Title: Reuben Foster sent home from combine. Good news for Dolphins?
Post by: CF DolFan on March 04, 2017, 07:26:10 am
He got into an apparent heated argument with medical staff and was subsequently sent home. If you know anything about the combine it's definitely to test your mental toughness. I wonder if this could help him fall to the Dolphins ala Laremy Tunsil?

He isn't falling to 22. And Tunsil being great last year hurts Miami now. As another team in front of us will just say, see Tunsil ended up being fine its worth the risk and they will take Foster. Especially a team with 2 first round picks (both in front of ours) like Cleveland and Tenn.

It could result in him falling.  But often when players fall, they fall for a reason.  For every Tunsil there are multiple  Jonny Manzels.

Combine is a job interview, decent chance what ever team drafts him winds up regretting it.

A good way to make a bad first impression to your employers

If he had gotten into a heated argument with coaches or other players, then I'd be 100% in agreement with ya. However, this argument was with the medical staff, which leads me to believe that they told him he couldn't participate, due to some small injury. The fact that he got upset about it could make personnel folks think "Hey, here's a guy who wants to play through the pain..."

I really can't see any way he drops to #22 though, despite my early-early predictions that he'd be wearing a Miami jersey next season.

He won't fall out of the Top 10. In 8 weeks this will all be forgotten

I was originally thinking the same thing but it turns out that wasn't it. He kept trying to cut line on people and then when confronted by medical staff played the "do you know who I am?" card. He felt like he was above everyone else and expected VIP treatment. My understanding is he made quite the scene and never shut up even being escorted out.

I'll still take Foster in a Dolphins uniform next season.  I'm not sure why top prospects end up going to the NFL combine, their draft stock can only go down.  Not to mention most schedule their personal NFL day anyways.  The combine usually only serves to move average guys higher up the charts.

That is 100% false. And if you don't go it looks like you are hiding something and you come off as a prima-donna and a wimp

Not necessarily.   Schools have pro days

Thanks for making my point. So even a bad combine could be made up at a pro day if you shine there.

I will ask, what player has had a huge drop in their draft stock over a bad combine? Nobody can name one because it's just a silly myth

Players are drafted based on a variety of factors.  Film being the most important, a bad combine isn't going to hurt someone, but not showing up, will raise flags as a prima donna.

Film is king but the combine helps explain the film.  Break the 40 record but are a cornerback that is often beat by WR with slower 40 times indicates you have great athletism but poor technique.  A wide receiver with a slow 40 time but was always open indicates great technique and an ability to compensate for the speed.

Nobody's draft spot is based on one data point.  Not going to the combine won't cause a top talent to go undrafted but, not going will lower the assessment of the player particularly if there are other red flags that he is me first and not a team player.

Well I read a draft preview yesterday that had him going two picks after the Dolphins pick. (I think it was YardBarker, sorry can't remember for sure).  Of course this particular draft had the Dolphins taking a TE, which they would be crazy to do with their first pick.  But still, no where near the top 10 for Foster.

People but way too much relevance in these mock drafts.  It is just the opinion of someone who owns a website.  There are 32 people whose opinion matters and the don't publish mock drafts.

I haven't seen a "mock draft" by someone reputable that has him falling past 15. And even that is a stretch really

32 teams but many more people.

On most teams one person makes the final decision the others just offer suggestions.

So you're saying more than 32 people's opinions matter then.  >:D

It just came out that he failed a drug test at the combine.  His stock may drop after all.

He should fall.  But do you want him?  What he did at the combine was stupid but in the grand things not a super big deal.  But knowing he is getting a second chance he goes ahead and screws up again...then makes up bullshit excuse.

If he is draft high it will reinforce the idea he can get away with anything and will probably get himself suspended in short order.

OTOH if he falls to late 2nd or 3rd round and is drafted by a team with a no nonsense coach he might straighten out in which the team gets a great deal.

I think your timeline is a little whonky... His urinalysis actually came "before" the argument with the medical professional, though it wasn't reported until afterwards, once the sample had been analyzed.

I would take Reuben Foster at #22 in a fucking heartbeat. He's Von Miller without the chicken fetish. He has Patrick Willis "pro bowl every year" potential, and that's something that's worth overlooking a little pot smoking to get.

I approve this message.  Miami would steal him at #22

Michigan Saftey Jabrill Peppers Failed his drug test Diluted sample, came out a while ago. There are a few guy's I'd like to have at 22 Rueben Foster,Haason Reddick,David Njoku,Jarrod Davis...and perhaps Jabril Peppers. The diluted test, failed drug tests don't bother me as much as in the past.Guns,Violence, getting arrested type things do bother me.

Yeah, baby...Miami needs a LB and a Strong Safety. How about a sliding Reuben Foster in round 1, and a sliding Jabrill Peppers in round two? Does Miami have enough positive football karma built up for that kind of situation? ;D

The thing about Foster that concerns me is that he may need a second operation on his shoulder.  When you add injury to the other issues around him it may be best to draft a player with fewer question marks.

Apparently Peppers didn't play in his bowl game and didn't tell the team day of is also causing teams to lose interest.  He legit could fall into the 2nd round.

Hamstring was initially reported.  Stories coming out it was bullshit.

Let's be fair, this link says nothing about the hamstring injury being bullshit. It just says teams are holding the decision against him.

Honestly, this time of year listening to team executives and how they talk about players is almost as bad as listening to the guy at a car auction telling you what a hunk of junk one particular car is. When the bidding starts you always see their hand going in the air.
