Title: Sun Life loses Super Bowl and national championship bids
Post by: ArtieChokePhin on November 07, 2015, 06:46:23 am
Once again, Ross acted without thinking.  He was in such a rush to get that makeover that he didn't consider the capacity shrinkage.  By lowering the stadium capacity to 65,000, he's gonna lose out of these big events.

Article is a little misleading and takes a "sky is falling" approach. They Lost the SB because the renovation wasn't going to be done in time plus SB 1 was in California and the NFL wanted SB 50 to be in California combine that with a brand new 49ers Stadium and Miami never had a shot. SB 51 was also awarded at the same time as SB 50 and with the uncertainty of the time-table when the Miami renovation was going to be done to play it safe they didn't give it to Miami.  Miami is in line to get one of the next couple super bowls with Minnesota and Atlanta. It's a foregone conclusion it will happen. Miami will get one of the next 2 or 3 Super Bowls handed out.

The college football one he is screwed in some respects because they want huge stadiums to host those.

But Ross really had no option and did what he had to do. He wasn't getting Taxpayer money for a new stadium, he tried for years and lost at every turn. It is too much to ask one man to put up $1 billion of his own money to build a stadium. He put up $400 million to get a new renovated stadium. Short of moving the team to a new city, a city that would have built him a new stadium, he did the only thing he could. Can't rip the guy for what he did. Can't say Ross acted without thinking....that's beyond idiotic.

I'm sure this makeover could've been done without taking out all those seats.

Actually no. Not when adding a roof and having to move the scoreboards

Do you have a method that shows how it could have been done?

There goes the perfect season. Lets see how long Denver hangs around.

I'm happy about the capacity shrinking and doubt that was a driving factor in the decision.  The seats they're removing are garbage upper corner seats, anyway, that never sell out.

Why do you care?  I want the Patriots to represent tha AFC in the Superbowl.   Having a different AFC team play in Foxboro in February would do nothing for me.

It's money for the local economy and helps justify bettering the quality of the stadium....not to mention the extra media attention and football-related events we get from it: concerts, NFL experience, PP&K, etc.

It's just good for the Dolphins if we get Super Bowls in Miami, even though indirectly, since we're too crappy to actually play in one.
