Title: Super Bowl Sunday
Post by: dolphins4life on February 05, 2017, 10:56:17 am
I have not decided yet if I am going to watch the game.

Anyway, I doubt it will be much of a contest.

Then again, Vegas had a prop bet of an over/under of 5 on how many replays of Butler's pick will be shown throughout the game, starting with the pregame show.   I took the over for $50.

Not much of a contest?  Your bias is showing.

I am expecting a good close game that is still in doubt at the 2 minute warning.

I would take the over on that prop I am pretty sure I saw the Tyree catch more than 5 times in SB XLVI.  If Butler gets an interception today, the replays from the Seahawks game could go to double digits.

Not much of a contest?  Your bias is showing.

Watching every nauseating Patriots victory over the years does that to you.

As does reading Patriots posts in my facebook mini-feed about how Brady is the GOAT.

I honestly believe the Patriots would have made the Super Bowl with Jimmy G at quarterback.

Last week I said to a friend I think the Patriots could blow this one out - for some reason I have never trusted the Falcons all year (probably because I never considered Matt Ryan to be an elite quarterback) and I really didn't like a few things that I saw in the win against the Packers.

Rodgers gashed them the majority of the game with slant passes which is Brady's bread and butter. If Green Bay hadn't missed that first field goal on theit first possession and coughed up the ball heading for the end zone on the second it could quite easily been 10-10 instead of 17-0 early on in the game, then who knows what might have happened? (although I admit you could say that about virtually every game, what if?)

I guess it also doesn't help that I haven't seen that much of the Falcons (or Dolphins) all year and too much of the Patriots (yeah, thanks Channel 7 Australia). But from what I have seen, I reckon the Patriots defense that ranked #3 against the run will stuff the Falcons backs like they did Bell in the AFC game & Ajayi in our last duel, and BB will take away their biggest weapon in Jones - that will put more pressure on Ryan to prove the doubters like me wrong on the biggest stage of the year. That said, I hope he does it.

Barracking for the Falcons, but I think the Patriots will win again, maybe a bit closer than what I was thinking last week though.

Love the tribute to the hall of fame veterans from small black colleges - great to see Doug Williams too, although it also hit that 30 years has passed since he was Super Bowl MVP, where did all that time go?

Getting excited now, even before the first coffee of the morning  :D

In my dream world, the Falcons win and Goodell smirks as he hands over the trophy.

In reality this could get out of hand by halftime.

I wouldn't have deferred if I was the Falcons

That said, they held to 3 and out - good start by the Falcons defense

wow, Pats D caught spectating on that first play, great run by Freeman! :)

Have not missed much, apart from that first run by Freeman both offenses look unsettled, defenses on top. Two punts

Upshaw gets Falcons first sack of the game - they needed it, Brady was starting to carve them up, hit 5 from 6.

Huge strip fumble on Blount by the Falcons to stop the Patriots in scoring range.

Julio Jones just came alive now - this is a massive change in momentum after Brady was hitting everything.

Title: Re: Super Bowl Sunday
Post by: Downunder Dolphan on February 05, 2017, 07:20:35 pm
Freeman runs in the score after the Patriots D focus too much on Julio Jones.

Despite Brady seemingly hitting his targets at will the Falcons have managed to get the ball back and the early lead. Their D seems to be gambling and head hunting but getting away with it, that fumble recovery was huge - turnovers win Superbowls.

Choosing to defer to the second half now looks a lot smarter than I gave credit for too.  :-[

Title: Re: Super Bowl Sunday
Post by: Downunder Dolphan on February 05, 2017, 07:30:42 pm
Patriots D looks rattled now, really worried about Jones which is opening up the rest of the field for the Falcons, who are running the ball really well too.

Great passes by Ryan to get the ball down there and score again, their offensive line have done a great job in protection too.

14-0 looking good for the dirty birds (and Goodell) ;D

Atlanta's gambling defense came up big again before the end of half, Brady's first really bad decision resulting in a pick-six!

21-0 that's basically the game done before the half, I can't see New England coming back from this. Those turnovers are killers!

For some reason I always think of Rose Tattoo/Angry Anderson's "Bound for Glory" whenever I hear Gaga's "The Edge of Glory". :-[

I wonder if we could get them to sing it in the Batmobile at the AFL Grand Final as a Duet? It couldn't be as cringeworthy as Meatloaf a few years ago  ;D

Patriots are not out of this yet.

Title: Re: Super Bowl Sunday

Atlanta's offense starts the second half like they were off the field over an hour - remarakble just how little they had of the ball the first half considering they were up 21-3 :o

Huge 3 and out by the Pats to start the second half, followed by a big return by Edelman. Lets see if they make a game of it.

Title: Re: Super Bowl Sunday
Post by: Downunder Dolphan on February 05, 2017, 08:50:55 pm
Patriots are not out of this yet.

Atlanta are in a position now where they could run the ball more through Freeman & Coleman and take away the clock.

Gabriel's quietly having a great game receiving too. One more score will be a nail in the coffin.

Patriots are not out of this yet.

28-3 now, Atlanta can start planning the victory street party.

I can't believe Patriots are still persisting wih the delayed handoff stunt to the RB, it hasn't worked all day and just takes more time off the clock. Josh McDaniels has had a stinker with his play calling.

Really impressed with the Falcon's D speed, and for virtually most of the game they haven't overcommitted like they did (too often) against the Packers.

Still not over yet by any means.

First Pats touchdown took a mere 42 minutes of game time.

lol, missed extra point, didn't recover the onside kick plus a 5 yard penalty. You can tell it's not their day  :P

If that was Brady they would have ruled it wasn't a fumble but an incomplete pass as the arm was going forward. Just ask the Raiders :P ;D

Wow it's like the Falcons want to lose the game

3rd and 1, up by 16, running the ball well all game and they go for the deep pass. Bizarre decision, the turnover gives the Pats a real chance to make a game now.

White's made a huge difference since he's taken over mostly for Blount.

After 51 years will this be the first Superbowl to go to OT?

If the Falcons lose this it will go down as one of the biggest chokes in history. No wonder I don't trust these guys ::)

They twice had the game in their hands and they choked it away.

Ladies and gentlemen, Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons!

They will have to live with the tag of the biggest chokers in the NFL for at least another 12 months.

I wonder if their owner thinks he may have cursed his team coming down from the luxury suite to the sidelines? The moment he did it the Patriots started scoring TDs :P

Say what you want about Robert Kraft.  At least he is an owner that is more interested in winning Super Bowls than hosting one.  I wish Ross was half the owner Kraft was.  If he was, the Dolphins wouldn't be playing 7 home games for the third time next season.

It should have been over - blowing a 28-3 lead with 18 minutes game time to go is unforgivable.

It was a strange game in a lot of ways, despite being up by so much the time of possession was already lopsided to the Patriots and the Falcons D were on the field for two thirds of the game. In that scenario you run the ball, short passes in bounds to chew up the clock and give the guys a break right? No, they set up for the long bomb at key times, Ryan takes too long to get rid of the ball and gets strip-sacked, and later effectively gives up what should have been a game winning field goal with another sack. The D never gets a decent break and wear out. I wonder if the 49ers are quite so confident in Shannahan now? :-\

They legitimately could have knelt down three times and kicked the field goal.

They had that game in the bag.

Two Super Bowls in three years that were literally handed to him by the other team.

I went all Bill Maher most of the game, Just yelling F-U at my t.V., but ended up in the fetal position crying by the end of the game. :D

I actually turned it off at the start of overtime when N.E. won the OT coin flip, it was over the Falcons speed defense was gassed.

Before the sack, it was a 53 yd fg, which isn't a gimmie.  Bryant is very good, so I would take my chances with him, but at least run the football up the middle a couple of times!

Well I'm happy as can be for the Falcons getting sacked out of FG range at the end of the 3r qtr, I won $1400 on that.  Of course none of it could have been possible without the Ghost shanking the extra point off the upright.  The money win really tempered the fact the Patriots won.  This is the 2nd time I have won big money in the SB with the Patriots, the last time was against the Panthers when I won on the FG by Vinatieri with 4 seconds left.

Really?  I could have sworn I heard Joe Buck say it was a 53 yarder from where they were before the sack.  That makes it even worse then!

Edit:  Spider, you were right.  They were on the 22 yard line.  Add 17 yards (10 for the end zone and 7 for the fg kicker to setup) and it would have been a 39 yard FG.

$100/square.  I always seem to win when I have crappy numbers (9-8) in this case.  When I Have good numbers (7's, 0's, etc.) I never seem to even sniff a win.

This Super Bowl could very well blow away all records for most highlight replays.

Pretty much anytime there is a blowout game and TV exes are getting worried people are getting ready to switch off the game we are going to get the following:

[Shot of people leaving stadium.]

Announcer 1:  Folks are leaving in droves.

Announcer 2: Yeah, these are the same folks who turned off their TV during the 3rd Q of SB LI and missed the greatest comeback ever.

[highlites of SB LI]
