Title: Lonzo Ball's brother arrested in China
Post by: BuccaneerBrad on November 09, 2017, 11:07:05 pm
Him and two UCLA teammates got busted for giving themselves a five finger discount at a Louis Vutton store.  Now they may remain in China for months.  How stupid can you be??

I get being immature and doing dumb things. I don't ever get doing that in foreign countries.

This is the first time Lavar has managed to keep his big mouth shut, at least for the most part.

This is the first evidence I've seen that Papa Ball has an ounce of common sense in his head... Hopefully this means that someone with some knowledge of international relations got to Lavar and told him "This is not a media opportunity, and those are not celebrities on the other side to play with. It's the fucking Chinese government, and any word you say about them that isn't 100% polite and respectful will be paid for, in full, by your son."

Depending on the value of the sunglasses stolen it could be either a fine, or a couple years in jail.

The value of the sunglasses is irrelevant.  The punishment will be whatever the Chinese govt feels gives them the best diplomatic leverage.

Looks like Trump got them released. Lucky dudes!

I wonder what the author of the art of the deal gave the Chinese in exchange.

The author of that book wasn't involved in this situation... ;)

Yes.  They could go with the high values on the sunglasses to bump it up to the more severe penalty if they want.

I’m sure it’s a lot less than what Obama gave up for Bowe Bergdahl or what he gave Iran.

I would hope that some idiots caught shoplifting in a repressive country would be way cheaper than captured soldiers in a war zone. And even then the soldiers would be more worth it.

According to reports, that's exactly what happened.

Yeah, that wasn't really a difficult "between the lines" read. ;D

Calling him a traitor is an exaggeration of the situation. There is zero evidence that he ever intended to aid the enemy.  He is far from innocent but he did not commit treason.

A soldier in enemy hands facing mortal danger is worth saving with more resources and urgency than a couple of idiots facing a few months in prison for stupidity .. yes .. easily.  Those who willingly place themselves in danger and choose to serve in a volunteer military deserve nothing less. Maybe you've let the right wing russian news circus rot your brain a little if you don't see that.

"Traitor"?  I don't remember Bergdahl being charged with treason, much less convicted of it.  I guess the recent chants I've been hearing about "Innocent until proven guilty!" only apply to child molesting Senate candidates.

In any case, we should all be happy any time our government is able to retrieve an American citizen from a foreign entity with ill intent.  I would much rather see Bergdahl and Ball stand trial in America for any crime they may have committed.

I'd be interested in hearing what China's "ill intent" was...

FIFY

China does not take shoplifting lightly and they certainly don't place an emphasis on due process.

LaVar Ball withdrew his son (LiAngelo) from UCLA, I guess he didn't like his son being on indefinite suspension.  In other news the LA Lakers have implemented a policy to ban media members from interviewing guests or family members after games.  I wonder if LaVar will have Lonzo quit playing for the Lakers?

Favorite comment under that article... "Looks like UCLA grew a spine...and lost their Balls."
