforms

Orange should have been the border around the numbers like in the classic uniforms also the addition of the stripes in the shoulders /arms should have been implemented .  The Uni's are just boring.  I hear an alternate is going to be unveiled.

Where's the orange on the uniform.  I believe it's outlined on the numbers, but the pics do a bad job of showing that.  Was really hoping it would be prevalent around the numbers.  Damn.

More orange, something like this

I just read this from Armando. Seems Mike Dee is responsible for the changes or lack thereof. It also doesn't look like a third jersey is coming as was previously mentioned.

Quote
The Dolphinsā€™ look, the brainchild of club chief executive officer Mike Dee, might not wow you. But it shouldnā€™t cause anyone to wince either.

The Dolphinsā€™ look is straight-laced and as such, there will be no alternative uniforms used this year. The old orange jerseys have been mothballed. The aqua jerseys over aqua pants look of a decade ago also is not in the immediate plans.

Itā€™s going to be all white at home and the aqua jersey and white pants combination on the road or whenever else it is warranted.

I'm not disputing that its a different shade of navy than previous.  They definitely lightened it up.  But I don't think anyone would call that color "green".  Aqua is typically a shade of green.  I think everyone would agree that it is a dark blue.

The '97 Dolphins "blue" is so dark that it's almost black.  TDMMC uses the OFFICIAL '97 colors, as per their HTML code.  The text you're reading now is the former Dolphins blue.

The new blue is still undeniably blue....more blue, I'd say.

Just my thoughts on this....(please excuse the exact lack of technical terms,I knew them at one time)

One of the problems in your color disagreement,(I think!),is one is talking about reflective color.Art class paint...Red and yellow make orange,Blue and Yellow make Green,etc,etc..How color appears reflecting off of something.

The other is talking about RGB,or how color is perceived when light passes through it.Photoshop,Illustrator,etc,etc...The RGB system,Red,Green,Blue system your monitor,Flat panel screen...

You're looking at colors over the internet, over two different sources....

Title: Re: (Renamed) Official new logo and uniforms
Post by: Dave Gray on April 25, 2013, 03:08:42 pm
The middle color looks closer to "bondi blue" to me.  It's kinda similar to both that and the persian green.  Cerulean is kinda close to our "navy" but we have a slightly darker shade.

I think they look very clean and crisp.  It's a very classical look.  Like the new logo: simplified.

Glad to see the aqua pants are still in the rotation, though they should probably wear the white "calf covers" with them... otherwise they look like leotards.  Also glad to see that the "MIAMI" on the back is on a clear "beltline," and not on the ass or as a tramp stamp.

I really think MIA has the best new uniforms of the three unveiled this week.  They are very... professional.

I'm scratching my head because my monitors must not be showing the same colors as you guys. It looks almost baby blue and I'm not a fan. Taking colors out of it and it appears to be one of the most boring uniforms I have ever seen. The NFL is exciting and violent. I think the plainness of the uniform is more inline with a sport like golf where it's inappropriate to take pictures, cheer, or clap.

Hopefully I'll like it more when I see it in person.  Did anyone here go last night and actually see them?

I'm the opposite.  I was kinda OK with the leak, but I don't like these.  I don't care for the color, the stripe looks weird.  I especially don't like it when it's side by side with Jason Taylor (from their presentation last night).  The 97 Unis have so much more "POP" to them.

Well after the uniforms have been ofiicially presented, I'm so - so with the new look.  Its not so bad and at the same time not to good. The new look will definately grow on people. The aqua I feel is a lil too bright. Judging from the fans reaction, I dont see a lot of complaining. I have to admit I was in total disgust, but now Im not loving it nor hating it either.  My only gripe is the dolphin with the tail up instaed of down.

I really like the orange and based on how much orange dolphins shit I see clearly I am not alone. These unis have very little orange in them and I think that is a mistake. Also they are very plain and don't excite me all that much.

Ever since CF DolFan's "happy" comment, looking at this photo I can't help thinking they're about to burst into a chorus of Y-M-C-A  :o

Okay, the Dolphins have never had the most masculine group of colors, but on first impression this look reminds me a little too much of the Bucs creamsicle era uniforms. :-\

So on the one hand, these uniforms are reminiscent of the creamsicle Bucs uniforms.  And on the other, they don't have enough orange.

Maybe in order to better distinguish themselves from the creamsicle uniforms, they should wear something like this:

They look clean but seem kind of bland to me. Can't see the orange from a distance. I like what the Seahawks did with their unis with the bright fluorescent green highlights. Makes it look really modern. I don't know, maybe these new Dolphins unis would look a bit more flashy and appealing ala-Seahawks style with a brighter thin orange fluorescent type color on the borders of the aqua stripes.

I mean if we're really going to change our logo and shit so drastically, then go for it all the way and make a bolder statement with the entire uniform as well dammit. I'd actually be okay with Dolphins having such thin orange borders like they have if I could actually see them without being up on a players ass. This is so friggin typical; we're always almost there.

Just my opinion though...808

Is this a defense of navy blue?  I thought I was the only one who liked it.

In any case, that picture is a particularly good shot, as it shows that the new aqua is almost exactly the same shade as the '97 aqua; the previous uniforms were simply glossy instead of matte.  Furthermore:

- the current (and '97) primary aqua is much darker than the aqua used for the majority of Shula's tenure
- the new darker aqua accents are even darker than that, so if we're going to make comparisons to pastels, the new uniform is a lot better that almost every other previous one

I mean, if you want to argue for navy blue over dark aqua, I can see that; I personally love my navy blue Zach jersey and thought it would have been a MUCH better game alternate than the creamsicles.  But compared to what the Dolphins have historically trotted out on the field, overall I still like the new uniforms.

I think we've discovered your problem in regards to the new uniforms. You are obviously color blind because the 97 jersey and the 2013 jersey are night and day different just in shades of "aqua" alone.

I think the two shades are different.  One is matte, one is glossy - yes.  But I also see the '97 version as being a deeper, greener shade of aqua.  The new one is closer to a light blue.

If I was describing them I'd say the old one was teal green and the new closer to a baby blue.

It's further accented by the lack of bold colors on the new uniform.  It's primarily that lighter blue and white, while the 97 uni had prominent dark blue and orange accents.

^^^^ ::) Still all different colors....much like the blues you were arguing earlier. I also have 2 of the Dolphins Orange jerseys neither of which are anything close to the creamsicle color of Tampa or the Tennessee Orange. Many things looks darker at night so I am not sure how that helps.

I really do think you like to argue/debate just for the sake of arguing/debating.

Either way this is pointless and isn't on point with the conversation so regardless of your response this is the last I will say on this topic. Good Day Sir!!!!!

Yes, the reason why I posted the different colors of the creamsicles was because there's more than one shade associated with them.  I never said that the Miami version was the same shade as the TB or TEN versions.

In fact, of the three jerseys I just posted, I'd have a hard time saying that the TB jerseys are the closest to the actual product... yet those are the jerseys that are most widely associated with "creamsicle."

It's funny -- when you look at the old, old, old unis, the color seems to change.  Some of them do look light blue.  Others have a greenish tint.  Did they change colors more than once?

I need a 5th choice.  I can enjoy the simplistic new unis, but they don't actively suck balls like the new logo.

That logo looks like a turd floating in Bushwood's pool no matter how I look at it.

^^^ I think there should have been another option.  I voted that they suck because it was the closest to how I feel.  I think they are worse than the prior unis (which I liked with the exception of the orange jerseys, I think they sucked), but I don't think the new jerseys quite rise to the level of "suck".

How much can you bitch about an ugly item of clothing? We get it  already. As Stroke said it is old now. At this point you don't sound like someone concerned about a foorball team but sound more like old bitties complaining about the shoes someone wore to the party. What we can hope for is, after 2-3 years of this new logo in place, the organization will see from the diminishing returns on Dolphins merchandise that they need to return to the old logo.

I know I will personally continue to buy the old stuff and not any new logo merchandise.

Its highly unlikely that will happen,  Its seems many embrace the new look.  I do feel that they should darken the aqua  because it looks real bright and the dolphin TAIL should be down instead of up.  But other than that, I dont hate the look as much when the whole piece came together.

The thing,  Over a period of time and if the play on field becomes better, The Unis will be overlooked.  Hey at least its not MARLINS bad.

As "gung ho" as Mike Dee and the Fins' brass is about this "rebirth" I don't see them going back on it.

As soon as the old stuff is all gone and not available to buy, people will have no choice.  In 2-3 years, you won't even remember how horrible it is and all will be normal.

And then they will start playing games in the old uniforms, kinda the same way the Patriots' bust out the squatting colonist 1-2 times per season.

People always have a choice.  They might just not buy.  Or buy less.  This change was made to make money -- that's it.  If it doesn't, they WILL revert.  Not might.  Will.

Now, I don't have a crystal ball to see if people will start to like the new logo or not.

There are enough people who will still buy it.  Perhaps it will flop.  I just don't see it.

I keep bringing this stat up:
EVERYONE hated the Marlins' new logo when it came out.  EVERYONE.  But, that year they had the 2nd best-selling MLB hat to the Yankees.  Why is that?

A year from now, we'll see how merchandise sales go.  The most die hard fans, the same ones posting daily on a football message board in April and May, are the ones that probably won't buy anything.  They also represent about 20-25% of the population.  And based on the poll, only roughly half of the die-hards won't buy it.  We'll see...

Apples and oranges comparison.  First off, I don't think everyone hated it.  I think that there's an entire hispanic/urban community that embraced it.  But, the Marlins have no history or identity.  So, there's no visceral attachment to that logo that people have passed down.

And also, the Marlins weren't considered a joke of an organization.  They made this change during a period of perceived positivity, where they had (on paper) an exciting team, a new stadium launching, a minor relocation, and they branded their things accordingly -- their brand intended to move away from being the Dolphins little brother into their own thing.

The Dolphins, on the other hand, have been a joke of a franchise for a decade and we were shitty again last year.  The team has already struggled with trying to replace history with other things, like the orange carpet, the club, celebrity owners, new fight song -- all of that fell splat like a turd and as recently as this year have reverted back to traditions, saying "we get it...we heard you".  So, now this logo flies in the face of that message.  In addition, Ireland has a bad reputation and people don't like Steven Ross.

Quote
A year from now, we'll see how merchandise sales go.  The most die hard fans, the same ones posting daily on a football message board in April and May, are the ones that probably won't buy anything.  They also represent about 20-25% of the population.  And based on the poll, only roughly half of the die-hards won't buy it.  We'll see...

I agree with you that we'll just have to see how it goes, but I don't think it's some futile thing that we're stuck with, regardless of the reception.

^^ Disagree with your statement that the Marlins aren't a joke.  Nationally, the Marlins have been a joke for 10 years.  Attendance regularly in the hundreds, the home run sculpture, the owner and his clown posse, Ozzie Guillen, etc.  Yes, it was part of a massive rebranding and transition for the team.  I think that's what the Dolphins are trying to force here.

They have cap money and a lot of draft picks.  They're drawing the line and saying "that's it, we're done sucking NOW."  They're trying to re-birth the team into something new and great.  The Dolphins have only been a joke to Dolphins' fans, because they aren't satisfied.  The Club Liv, Orange Carpet bullshit was just stop gap peripheral trash fodder to try to help sell tickets to rich people.  If you ask a guy in Kansas City, he's never heard of the Orange Carpet, and probably doesn't care.

I think the team looks at this season as a new beginning, and that's why the big sweeping changes.  They want to put the last 10 years behind you as a fan and illustrate the new commitment to winning.  I get it.  Its the same thing the Marlins tried to do except (a) the Dolphins aren't getting a new stadium (but they ARE pushing for major renovations) and (b) the Marlins only used their rebirth as a 1-year facade before going back to their same old bullshit tricks that make them the league's laughing stock.

^ I agree.  I just couldn't put into words what's wrong with it.  It's like a motorcycle helmet made out of foam.  Awful, like all the other recent changes.

I'm glad they didn't get the stadium upgrade.  These idiots would probably have the seats facing the wrong direction.

Apples and oranges comparison.  First off, I don't think everyone hated it.
Based on what I saw on this forum, this Dolphins change has gone off like cupcakes and roses compared to the hate that was spewed at the direction of the Marlins change.

Obviously, this is a Dolphins forum and there will be more talk of Dolphins changes.  But the Dolphins went from aqua/orange/blue to slightly different aqua/slightly different orange/dark aqua and it is as the apocalypse has come.

Can you imagine if this team became the Florida Dolphins and switched to yellow/orange/blue/black?  The forums would have went down from the traffic of furious posts.

If "New Coke" can get canned after that marketing campaign then I'd think anything is pretty much vulnerable.
I took a business course after new coke was out and then we got classic coke back and according to my teacher new coke was a joke. It was done to switch between sugar and that garbage they sweeten sodas with now. They knew if they switched it outright people would have really complained but by doing it the way they did everyone was glad to get their classic coke back. Marketing for you........
PS I like coke over pepsi,

Yeah, that was my understanding, too:  they brought out New Coke, everyone hated it, then they switched to Coke Classic (but with HFCS instead of sugar) and everyone thanked them.

The equivalent would be if the Dolphins had went to something like the Marlins' color scheme, then 3 years later went to what we have now.  All this complaining about shades of aqua would be non-existent.

This is true.  But I'm not equating winning titles to history.  The Marlins M.O. down here is that we win and then we get rid of everyone the next year.  There is no attachment to player history or anything like that.  The Dolphins have guys like Marino, Griese, Zach Thomas, Jason Taylor -- legends to the city.  The Marlins big name is Jeff Conine (not knocking the guy.  I like Conine. It's just that he's no Marino.)

Quote

The Marlins have been successful.  That's what I meant by not a joke.  The Marlins, prior to the rebranding, seemed to be going in the right direction (it didn't work out for them, ultimately) with increased payroll, big name manager, etc.

The Dolphins have been floundering in various forms of P.R. hell for a decade between all the ownership, management, and coaching issues we've had.

And lastly, people just don't care about the Marlins like they do the Dolphins.  We didn't grow up with the Marlins, because they didn't exist yet.  This was solely a football town for most of my adult life.

Maybe my liking it is different because of my age. I'm 24 and have only been a fan since probably 97 maybe a year or two earlier but I don't have much memories of any uniforms other than the 97 ones. The 97 uniforms represent 16 years of failure or  mediocrity at best. How many playoff games have we won in that time? 2? a few more? 11-5 is the best record  I can remember and that happened twice. So I'm happy with a change.

Plus I still think the old logo looked like the sunkist tuna or whatever it is.

I had never heard this so I looked it up. It wasn't a ploy as it was an actual change.  The change in formula had already happened before this switch in most places where it was produced and had nothing to do with the  New Coke concept. Consequently I think the Coke company president said something that is seemingly relevant to this case.

Finally the board of Coca-Cola changed their minds and decided to bring back the old Coke. Company president Donald Keough revealed years later in the 2002 documentary The People vs. Coke that they realized this was the only right thing to do when they visited a small restaurant in Monaco and the owner of the restaurant proudly said that they had "the real thing, it's a real Coke," offering them a bottle of old Coke

"There is a twist to this story which will please every humanist and will probably keep Harvard professors puzzled for years," said Keough at a press conference. "The simple fact is that all the time and money and skill poured into consumer research on the new Coca-Cola could not measure or reveal the deep and abiding emotional attachment to original Coca-Cola felt by so many people."

Lets be realistic, and not argue just to argue.  The intended color is obviously the one in the studio photos.  Not the random media photo under questionable lighting at the draft.

We have been at the "throw whatever we can at the wall" stage for several weeks now.  "The jerseys are blue" is just the latest in a long line of rather silly complaints.

If you simply don't like it, hey, that's your prerogative.  But this kind of "the uniforms are too light now" (when they are significantly darker than the uniforms Miami has worn for the majority of their existence) or "the new logo looks cartoonish and unthreatening" (when it has always been thus) is just reaching.

The picture I just linked was part of an official NFL release.  That doesn't make the colors more accurate.

The reason I linked the Wallace pictures to compare is because I was comparing studio-controlled product pictures to studio-controlled product pictures (i.e. apples to apples).  The colors are the same.

False. (http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/fandom/post/_/id/21223/new-dolphins-vikings-uniforms-leaked)

"A Jacksonville TV station that was taking photos of the new Jaguars uniforms at Nike headquarters in advance of Tuesday's Jags unveiling inadvertently posted a photo that also showed the new Dolphins and Vikings uniforms, plus another shot with a closer look at the new Dolphins design. Both of those teams had been set to unveil their new uniforms on Thursday evening."

TV station taking pictures at uniform unveiling = random media picture of press event

Fine, but "in advance of unveiling...inadvertantly posted" = LEAK.  Big fat leak.  Doesn't matter if its a media member who leaks it.

Title: Re: (Renamed) Official new logo and uniforms
Post by: Spider-Dan on May 08, 2013, 10:39:30 pm
Who's arguing over if it's a "leak"?

The question is whether or not a random media picture of a press event is supposed to be taken as a definitive color guide.  It isn't, namely because such a position would have you believing that the Dolphins' uniforms are now some combination of baby-blue-and-light-peach.

The Fins in ALL WHITE look nice. Classic look. Nothing flashy which is nice. Nothing crazy. A simple look that works really really well. The Penn St comparison is a good one with the look. Sometimes "less is more" which is what Miami has and I like the all white look

At least on tv...

The white of the helmet is more "yellow" than the white of the jersey.  It looks awful.  Also, the aqua numbers don't match the helmet stripe or aqua in the logo.  I wish they could get this color matching stuff in line.  It would look more polished.  I'm sure its because the helmet is high gloss metal flake or something, as opposed to the matte jersey fabric.  It just looks bad.

You are right. Not a good sign when everyone has to defend wearing it.

You'll get the "let them laugh after we win the super bowl" crowd  but in reality I think most people realize it was a mistake. I wonder how much it had to do with Mike Dee leaving seeing as it was his choice?  Look for the Dolphins to do some retro games and then just make the change after a year a few years. They will squeeze what they can out of it first.

We haven't seen the teal pants yet... wonder how they will look?   I can live with the white uni's... the teal shirts I accept, but I think they should have gone more retro or I would have loved to see the dark navy Reebok jersey that I've seen around.

I've see some with orange outline around the numbers that I thought looked very nice.  I also liked the green on green they wore several yrs ago.

Ok, I just got rehash this one more time and then I'm done.

That damn thick stripe down the helmet bugs the living shit out of me and I don't think the teal is consistent between pics I've seen online, in person or on the TV.

Check out the clip from Nike unveiling the MIA uniform with Mike Wallace as the player that talks about the new look:

Here's a pic from the video

See that teal??  That's the color I want.  Not that light teal or whatever it's called out as.  Compare that pic to the new helmet shown below:

Not gonna happen.  They purposely changed the aqua back to the 1970's lighter aqua.  That was one of the most important changes.
